Those fiery red ants remind me of the ones at the mango tree in my elementary school. They're absolutely huge and the moment you get bitten by one, even if it just pierced your skin, expect the sting for about a whole hour. If it gets to bite you for a few seconds, you'll likely bleed a little, and you'll go home at night and you'll still feel that diabolical sting.

The rattan fruit is actually pretty good but it's extremely sour even when ripe

I didn't either! But now I know why I see rattan weavers bite their shaved sticks when i was a little kid. I thought they were just doing it for some reason related to weaving or drying, apparently it's edible.

Rattan is edible you can put it in curry, or fry it with ebi, or just burn it.

Locals told me to try these alive. You're suppose to bite the head first before eating which I didn't do in the beginning.

Don't they excrete formic acid, though? Is that alright?

I think Gordon did try ant larvae before in India, the one they used to make chutney.

why does he act surprised to eat ants? he had them in India and other places and he liked them.
@sparklepawz1185

Because he didn't want to be rude. Imagine planning a trip for a celebrity chef like Gordon and think "oh this will be a fun thing for him to try, I doubt he's had much insects" and then when you take him he goes "oh yea I've had them back in India." It's like undermining the host of a party by saying "oh yea, John's got the same stereo system it's pretty good." Also he's on tv. He's probably going to act that way so people who haven't seen him explore the world before can get a reaction from him that they haven't seen. Or he's genuinely curious and excited to see how different cultures take things like ants and eats them.

He's surprised they're used as a seasoning, not that they're being consumed.

In nature, food is scarce. The people born to dine at KFC and Burger King never understand that idea.

@@vctrsone I agree. When I say people I meant average Americans. Gordon Ramsay showed to us, foods do not come to our table easy. For those who think food should come to them for free, shame on them.
