time to start putting some money in savings, i HAVE to get into this; the armor, the comradery, the violence, what more could a guy ask for

@@augistry5439 yea its tough during the first stage when you want to create your own armor kit but keep on running into historical inaccuracies. First I'd probably just research the different styles of armor throughout the periods so you get a general idea of what goes with which. I wish I could help you out more, but I am mostly familiar with the 14, 15, and 16th centuries. I would personally try to avoid the 12th century for this sport because knights wore mostly all chainmail during that period. The same applies to the 13th, but at least they had some partial plate. Running into a buhurt without the proper protection would be dangerous and chances are they won't allow you to play. If you want a website with good quality buhurt armor, I'd look at Medieval Extreme And just look for what you like there. Then investigate what region the armor you like is from.

@@fallencrusader2975 yeah i really appreciate it, currently im looking at some 15th century plate armor, just really like that classic knight look, been looking around on Buhurttech and age of craft, probably go with an italian Sallet helmet and build around it
@fallencrusader29753 жыл бұрын
@@augistry5439 I have found a solution to your problem: While I was pondering at work I came to the conclusion that you should get some early 14th century armor. You should try to get a Pembridge great helm to wear over a plain open-faced bascinet. Then wear a white brigandine with a red cross. By doing this you may have the proper protection required for buhurts all the while being historically accurate and retaining that "classic" knight look.

Salt lake city crusaders Help I want to do Buhurt but I don't want to buy Buhurt traditional Armor because to Honor my Faith I specifically want to compete as a Templar knight like the people in the video, I've already started buying armor, riveted chainmail, Gambeson but I bought specifically the Thorininstrument Templar armor which got bad reviews from some people and I'm afraid I won't be allowed to participate in the upcoming Pennsic war because of it, qs professional crusaders and Buhurt fighters can you tell me if this specific set of 18 G plate armor will be allowed to compete with a full set of Gambeson and riveted mail underneath?

Great question. I'd recommend hitting up the acw Facebook page and seeing who is the closest to you and then meeting up with local fighters in person a few times to see how things are done. You can then start advertising in your area and doing meet ups at a halfway local with your closest team and get things rolling

The armor is cool, but the concept of this sport seems really weird to me. First you have armor and judge like it, meaning you dont count sword hits on plate and so on, but then you don't seem to use/count bypassing attacks like stabs into creases and armpits, instead judging by who goes down first(?). But you cant use historically effective blunt force weapons, because you dont actually want to kill each other. So you're stuck with relatively ineficcient weapons in terms of blunt force, not counting bypassing attacks with those weapons at all, instead hitting and punching each other in the head, eventually delivering a ton of blunt force anyways. Revolving around one way to defeat armor, but not using the right weapons for it, while still trying to deliver blunt force to the point of collapse. Maybe im missing some rules, but it seems so disconnected from history. Like you spend a ton of money and effort on really cool historically accurate armor, and then you end up looking like some hooligans just beating the shit out of each other. Im not saying its not hard, or that no skill is involved, it just seems like such a waste. Also, if football players suffer long term damage from repeated concussions, then i don't know what you're getting. Sorry for being a downer, but i just dont get it.

there are dueling matches where there is a point system for hits landed, falls, etc,. the main point of the sport is safety and while injuries do happen the safety regulations are very strict when it comes to armor and weapons, the hits definitely hurt but most of the time wont do any damage, and unlike football helmets these have a lot of padding inside to help absorb the hits, the bigger battles are mostly for fun and for the crowd, if you fall youre dead, but there is honestly a lot of teamwork and strategy for the larger battles, and inefficient? the polearms can knock you out if they hit you just right and they hurt like hell, there are events held all over the world and the sport actually dates back to the 9th century where knights would come together to train with one another for a crowd, i get your point but theres really a lot of depth to it and the adrenaline rush is like no other, plus its pretty bad ass like medieval MMA

People keep assuming that in history people always wanted to kill each other. You realize there was plenty of blunt weapon, no-stabbing practice too? Part of this sport is training up endurance and focus while wearing heavy, encumbersome armor. In history, Buhurt was, as it is now, a sport, and not combat training. It was a game with its own rules. In short, this sport IS historically accurate to Buhurt, even if it isn't accurate for actual combat. The term "Armored Combat" is just used to help laymans get the point. My suggestion: try it yourself. There is a LOT more nuance than you may expect. Exactly, I think it's strange how Poleaxes for example don't seem to be allowed, when the entire point of this appears to be to deal as much blunt force trauma to the opponent's head as possible.
