MAP is fairly common across industries and tends to be more common with higher end brands or product lines on the premise it keeps from diluting the brand. If you are looking at an item online and it says you need to add the item to your cart to see the price it is usually because of MAP rules. I play boutique basses and guitars where the manufacturer uses MAP pricing with dealers. Likewise several components in my home theatre system have the same constraints. I think it is inconvenient but I understand the manufacturer's rationale even if I don't agree with it.

With the advent of the Internet I have found price negotiations to be much less stressful. When we have decided what we want to buy be it an RV, car or truck I email the dealer telling them we are ready to buy and I want their best out the door price. I don't hide that I am shopping multiple dealers. I also make it clear don't like wasting their or my time so they get one chance at getting me their best price. My experience has been the dealers that honestly want to make the sale and tend to be more forthright will do this. The dealers that quote you a price then add on charges when you show up at the door tend to not send a quote and try to get you to show up in person. I can only go from publicly available information but from what I can see I've generally gotten better than the average discounts by doing this. I will note that I do not always buy the lowest price RV. As you mention distance is one thing I take into consideration but another even more important thing to me is the dealer reputation. I rather have a good dealer where I know they will stand up for me on warranty issues and not impound my trailer for months waiting for service even if it costs me a few hundred dollars more.

Great video Josh, There are dealers that sell high and low volume and there's dealers that sell low with high volume. One of my rv purchase resulting in me traveling 1000 miles to save $4000. I camped on the way home. The 2nd thing to shop for is who you want to do your warranty and upgrade work. It may not be the dealer down the strip from your house. I try several dealers in a 200 mile radius and whom ever is the best is the one I will use.

Love your videos and the info you provide in a fun format, and my wife insists that when we are ready to purchase an RV it will be from a Bish’s location. However, the problem with any website where they want to email you the ‘best price’ is that it never stops with just that one email. It puts you on a mailing list and next thing you know your mailbox is filed with daily emails from places you may have asked a single question one year ago and now you have 365 marketing emails. And it seems no mater how many times you hit ‘unsubscribe’ the emails keep coming….

Good info. Problem is the added prep fees, doc fees, etc…. I’ve seen one dealer in the Southwest advertise a low price but then try to add on 3900 prep fee on a 29k unit. I hoping for sales this fall on 24 units.

I truly admire Bish’s for their operating philosophies. I haven’t purchased yet but I’ve had my eye on NIRVC Lewisville, TX, as my home dealership for a while. Thanks entirely to your channel, Josh, I located a Bish’s dealership a couple of hours from there a while back. Both are 5+ hours from where I live just south of Houston. I have dealerships in Houston, certainly, but none that I trust. I’ve not gone to one where I didn’t encounter a salesman less knowledgeable than I am and somewhat condescending at best. Three admitted to having sold cars most of their careers. Two didn’t know what cargo carrying capacity even was. I’m 71 and have never owned an RV and that was just sad to encounter. Bottom line, folks really want a different kind of relationship with their dealership team and some of us hope we might find that at Bish’s. So thank you. And Josh, the glasses? 😅

If you fet bank approved or have cash in hand, take a hard stance on a number you're good with and stick to it. Never pay what they are asking. They'll give, some camper salesman are scummier than a used car guy so don't be afraid of them.

Being a newbie to the RV buying process, I was shocked to see that the "get real" price on new trailers runs 75% new model down to 61% last years model from the MSRP. It seems that you miss out on potential sales by having the asking price many thousands more than the customers think they could afford. To me, the inflated pricing has the appearance of trying to pull a fast one on the customer if they are not savvy enough to know otherwise, and not a good start for establishing a trusting relationship.

Hey Josh. A big problem is if I travel six hours to buy from you and have problems, no one here in St Louis will work on it. My brother bought a used Jayco fifth wheel locally. It need work. He called a very popular Jayco dealer here in St Louis. They refused to work on it even though it was originally purchased there.

Some brands such as Grand Design allow owners to use a mobile tech for warranty work and repairs. In the case of GD you have to pay the service call fee yourself but all repair parts and labor are covered under the warranty.

I'll make it easy. Start by multiplying the MSRP by .72 [ .72 not 72 ] to get the dealer invoice. Start your offer lower than that because there may be manufacturer incentives.

That’s not how invoice works. It’s not a static product of MSRP or vice versa. It’s borderline arbitrary at this point I’ve seen cases where MSRP was over double of invoice and cases where it was only about 10% more and everything between

That's why we auto-publish the information on screen as well but I get what you're saying. For most places it's purely a tool to generate contacts And certainly a member of our team may reach out But we do make sure you have any available discounted pricing in front of you before that happens

Doesn’t always work out that way! I had found a deal on the model I wanted. My local dealer was higher and would have to order it in. I made the deal over the phone/ emails and was excited about getting my new trailer. Drove 3 hours to get there to have the manager come up with cocking bull excuses about my trade and pushed the price of their trailer up to my local dealers price. I know I should have walked, but after a 3 hour drive in the heat of summer, not to mention they had already started switching the hitch equipment over before paperwork was done! I was angry, annoyed, frustrated, and over heated myself and just wanted to get out of there!!! An exciting day went south in a hurry!! Oh and on top of that, they tried ripping off and did to an extent, the person who bought my trade!!! I became friends with them through FB and found out that they too got the run around!! Lessons learned!!🥴🙁

It's best if you can sell your trailer on your own through something like Facebook Marketplace rather than traded in. Then you know exactly what you're dealing with and you can get more for it selling it on your own

@@sssophiesmom if you don’t mind the hassle of selling yourself. This is my 5th trailer, traded each time. The one I traded in on this one was actually bought from another dealer who took the one I had sight unseen with previous roof damage and delam. They gave me a great offer, didn’t change when they saw the rv. I was honest with both dealers, but the last one turned out to be crooks, not just to me but to the person who bought my trade. I believe it depends on the dealers and how they treat you. This one was no friend of mine!!!

People are always asking for prices on units regardless of who is doing the review . Just give them the MSRP with the specs on the unit and if they don't know how that works and the percent say 20 - 30 as an example , bless them and move on . PS still hate units with slides . 😁
