The Great African Rift has been continuing to spread for over a million years. Anyone that contends that a small event such as this would need to take centuries does not understand plate tectonics at all. Eventually, the entire eastern portion of Africa will split from the rest of the continent and a new ocean will occur. Some of which will be swift and highly catastrophic.

There's a new ocean developing min my own immediate land-based area. It's right on a busy street, which the city won't fix, and it keeps sinking into water. It's a paved road, and they have put a patch on it which lasted all of 2-3 days, but now is worse than ever. There's some sort of water leak going on down there, and it's been there for months. Little did we know how new oceans could be started by our drinking water.

Why the disguise. Hard to replicate perfect mouth movements. Why, the voice is so Iconic. At the right frequency engaging different parts of your mind to hold your attention. The Earth is expanding. The only way to keep a static sized Earth is to form new a subduction zone for every new rift. There's no recycling of seafloor.
