Acc to PSA rules ref should not have looked at video replay to change her initial ruling. Refs can only grant or request reviews on let calls.

It's often difficult for the referees to see the lines from their position well behind the court. It's about time they use replays to check line calls in the same way they do for other reviews.

Hammamy KNEW her shot was out but tried anyway to overrule the ref on a technicality. The elegant sportsmanship of Egyptian squash is in jeopardy with the ascent of Gohar, Marwan, Asal, & Hania.

Amazing performance. The quality of women's squash is just so good at the moment. Don't want to take anything away from it, but curious about that last decision. I thought referees often would say that they aren't allowed to check that type of decision.

Agreed. It appeared to be more of a common sense decision by the ref than a response to an appeal from Sobhy. They played the replay and the ref could see it was clearly out, so took that evidence into account. Not sure if that's a change in policy by the PSA or just a one-off by the ref.

Refs aren’t permitted to grant or request reviews on balls that are in/out. PSA needs to adopt line technology like tennis to correct. There’s more than enough for a ref to do with lets, appeals, rules & conduct.

I don't think it's the same one. Sabrina uses the Sonic Core Revelation Pro LITE and Farag uses the regular SONIC CORE REVELATION PRO. They both look kinda orange but the LITE is brighter. Don't get Farag's racquet if you're an amateur. It's very head heavy and even some advanced players would struggle with it. The LITE will be easier to maneuver.

I get it's a ferocious sport, your emotions are ramped up. I've been angry many times on court, but this game was insanely high quality by both players, Hania seems extremely bitter. Sobhy checked she was ok after her taxi and she just blanked her, then at the end zero respect after "swearing" it was in... I'll always point to Farag as the best example of class. Think some of these players should take a few lessons from him. Glad Hania suffered this upset, incredible squash from both of the sisters recently

Yeah I used to think that all her unpleasant interactions with Gohar were more Gohar's fault, but now I wonder whether maybe it is more Hammamy.

1) She may not have heard Sobhy. Crowd was loud. 2) She may have said thanks before turning around. 3) May have responded afterwards when they were doing the replay. As for the ending, perhaps she genuinely thought it was in? Perhaps she was just a bit surprised given the decision was overruled which doesn't usually happen in such instances. I hardly watch every game but she always seems to have a good attitude.

@@simonpatterson793 Don't get me wrong, she is no Asal. But she just has an air of arrogance, like losing to Sobhy is almost beneath her. All her screaming to the heavens after every point as well, it's so weird. And again, I know she's a pro, whatever she needs to do to get ramped up, but in my 10 years of playing County squash I have never had someone scream after every point or the kind of animosity some of the players have. Seems to be some weird thing some pros have started doing. Respect at the end should be the underpin of any sport, especially in a game where there was nothing but high quality squash and no sour incidents to speak of. It's clear from the rankings how much Egypt dominate this sport, this win is absolutely huge for Sobhy. I just think if this was someone like Farag losing to an underdog, he would be way more respectful. It's great for the sport to have the other regions doing well

I don't think I watch enough squash to argue against you further - and I can also see a lot of other people share your opinion :). Asal is young too - so hopefully things can improve. I have had some incidents in county squash ;) but they may not be representative. Have a nice day

Sabrina, this proves that you can be above Hammamy or Gohar any day. Saw your match at Netsuite and comparing to this, a day and night difference. Just believe in yourself and sky is the limit
