I also own the explorer ST. You just need better winter /all season tires. The OEM tires are not meant for snow.

there's videos on KZbin with ST explorers on winter tires, they still suck in the snow. we have a 24 explorer in the family and frankly our old 03 explorer was much better in the snow.

Like everybody else pointed out already, tires matter the most. But those robotic clutch controlled AWD system is useless by spinning and losing grip on the front first before engaging the back and losing grip and spinning all 4 tires until the snow surface become a perfect slick ice. This is why Subaru and Audi constant AWD grip are doing so well in those conditions.

How can anyone expect to get anywhere with road tires. I have this same explorer and I switch to TOYO Open Country AT III tires in winter and it tears right through deep snow. The mileage suffers so i switch each season between road tires and AT's.

We have the ST and an F-150. The ST is better in the snow since it turns all 4 tires where the F150 with can only turn 3 wheels with the lockers. We had the same tires on both. Please don't tell me those are factory tires... Those are performance highway tires.

The Explorer ST, with the tires they come with aren't meant for snow I think. My Limited handled deep snow better then my ST now. Even my past Sport was ok in the snow, not as bad as my ST.

Your Allwheel drive /4x4 is only as good as your tires. With them being prob stock all season tires are not good for snow. If you had some M&S on her with some bite she probably would have had a better chance... but I like the try... some good old fun putting the toys to the test. Real world testing. LOL ....
