I was lucky enough to see BLIND MELON and many other acts at WOODSTOCK 1994. Shannon Hoon came out dressed in a white dress, and most likely was tripping on LSD during the show. That weekend was the 2nd best concert I had been to behind Plant and Page in 1997. Half of the grunge movement was just a return to classic style rock and roll of the 70s. With that came the singer songwriters, and the hippies. Bell Bottoms were popular 1993-94

Ah, I remember this one. It’s a good, slightly trippy, mellow rock track. That’s why I bought a download of it years ago. I’d say it’s true that the band had a hippie vibe and style going on. And for someone who used to do the punk thing and then also Goth, I’ve actually known quite a few hippie girls. ☮️ Rest In Peace to Shannon Hoon, like too many he was gone too soon. It has to be so hard on the bands they leave behind.. and then even harder for their family and friends. If I recall correctly Shannon did some work in music prior to Blind Melon- singing backing vocals on “Don’t Cry” by Guns N’ Roses. (Think he’s also briefly in the video.) And he might’ve been friends with Layne Staley of Alice In Chains. There’s a very goofy photo of them together from wherever they happened to be.

Blind Melon released their debut album in 1992 and it didn't sell until the single 'No rain' became a hit on MTV and radio in 1993 and the album sold 4x platinum in the US. However, Shannon Hoon (vocals) of Blind Melon came to fame by singing on the Guns N' Roses ballad "Don't cry" in 1991 and appeared in the music video... Shannon Hoon was originally from Indiana, same as W. Axl Rose, singer of Guns N' Roses. When Blind Melon formed in L.A. in 1990, they were signed quickly and recorded their self-titled debut album in North Carolina... They didn't want to be an L.A. 'hair band'... and found themselves at the height of 90's alternative rock scene. Along w/ Hoon on vocals, Blind Melon was - Roger Steven (guitar) and Brad Smith (bass) from Mississippi... and Christopher Thorn (guitar) and Glen Graham (drums)... The 'Bee girl' on the album cover was Glen Graham's sister; they used a different 'Bee girl' for the 'No rain' music video. Unfortunately, drug use was frequent in Blind Melon and Shannon Hoon was abusing he+++n... it was apparent that he needed rehab by 1994 but could not stay clean and got into trouble on the road. In 1995, Blind Melon recorded their 2nd album 'Soup'... and filmed a music video for the single 'Galaxie'... Shannon Hoon was high on drugs and freaked out band members during filming by banging his head on the car on set, breaking the glass... 'Soup' was a commercial disappointment even as the Blind Melon toured in 1995. Tragically, Shannon Hoon was found dead of an apparent OD on tour in New Orleans at age 28... He left behind a baby daughter Nico w/ his girlfriend. Blind Melon disbanded soon after and named their 3rd release 'Nico' in memory of Shannon Hoon. Years later, Blind Melon reformed w/ a new singer but the appeal was not the same.

@jayboz0345 күн бұрын
Its a video though. Shannon was quickly killing himself through severe drug abuse and so wasn't as easy going and happy as he played. Everyone in the band struggled in their own way, because they're real, not ever happy, earthy, tea-drinking, mythical hippies. That field was an escape, not reality. But, the positive takeaway is that most of us do long to be like this, and to be with people who are happy and free. So embrace them when you find them and smile and dance under the sun, but also embrace the times when the dark clouds circle and the rain pours down when you're all alone. If you can do both, that's where you'll live the most and find the most joy. Embrace reality, not the field. And we should give the jerks a second chance. Those are usually the people who are lost and need some understanding... and even a hug. Many jerks are good people playing a dark character. Help them, don't discard them. It makes the world a better place for us all.

