Luv your reaction & I very much agree. I've got to tell you about a magical experience I had one night in the early 70's listening to a radio interview of Ann & Nancy at one of their homes by a personal friend who did his radio show there that night. I couldn't sleep, it was around 2am & I was living in a four-plex with a bunch of hippies. I took my radio to the only empty room in the place & tuned in to it in progress. It was a really laid back friendly conversation about their musical lives. They were sitting at the fireplace & at one point they picked up a couple of acoustics & whipped out a totally impromptu & astonishing version of Dear Prudence by The Beatles. OMG, it was so killer. It was sweet perfection. I recorded it on my cassette radio, but ignorantly didn't copy it before wearing it out after 100 or so playbacks... Wish TG there was a recording of it somewhere so I could listen again. So beautiful.
@AmarissNevae18 сағат бұрын
That does indeed sound like a magical experience. I can envision it now. It would have been neat to have that tape still. Perhaps someone out there recorded it simultaneously. Could it possibly be online.... I have not heard this song they covered, but I'm sure it was a beautiful rendition. Nancy and Ann really are magical forces. Thanks for sharing. There wasn't any Auto-tune only because this was still all analog equipment back then. I don't believe you understand what Auto-tune actually does. It's not something new. They've been pitch shifting vocals since the 30's. Auto-tune is just a digital pitch shifter. There are some analog signals (the human voice) that can not be digitally reproduced. Auto-tune is used (when used appropriately) is to smooth those transitions in the digital process. Eliminating such peaks in a digital format. There are those that do not use it as intended but they aren't creating superstars with Auto-tune. No machine will do that. Unless it's Alvin and the Chipmunks. Which is created by a pitch shifter, not unlike Auto-tune, only analog. You still have to have the talent to sing, even after they shift your voice. You first need the signals to work with or it still sounds like crap.
@AmarissNevae23 сағат бұрын
Ahhh, this is very interesting to learn this. Thanks for sharing. ✨️✨️
@SmokeyTreats19 сағат бұрын
@@bettyrose959 I get what you're saying but I thought Alvin and the Chipmunks was just normally played/recorded then speeded up to 78 speed & recorded again. So playing it back on 33 speed made it sound normal.
@bettyrose95918 сағат бұрын
@@SmokeyTreats Depends on when it was recorded. Alvin was part of a commercial (which is where Pitch shifters are mainly used. Radio and cartoons) It was such a local success they started recording various jingles. Early recordings are done with a pitch shifter. You see, if you just speed it up you wouldn't understand the words being sung. Specially in a digital format. Over the years other effects became possible. Adding in digital made it smaller and more portable. Old pitch shifters were a large unit, delicate and not very portable and would mainly be used in a studio until around the late 70's if I remember right. But Auto-tune will never make a super star out of crap. Crap goes in, crap is coming out. If you use an Auto-tune to correct it, it will sound mechanical, like the chipmunks. You can tell it's a machine and not a persons voice. You're ears are trained on this. The difference in Analog and digital. You actually can tell by ear when you hear it. It doesn't sound right to your ear, it's altered.

Now that neither Marco nor Tarja are with the band, they have begun singing this song again. Nightwish now performs this rarely, but they did do it at the Viggo Dome in Amsterdam with Floor Jansen (third singer) and Henk Poort (actual stage singer in the Netherlands in the musical, where he portrays the Phantom). Tarja was going to leave NW, and had a falling out. The band fired her. after this show. The fallout was huge. The firing wasn't the big deal, the method was the big deal. They decided to publish the letter they handed her when fired and it basically humiliated her. The fighting was making them all a little short tempered. NW made an album with a song aimed at her, a song aimed at her husband, and an overall mood that was kind of dark. The song aimed at her husband was sung by Marco. She's forgiven him now. The song was never sung live. Floor Jansen and Tarja are both friends.
@AmarissNevaeКүн бұрын
Ahhh, I see how that could be humiliating. I'm glad she was able to handle it with grace. I am glad that she has forgiven him. That is quite wild, though. I am surprised to hear about all of this. It's so dramatic. I am happy that they are friends. They have put their egos aside and see things in a positive light. Thanks!! ✨️🌌

Hi! I got this as a recommendation and you seem like such a nice person I thought I would contribute a few comments. First, I saw their live shows back in the 70's a number of times, and this is one of those frustrating situations where the "official" or "recommended" or "everyone else reacts to this one!" choice of videos drives me nuts, as it is nowhere as near as good as the 1974 version. Besides the fact that Farner had significantly perfected his live show by that time (developing the famous "bunny hop" you will see in the 1974 video), the video I am thinking of (along with most of the others of that period -- see, e.g. the famous 1971 Shea Stadium concert) he never wears a shirt. He fixed on a style with armbands, but no shirt, for his shows. But it means the '74 version doesn't get the same recommendations because he doesn't have a shirt on. So depending on your sensitivities and "18+" and Parental Guidance., etc., if that doesn't offend you, then go with the 1974 version. (I can't drop the link, even in the "reply" section, or KZbin will delete my entire comment as a serial violator), but the title is "Inside Looking Out, live at Los Angeles, June 1974". (This is correct as the video TITLE. Unfortunately there is a quirk in it in that it was apparently actually FILMED in San Diego, not L.A. But the titles of the correct video will say "L.A".). If you got the right one he has no shirt on and silver satin pants. Second, as you are just getting started on your music reaction journey, I have to recommend you check out Nightwish, specifically with their current lead singer, Floor Jansen. Their most viewed song, "Ghost Love Score, live at Wacken, Germany, 2013", has been tracked on KZbin as the most reacted to of all music videos on the web. I believe it is something over 1,500 reaction videos. But all their Wacken videos are well up there. See also "Ever Dream", "Storytime", and "Romanticide". Their videos also tend to bring in big numbers of views, so much so that critics sometimes accuse reviewers of using their videos just to boost their subscriber numbers. As a fan personally I really don't care that much, as long as the reviewer is giving an honest reaction to the song! So I subscribed and good luck with your channel!
@AmarissNevaeКүн бұрын
Thank you for this information. The silver pants sound stylish. I look forward to watching/hearing that version. I'm not easily offended. I understand the links in the comments. I've had comments with links attached disappear weeks later, which is strange. I have reacted to "Phantom of the Opera" with Tarja, and some people were arguing in the comments 😳. I had to even delete a few 😆 because of how harsh they were to each other. I was a bit concerned about doing "Ghost Love Score." I shall, though. Thanks!!! ✨️✨️

I heard Queensryche in my teen years, thanx to a good buddy. My younger self thought some of their songs rocked pretty good. Now that I’m older, I can focus on other aspects of their music, such as Geoff Tate’s excellent singing. He’s said to have undergone vocal training by the same instructor who later coached Layne Staley of Alice In Chains. Of course, he’s also very naturally talented in the vocal realm. And I can now pay attention to their songwriting. Speaking of which, you mentioned dreams. Their song “Silent Lucidity” is all about lucid dreaming, something I’ve actually experienced. It’s tremendously well-written, and possibly the greatest power ballad of all time.
