27 years ago I had 96mb in my 060 A1200. It was a ridiculous amount. I thought I'd never need any more RAM ever again.

Hehe... I had the Blizzard 1260 + SCSI-IV controller that came with an extra ram slot... so... one ram slot on the accelerator board and one on the SCSI-IV extension board... I maxed those two out with 128MB each, so a total of 256MB ram... I never used ALL of it, but... some of my Octamed Soundstudio stuff could easily reach over 100MB of fast ram usage because of all the 16-bit samples I used... :)

PAR = Personal Animation Recorder, made by the awesome company DPS. It mimicked the way we used to lay CGI off to tape with a frame accurate video deck and controller back in the Stone Ages. When a frame was done rendering, it would fire up the tape deck, tell it to move the tape to the exact frame after the last one you recorded, “stamp” the new frame onto the tape, and go back to sleep. The PAR did the same thing, but with a hard drive. This was back in the days when you measured rendering speed in minutes or hours per frame. VTRs that could do that were so freaking expensive. (This is also why you would render animations interlaced.)

In Europe we had V-Lab Motion from Macrosystem (German company) that also came with an NLE software called MovieShop. Combined with the 16-bit Toccata Soundboard it was pretty much a fully fledged NLE with pro sound. Oh and they also built an adapter board to directly talk to a VideoToaster as well.

I have always left case tops and sides loose. I still do, even on peecees. I was amazed when I dug my 3000 out after it had been shoved in a corner on its side for 20 some years. I expected it to be a basket case, but it looks absolutely pristine! I need to test the power supply and hopefully it still works or is fixable without too much trouble. I dumped its original Quantum LPS105 SCSI drive to a CF card via a WarpEngine on one of my 4000s and it still has no errors! I love the 3000s, it was my first powerful Amiga when it was new and a joy to use.

My Amiga3000 has 16 Megs of 32Bit RAM, I also use my hard disk for swapping (I straight forward forgot the name of the program...) and while working with some graphics software I actually once hit the 1GByte limit creeping in some parts of AmigaOS. Just to put that into perspective, a €10 Pi Zero comes with 512MByte of memory, or in other news, a 4GByte memory stick is around €10 nowadays - I once paid €800 (in nowadays money) for a single 16MByte Stick. Also interesting, my 17 years (!!!) old Xeon workstation recently got upgraded to 128GByte of memory as I got 8x16GByte FB-DIMMs for free. Boy, the RAM alone consumes 160 Watt of power... but we needed it actually as we were preparing a picture with 300MPixels for printing. And even with 128GByte the system often swapped badly...

It is NOT a ridiculous amount of RAM. infact its NOT enough if you are using something like SCALA. I had 128mb RAM in my CD32 (YES my CD32) using the SX32 Pro 68030 @ 50 Mhz as a VJ at a night club.. how I desired to have more RAM because I Preloaded Animations in SCALA and Filled up 128mb.
