The biggest issues that will cause problems for an invading army outside of the United States military itself would be the 17 million veterans scattered through the country and the tens of millions more Americans who take their second amendment rights very seriously. Even the largest standing army in the world (China) only has about 2 million soldiers. If even 10 percent of the veteran and armed citizens decide to involve themselves in a fight that is a huge problem.

The running joke here in VA is that the entire state is just one large military base. We have multiple Navy, Army, Marine, and Air Force installations along with multiple National Guard, Air guard, and Reservists posts. We have a HUGE concentration of fighting age veterans, and over 20 militias. In short, Virginia has the firepower and can easily help our states to both the North and South due to our central location on the coast. The suck end of that is we are also a primary Nuclear target. Norfolk NAS, Little Creek, Fort Lee, Quantico, the DC area are all strategic strike locations.

As a South Carolinian, I am willing to bet we would be pretty safe. After all, we were the first state the leave the Union and we were the first to fire. Not our proudest moment, but the fighting spirit is ever present here. Add subtropical climate of swamps in the low country and mountains in the upstate and high gun ownership. If North Carolina and South Carolina allied, which would be guaranteed (see hurricane Helene) the two states have the rural land and infrastructure to be self sufficient.

If you look at the way Russia and China do logistics they'd have one hell of a time moving material that far. Russia still does logistics the way they did in WW2. Much is still loaded by hand whereas the U.S has everything palletized and easily moved in large quantities with equipment.

USA is one interesting country. Tons of military vehicle / ship production on the East, which get sent over to the West to free up room. Training is done on both sides. Stockpiles and counter bases and equip manufacture all over the middle. Canada and 'Mexico' both allies. World would have to come together to take the USA, and USA too beneficial to too many counties for that to happen atm. After all, we are the reserve currency, if USA falls, so does the dollar, and what a mess that would be.

Also the US has; a lot of different Law Enforcement Agencies. That is Federal, State, County and Cities. For the Feds, there is Homeland Security, FBI, US Marshals, DEA, ATF, CBP and many more. Texas has the Texas Rangers, some states have equivalent, plus the Game Wardens and many more. For the Counties/Cities there are Sheriffs, Constables and Police, some with an elite strike force. Another thing that is important for war, is cyber power, communication, intel and information there are so many agencies, that can help in that area. If its a country that attacked the US. The US and its allies are already strategically placed where they could also attack that country.

We’re set for an invasion right now… military is 1/3 the power it was before 9/11… someone leaked the specs on our ships… China and Russia destroyers now have double the missile capability… they outnumber us 10 to 1 in personnel, ships, tanks, missiles… they have 22 ships in Alaska and we have only 4 to respond… our ships are getting towed back to port after 10 days out to sea… Russia has 54 ice breakers and we only have 2… which gives them the advantage in winter… they can easily take down Alaska and control the oil… boosting their gdp and providing the fuel to launch an invasion on CONUS… Alaska is almost as large as the lower 48… that’s more than a 5% military foothold… that’s almost 40%… we only need 5% to control an entire country… they would start 48%… and half of the oil in our country…

If you could take the entire US military and task them with invading and conquering the US as if they were a foreign power, I don't think they could pull it off. They could take major cities and destroy roads, bridges, airports, but the problem would come from trying to hold the country relative to just capturing areas. The level of gun ownership here is astronomical and not just pistols but lots of ARs. Also, people know how to use guns and know how and where to snipe. Subduing a nation of gunowners who would be willing to fight would be impossible.
