rdr2 is set in 1899 with the epilogue set in 1907. rdr 1 is set later in 1911 which takes place 12 years after the main story of rdr2 and 4 years after the epilogue. the rdr2 epilogue is set literally the year before this car came out which even when this car was out cars were not at all widespread and still quite rare.

Horses are faster sort of since it takes a long while like a really long while for a Ford Model T to accelerate to 45 mph and that is only in downhill realistically. Ford model T's usually average 25-40 mph on a flat road while with the bumpy terrain basically everywhere before 1920s the model T will struggle alot unlike horses. And with John's hate towards automobiles was probably because they were very difficult to use without prior explanation, they need gasoline which was at the time quite difficult to obtain and in the west the model T often overheated due to the simple thermosyphon cooling. The Model T could run on other fuel than gas but Gas was kind of the best thing since it was one of the cheapest or the cheapest and it would run better.
