she dresses the way she does because she is comfortable in who she is and believes that the approval of anyone else should not justify her choice in clothing- but her own approval should. and she isn't telling anyone how to dress but telling them not to dress for others to approve of you but that your own approval is the most important.

Cherry Popsicle Oh my you are so right. My country, which probably more than 60 percent are muslim, mostly found islam as label. Even I find it so hard to practice my religion, like, no dating before marriage (which also preventing sexual contact). Sometimes I feel like why I live in muslim country but find it so hard to apply just even one rule? Prophet Mohammed S.A.W ever told us that muslim will grown so much, but the religion practice will be corrupted. The people will show no respect. And this issues will become a weapon to fitnah islam… (just like comments above yours)

Cherry Popsicle and yeah forcing in islam do not go one in hand. Even my friend, who is born as a muslim, view islam as a forcing religion. I asked him didn't he knew that the rule in quran can be interpreted in many ways, and I show him that islam gives freedom, liberty, etc in which, he just understand.

Girl, I think she was basically pointing out how our society tends to degrade women and many women grow complacent. Even those that might say they are feminist, tend to adhere within the norms dressing /fitting in. So those that don't end up being scrutinized , or made to feel unattractive
@DanLetts977 жыл бұрын
kulamchanga ain't. It's a bit ironic though isn't it? She only dresses against the norms here in America. In a Muslim country there is nothing different about her at all, in fact she would be dressing to the norms and fitting in quite nicely.

@AmalLivedHere9 жыл бұрын
Kathryne Strohs If you listened to the poem, you would have noticed the message is to the Media, and to the women who maintain this distorted reality of beauty. "Don't differentiate your choice to be naked with my right to be covered" is what the aim is here. Besides, when I was 11 years I used to slice my wrists and make myself throw-up because the picture perfect media mentality (which undeniably exists) made me feet fat and ugly. It happens to millions of young girls around the world and the fat-shaming and ugly-shaming and get-a-beach-bod expectation is what roots those suicidal insecurities. So, try the poem again with that view. Pretend she isn't wearing the scarf, and maybe you'll agree.

+Amal Kassir Allah be with you sister. May your hijab be the sails that winds envy and your voice silence the howls of the wolves. @kathrynestrohs43089 жыл бұрын
I 100% percent support any woman's choice to cover up or wear as little as she wants or anything in between. I do not maintain a distorted view of beauty or at least try my hardest not to. I agree with a lot of the points in the poem just not the implication that I'm oblivious to the society we live in because I dress a certain way.
@codectified8 жыл бұрын
incorrect. especially if what you are wearing has been prescribed for you by industries, comprised of mostly men. this is the spirit of hijab, to undermine any framework of fashion or conduct which is not divinely inspired.

Wonderful indictment of the commodification of women and how women buy into being reduced to sex objects. Covering oneself up from head to toe in order to shroud one's sexuality or not "inflame the desire of men" is also an oppression, however, which reduces women to nothing but bodies objectified by men as well. The answer, I believe, is in finding the middle ground-one’s own comfortable, unique style, not prettifying or plainifying for approval-and dressing for oneself rather than others.
@DanLetts977 жыл бұрын
rousingtherabble there is a middle ground, it's called letting women wear whatever the fuck they want because they're in a free country and they're free to wear whatever the fuck they want. If a woman wants to show a little bit of cleavage then so be it, it's when dip shits start judging that you have a problem.

