Something interesting about this episode is that the characters are specifically told to not touch the purple stuff, just like the workers of Super Porp were told not to drink Pure Porp, and i really doubt that's a coincidence I fully believe Pure Porp is taken directly from that dimension, and it's processed to be consumable and addicting, but also maybe that's the reason why they chose babies to replace Cheryl, they already have no identity or memories so there's no chance of them remembering anything when they're forced to drink Pure Porp

It's interesting to look at the grotto counterparts of characters, Princess Bubblegum is a pond and if you remember PB's reason for making the Candy Kingdom "to be connected to others" this makes a lot of sense as a pond is not just it's own ecosystem but an important water source for many creatures, Marceline is a flower who sings sad songs about herself but she's actually pretty happy with herself which makes sense as the STAKES! miniseries was in season 7 and Beyond The Grotto is season 8, Ice King's counterpart is Princess Purple Patch who instead of suffering from a loss of memory and identity herself she instead inflicts it upon others but she still struggles with similar problems the Ice King has like their loneliness

This led me to think of the purple comet. No one truly knows what it symbolizes, but purple seems to be EGO DEATH and RETURNING TO THE BASEST FORM. That's what the comet wanted to do, that's what lumpy space princess did in the elemental episode, and that's what the purple stuff did here.

Something i really wanted to mention is that the animation style in the strange world is made by Small-Butera, who made an incredible animated youtube series Baman and Piderman in the same style. If you love surrealist settings, I really recommend it. It has a very similar mood to the strange world sequence. I feel like calling upon these specific animators here is quite significant, given this is what they're known for.

The porcelain doll one (4,10), the mountain (6,28), king worm (4,18), and thanks for the crabapples Giuseppe (6,13) are also insane i reccomend to watch while tripping if u haven’t. Also, if ur looking for another show with crazy tripping vibes watch season 1 of SpongeBob, probably one of the best days of my entire life was binging that entire season off of a slice of shrooms. Brought me right back into my childhood and you realize how clever and funny the show rlly is, plus you get to look at the incredibly painted and drawn artwork that is only prominent in season 1, thank me later 😉

I noticed Princess Purple Patch has a little purple blob creature with her. Makes me wonder, is the purple blob sort of like her version of "Gunther"? Or did she get purpled by the creature first and it made her into Princess Purple Patch, in a similar vein to how the crown turned Simon into the Ice King. I MEAN tbf that was the tragedy of the situation, how roselinen only asked finn not to forget her and her family once he left and then he did. it adds more credence to the idea finn was just dreaming, but given it was knife storming again and what we know abt wormholes in this world, it's still ambiguous just what he experienced (golb appearing kinda adds to the mystery too)... also if finn didn't forget the pillow fort thing we'd have to deal w/ our teenage protag being mentally an old man / basically a different character lol

That's the horror of the episode. The fact that all of us will live entire lives, only to forget them as we pass on and age. Not to mention it's an interesting examination of Finn's character at the time, as he was especially vulnerable/flawed during his S5 relationship with FP. Could not be further from being a pointless episode

When I was a little kid watching adventure time I didn’t understand the meaning of most of the episodes and the characters emotion. Now that I’m older I’m finding so many things that I missed that I understand now. In a way Adventure Time is an adult show because of the deep and complex emotion and character development each of the characters have.

Im not sure if anyone has pointed this out. But the entire episode is also a reference to Wizard of Oz. When Jake gets back to real world and tells Ice King and BMO that this Purple world had strange silly versions of them. This mirros Dorthy waking up back in Kansas. And she tells her family and farm hands that a version of them existed in OZ. Like the Scarecrow and Tin man, and you were there and you etc. Alice doesnt have any real life counterparts that appear in Wonderland. Also Alice is just exploring a dreamland. But Dorthy lands and crushes a Witch. She immediately is put on a Hero's Journey. Just like Fin and Jake try and help Treetrunks and the Lard. But in the end its not about these people saving OZ or Purple land. Its just the journey of these characters making it back home.

The entirety of Lumpy Space is based on themes in purple. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that purple is Adventure Time's quantum realm. Anytime you see purple, it's got some sort of significance: Super Porp with their "weird, ancient ways", Lumpy Space being the substructure of reality's elemental matrix, and this weird realm where everything is just sort of...wonky. The "purple stuff" seems to reset everything to it's simplest form which is why F&J forgot who they were ego-wise but remembered their basic elemental make-up of helping peeps.

I came to term that all the weird episodes of Adventure Time are what makes its beauty. It can be hated by some fans, but it is what Adventure Time is about. Not judging weird stuff but rather try to understand it because it can lead to breakthrough. Although, sometimes weird stuff are just weird, but you gotta be watchful when something goes from weird to toxic (AKA Finn's Dad) Also, sometimes in seemingly uninteresting episodes, plotpoints were developped.

Like between 2011 and the pandemic "purps" which were always sold in purple capsules were a popular party drug in Northern Ireland and around uk festival scene. Nobody knew what they were exactly aside from the people selling them but they were a mild hallucinogen with effects like taking a low dose of magic mushrooms (but without the upset stomach that can come with doing shrooms). I don't know if Adventure Time writers knew this, but it was a pretty funny coincidence for those of us in the know.

Maybe next time you can discuss why the Elements are what they are if you haven’t already I mean Fire and Ice make sense, they’re two complete opposites and you can often find them just about everywhere naturally around the world But why Candy and Slime? Presumably they are also opposites, but even so why those things specifically? Slime is completely natural and found in many places, but aside from the individual ingredients that make Candy, like sugar, Candy is completely artificial We see in the Elemental specials that Elements also translate to emotions. I’ve to Sadness, Fire to Madness, Candy to Bliss, and Slime to Envy Is that how they’re opposites? Perhaps since most people hate the taste and texture of slime but love at least some form of candy, that’s what makes them opposites in a sense. Candy makes people happy and Slime as an Element wishes that’s what it did, when in reality it just makes people feel gross