For some reason Blind Melon reminded me of The Red Hot Chili Peppers. But this BM song is much more upbeat than say, RHCP's "Scar Tissue", "Soul to Squeeze", or even "Californication". Maybe it was just their 90's alt-rock vibe. But I always enjoyed their video. The only other time I've seen a person dressed in a Bee costume was in Nelly Furtado's 2003 video, "Powerless (Say What You Want)". Death by O.D. is a common occurrence in the rock world. So much so that a 1994 book was published about it called "Death By Rock & Roll: The Untimely Deaths of The Legends of Rock" by Gary J. Katz.

Here are some other songs that I like which AREN'T reacted to as much (as opposed to the ones that are always reacted to): Burning Down the House - Talking Heads Semi Charmed Life - Third Eye Blind Back to Good - Matchbox Twenty You Know I'm No Good - Amy Winehouse Lover You Should've Come Over - Jeff Buckley Hook - Blues Traveler Crazy - Gnarls Barkley The Freshmen - The Verve Pipe Mr. Jones - Counting Crows Radar Love - Golden Earring 1979 - Smashing Pumpkins Complicated - Avril Lavigne There's obv lots of great songs that ARE reacted to alot - but I figure ppl will request those already.

I started in June but have posted sporadically. I like this song now, too. It's out of this planet. Thank you for these songs. ✨️🐝

I normally prefer heavy, brutally fast bands. That aside, I can respect and appreciate Blind Melon for some advanced music with unique acoustic and electric fusion of instruments topped with some soaring singing. 🤘

I feel that they have a unique sound that anyone can appreciate. ✨️

@AmarissNevae when you return to some metal, you have to check out all four of the big 4, Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, and Anthrax. I would say the big 6 would also include Testament and Exodus.🤘🤘

I don’t think it feels like an uplifting mood song as you said. Kind of the opposite actually.

There was something about the music that uplifted me. ✨️

I've always felt it has a cheerry sound as well evn though the message is gloomy, but probably intentionally designed to be that way. which as i explain that here now, i realize i just read a comment likening them (though maybe just THIS song, idk 🤷🏻♀️) to Red Hot Chili Peppers (RHCP), which i initially read & just unconsciously dismissed 💁🏻♀️ until I was about to offer an example of another such song to further illustrate this (a cheery sound / gloomy message). that example being "Under the Bridge", which IS A RHCP SONG! ....so they may have something there 🤷🏻♀️ lol.

@@deadassdgaf100 Exactly. The lyrics are somewhat blue. However, it seems like a hopeful song. At least it does to me. ✨️

BTW. The singer was Axl Roses half brother from Guns and Roses.

I have yet to hear Axl, but I am sure I will.✨️

Not all hippies were peaceful earth loving people. The 1969 mass murders of pregnant Sharon Tate and Leno LaBianca and 3 others were committed by the notorious commune living hippie, Charles Manson and his followers. The shocking murderers kind of destroyed the appeal of the hippie movement, though the movement did attempt to carry on a bit in the1970's until Disco and Punk Rock took over, and hippies realized that they had to grow up and get a real job which many did. Even Paul McCartney temporarily embraced the hippie culture by having his Post-Beatles family live on a muddy farm in Scotland and tour the countryside in a converted Bus for College gigs. (This was around 1970 to 1975). But hippie culture despite its lofty peaceful ideals is simply not a financially sustainable culture. Someone has to be the one to pay the bills (legally).

"Grow up and get a real job." 😂😂 Surely, there was a soaring command for growing top-notch organic sunflower seeds. Perhaps these people you wrote of, Charles Manson and his followers, may have taken a bit too much of the recommended dosage 😳. ✨️🌻✌️✨️

@@AmarissNevae😆 You have quite the wit & idiosyncratic style... Perchance, do you see writing a novel or short-story collection in your future?

@@AmarissNevaeHaha, yes! Don't forget the fedora! Seriously, I am enjoying your written comments at least as much as the videos & that's alot. I'm sure your imagination is overflowing with ideas. Also, would you consider doing the occasional movie reaction at some point?

Yes! 👩💻That sounds fun and amazing. If I ever do partake in movie reactions, I'll be sure to update everyone on this channel. ✨️🎬✨️