you have no idea why she covers herself from head to toe. the middle ground? is not judging people for how they choose to dress or present themselves and creating a space where women can be sexual and feminine if they so choose but also a world where that isn't necessary to get by.
@gbaili12 жыл бұрын
Listen to her words not the way she dress. Did you even think about what she said?!
@abbynever49928 жыл бұрын
It doesn't seem like "show her skin" is seen as a valid choice for a woman to make (for herself) in this poem. Who says we dress to appease men? Who says that doing with our bodies whatever we see fit (hoping that it doesn't harm us or other people) is wrong or a sign of ignorance? Sexual assault is not from some misinterpretation of our clothes because clothing never spoke for us before. Feminism or what is just for a woman is not simply what you think is right. I am not saying that covering up is hating yourself or oppressive, and I am not say that little to no clothes is oppressive either. Why does she, or anyone else have to?
@redqueen31827 жыл бұрын
addy shell when a guy sees a girl with a dress smaller than her under wear, he will get a boner, its hormones, and when the guy is crazy enough and the circumstances are viable he will not hesitate to rape her. Tell me how do you expect to walk into a landmine and get out unscathed? Tell me again that your dress doesn't harm you, i dare you. It is the way the world looks at you, and therefore it has every way of harming you and degrading you
@abbynever49927 жыл бұрын
This beyond ignorant. You just justified rape. What is wrong with you?! Did you know that females have hormones too? Did you know they can commit such acts,but they don't -at least not as much as men- because we all are capable of terrible things, we all have hormones and sex drives, but that doesn't mean we act on them. Treating other people the way you wish to be treated isn't TOO MUCH TO ASK. NOT RAPING PEOPLE ISN'T HARD! The saying is "actions speak louder than words". I don't see clothing mentioned in that at all. I don't see clothing justifying murder, or any other kinds of assault, so why do you? A five your old knows that just because you feel compelled to do something, doesn't mean its always the right thing to do or that its okay to do it.It is honestly scary that you don't realize that.
@abbynever49927 жыл бұрын
maybe we should fix the way the world looks at us then. BECAUSE IT IS A DRESS AFTER ALL, and I'm a person. The inanimate object never spoke for me. I think it's terrible the way people treat people-hate people over so much, but I have to say that CLOTHING has got to be one of the worse reasons to. If she wants to cover up that is her choice! Shes beautiful just like that, but if she want's to show more then that is also her choice! She can be beautiful just like that! Another way to play into the hands of this oppressive society is to try to undermine another persons value purely based off of their appearance, and that includes telling them they have to cover up more. In a skirt, or pants, or whatever they are still people with worth!
@redqueen31827 жыл бұрын
i wasn't justifying rape, I WAS giving the scientic explanation as to what happens in a guys body for him to even think of rape
@redqueen31827 жыл бұрын
after all, rape includes hormones and a guys hormones are very different than a girls , and yes, they can be triggered by even the sight of skin, so a dress is an important thing to look over
@GirlInLoveForEver112 жыл бұрын
the thing is, i can walk around half-naked and still maintain my dignity. i'm glad she's happy the way she is but she's still vilifying women and that's not ok.
@dystopicstate11 жыл бұрын
I love this sister and I love that she feels so strongly about her convictions. But with all due respect I have to disagree with her premise.While hijab may protect you on some level from sexual objectification, it is still objectifying because it puts a woman in a position to be judged only in relation to her value to men. It’s the classic madonna/whore dichotomy.A truly liberating perspective is one absent of patriarchal ideals in which both women and men would be judged on their merits alone.
@shaheenaliraqi59711 жыл бұрын
Can you tell us what Mohammed thought of women,didn't said that they are brainless, unfaithful, they are like donkey, dog,...etc How many women you thing he had relationship with not to mention the six year old Aisha. You wearing the hijab does not make any better that those you called naked because your heart is naked and theirs is not.
@shaheenaliraqi59710 жыл бұрын
Amal, Can you tell me who is Mohammed's father? Just a trying to learn.
@codectified8 жыл бұрын
I think if you were really trying to learn you would find a better place than youtube comments. What does "your heart is naked" mean? She is wearing clothing which is prescribed to her by her lord, whereas most women wear what the television tells them to wear. This is clear enough regardless of what you want to believe.
@imeneyahiaoui60557 жыл бұрын
he's fathers name was abd-allah and he died befor the prophets birth , well and he didnt say that women are " brainless, unfaithful, they are like donkey, dog,...etc " he actualy said that the best of men are the nicest to their wifes , and for aisha i said it many times humans at that time werent like they are know it happened 1400 years ago and he married her when she was 9 and at that time a 9 years old girl looked like a the 18 years old women of this time , and mohammad is not the only person who did it even christian girls got married at a young age at that time it was acceptable back then but now its not and they didnt force her she wanted to marry him , however i do agree with you when you said that a hijabi girl doesnt always mean that shes a good girl but wearing modest is still a good thing , well any girl should wear whatever she want

how can you talk about feminism and women's liberation and wear a hijab, symbol of submission to men, and to a political and religious order? pretty weird...
@redqueen31827 жыл бұрын
alabamajoejackjim hijab is an empowerment of women against men. It is a cloth that hides women from the greedy eyes of men, don't say Im being too poetic bcz have you seen guys? Yeah, they mastrubate to girls, naked girls, your normal western girls who have no shame. So this is an empowerment of women , so that when he talks to her he sees only her face, her eyes, to actually listen to her. I think you need to look up the meaning of Islam and Hijab again dear
