3:26 The English trailer has finally come out, but since I know Japanese I still wanted to say here that your first guess is correct, it is striking twice at 50% damage! Thank you for analyzing this trailer, there were quite a few things that I missed (and also thanks for mentioning the twitter clip and screenshots, didn't know those came out)! I love how all the Emblems' abilities are references to their games and they all look so much fun to use, I'm even more excited for Engage thanks to this trailer!

You forgot to mention that when Alear is engaged with byleth you can also see the hero relic Varja-Mushti in her inventory, so I don’t think it‘ll stay with the original 3 house leaders relics only

Honestly, the WAY more colorful and cartoony look is kinda growing on me... Looking at the rest of the cast so far, Alear looks downright normal now! And as long as the gameplay is fun, character design kinda fades into the background for me... All i wanna know is who and what my units can attack during combat, and will doing so get me killed in response?! Awakening looks freaking dreadful, with it's brown in brown colors, characters with no feet, and armor that would make it impossible to see or move, but the gameplay is still really good, so i barely notice any of it while i'm playing...

it looks like each of the 4 kingdoms represent a season with some characters even taking inspiration off of holidays. there some red and orange colored dressed character that seem to represent fall however there some black dressed characters that are taking a lot of influence from Halloween. the melanin rich characters seem to come from a kingdom based on summer. the frou frou dressed characters we meet from the first kingdom seem heavily inspired by spring. the only thing we havent seen is winter HOWEVER the red head guy is first seen in a snowy landscape as per the trailer we've seen. so red dressed characters might be winter (odd) and the black dressed characters might be fall (which you could say is why they are dressed very "halloweeny"

Because it is not blue, it isn't handed out by Byleth. He DOES give Vajra-Mushti, though! Either Alear's promotion gives them Brawling Proficiency or being engaged with Byleth grants it.

The thing about these trailers too is that they more or less reveal the naming schemes of each country's units: Elusia are plants, Broodia are gemstones, and Solm is Italian pastries/desserts. Firene's is a little boring since the only commonality is that they are all french names.

Engage story trailer: i sleep Engage mechanics trailers: im hyped than ever! seriously tho, so many callback to past series even to Lyn mirage / GBA crit animation (sorta), the fact each emblem brings their own unique flavor of mechanics, not to mention they bring several weapons (not just one!) to unlock from the get go when doing Engaged without waiting for DLC is very awesome stuff. i notice that possibly different class type will result in different weapon when engaged too. this is going to be an FE with most polished gameplay and robust mechanics for mainline i think, and hopefully equally fun too!

Overall this looks good. Unfortunately I just can't seem to get on board with the new characters and there designs. A few are okay, but most just put me off the game.

I'm the same, the character designs just seem so over the top. Alear's design to me just screams "My first fantasy character" and some of the others do too. But outside the bizarre character designs and the whole idea of the engage fusion thing, I think there will still be an enjoyable turn-based strategy game here. I've been thinking that probably the best way to approach this game is just take it as it is, expect some goofiness and don't think too much as it plays out. I'm still not 100% sure if I'll get this yet (I might do but maybe not on release day) kinda just waiting to see if they'll show off anything else that'll either get me like "OK this looks like fun" or "Nah I'll give this a miss".

Personally, I always use the jp VAs but ESPECIALLY here cause I would rather slam my pingus in a car door repeatedly than hear "EmBLeM eNgAgE!!!!!!" During a climactic fight or dramatic moment. Fuck man it's cringe

I agree that line is cringe, but switching to JP voice-over won't stop you from hearing it, because they say the same thing, only with Japanese pronunciation.

@@kylominogo I may agree with you, if not for the fact that these games always have characters with the most ear piercing female VA's possible. Elise is way better in English. If you want an even worse example of annoying JP VA's, look no further than Persona 4.

The more character designs I see of this game, the more I hate them. I still intend to buy and play the game, and the actual gameplay and animations look fire, but... I am genuinely concerned to have a cast of characters whose designs invoke such disgust in me. They are all absolutely AWFUL.
