5 Star tuned 2018 F150 shortbed XL 3.5 track hound. Low 11's and on its 20th pass, scattered the crank after ingesting the turbos. Not 5 🌟's fault, Ford fault for a bad turbo bearing and me beating the snoteroonies out of it. 13,500 miles. Cost me $ 12,000 to repair as it took out the radiator and all the AC components as well. My neighbors 1975 D150 with a Supercharged Junkyard 5.7 has a seasons full of loudpeddle debauchery and still spec's out within 3% of factory. Mind you, we picked up the motor for $2500 with trans and $5k for the Supercharger. Gotta pay to play !

When running boost on an engine it is bound to break. Upgrading hardware will give you longevity and better performance. This is a cheap way out of upgrading your vehicle. The 6.4 in the durango if rebuilt on the bottom end will give endless miles. Also what about the drive lines with the tunes?!?! If you drive it like it should be driven it will wear down. This tune just decreases that time.

Deere Gear of Northeast GA Incorrect. There's not an agency in the USA that "tunes" their patrol vehicles in 2019. Warranty and longevity of all engine-related components (drivetrain, differentials, & axles included) are the main goals of every agency when it comes to money spent on patrol units. Any custom tuning would also present a blatant liability issue for any occurence that could be even remotely attributed to any vehicle performance modifications beyond the mods of retrofitted emergency equipment (and there are already very specific guidelines & requirements for aftermarket equipment installations).

I like the ease of tuning of a turbo engine (+100hp in Stage 1 for less than $600? Hell yeah!) but a NA V8 is always a better choice when longevity comes in the mix. Also, don't be fooled by the smaller turbocharged engines here, as many of them are constantly kept in the boost to get the cars moving. Which means they end up consuming roughly the same amount of fuel as their larger NA comparables, not to mention the greater wear coming from the extensive boost time!

I am a Ford guy and in the case of these 2 competitors Imagine a explorer with a 7.3 Godzilla Ford engine. I think you already know the outcome as the 7.3 explorer would dominate the outcome. The Ford products after 150000 miles also remain rattle free In the interior of the vehicle and the engines are still performing As they did when new. The Ford will not be using oil to speak of either. T Chrysler product however will have numerous rattles in the interior and be using a much larger amount of oil than the ford. And we have not mentioned overall fuel consumption or MPG as the Ford will be the most economical to operate between the two competing brands. Yeah the obvious choice here would be to get ahold of a hellcat swapped Durango- forced induction vs. forced induction-- BUT that's a little overboard considering the SC 6.2 isn't offered in any Durango trim from the factory, while Ford offers the twin-turbo V6 from factory. I guess we will have to settle for an Explorer ST vs. Jeep Trackhawk comparo if we are ever to see Ford vs. Mopar forced-induction SUV's. I get some may gripe about the 6 vs. 8 angle, but honestly when you're dealing with forced induction- the amount of cylinders starts to matter much less- boost is a really great equalizer in the "no replacement for displacement" argument.

💯 The SRT 392 naturally aspirated V8 is not going to see anywhere near the power and torque gains with just a high octane fuel tune as a forced induction application such as the twin turbo V6 in the Explorer. Although I do feel that the SRT would see enough of a gain with a high octane ethanol tune to give the tuned Explorer a lot closer of a race for sure. Come on guys let's compare apples to apples here.. Tuned Explorer vs. Tuned SRT and stock Explorer vs. stock SRT..

Having been in both vehicles. I would purchase the Explorer ST hands down. If I wanted to go faster, add a tune and beat the Durango and save the extra money for the overpriced Durango. If you want performance. Purchase a 2022 rear wheel driving skipping the AWD which reduces some weight and adds better launches at the dragstrip. Frankly. I believe most buy these for family haulers and towing. If you want to go drag racing. Buy the Dodge sedan. Now show me these two SUV on the track.

The price on the window and the price they actually sell for are worlds apart. As the Explorer is new, I'm sure most will sell for close to MSRP for a little while. Dodge on the other hand still has new 2018 and 2019 Durango SRTs sitting on dealer lots that can be had for $10k+ off MSRP easily as the 2020 models are now arriving. With the money saved, throw a TVS2650 on the Durango and ask for a rematch.

How would the 5-star compare on a pump gas tune?

Yes, agreed. Apples to apples would have been nice.

Not to mention their DSRT way under performed from the average DSRT.

No kidding. I love how nonchalant they are about mixing to e50 like it's no big deal. It makes a huge difference, especially with a boosted car. Not to mention e85 isn't available everywhere. Dead middle of the Rocky Mountains here and no e85 pumps within 75 miles of me. Still enjoyed the video tho.

Jaylovescars my thoughts exactly I was waiting for them to just skip over the fact they run e85 I’ve seen people with boosted cars just do an e85 time and pick up 40whp easy, it makes a huge difference

93-Octane and E85 is pump gas. Nothing exotic about it.

I’m a Jeep Chrysler Dodge guy but I’m slowly being sold to FORD EXPLORER ST. Price is right. Third row seating. 400hp stock and can get a $600 tune that gets me 100 more HP. Yeah, fck it, I’m sold!!
