Dealerships across the US are struggling right now. Ford, Nissan, Stellantis, Jeep, Ram Dodge, Chrysler and even Toyota are starting to collapse. Dealers cannot keep up with the record high lot times for their inventories. Many vehicles are rotting on lots at 350-600 days UNSOLD. The second and third order effects of this are extremely detrimental to a dealership's bottom line. Flooring costs are hugely expensive for auto dealers.
In this video I talk through GM's upswing in sales and stock... and explain why Ford and Toyota are failing to keep up. What is it GM/Chevy are doing that Ford, Nissan, Toyota and Stellantis aren't? Stick with me as I talk through it all in this video. How long until we see a wave of dealership bankruptcies in the US?
Thanks for taking the time to watch, I sincerely appreciate the support. If you enjoyed this video and would like to see more, please consider Liking and Subscribing, your support doesn't go unnoticed. Thank you!

and of cause who should pay for the missing emission standards - come to germany and watch the picture of bavarian forrests with needle trees that had 0 needles anymore . That has been in the 1980s due to CO2, bad air pollution - as far as your eyes could look a scenery of WW1: trees without needles , all dead. You want that back in the USA ? What else do you want back , no medicine against cancer, the spanish flu and what not ? ICE is dead at least in europe and the manufacturers do know that here and are moving ahead, they do not hire ice engineers anymore, the suppliers are reducing production volumes big time. Each month further and our CO2 prices are increasing the gas bill cause each year the prices are increasing. Put 40 cent per year on top of the gallon price or 2 $ in 5 years you will learn to compare prices and decide far more economical than today. USA was the market leader with Tesla for so many years - and now it is BYD from China, missed opportunity I would say.

Yep, they announced the base model at just under $20K, dealers hit people for another $10K, then Ford made the $10K official. So now you have a $20K truck pushing $35K+. Shortly after they were released I saw a used Bronco on a lot in VA with an $18K dealer markup, bringing the total to $60K for a year-old mid-range Bronco 2-door with 33K miles. Since that day, our 2017 Explorer had a cylinder failure at 60K miles and the new Broncos have been a train wreck for reliability. My lifted 1997 Jeep Wrangler TJ 4.0L (225K) has had less mechanical issues than our last two Fords. How is that even possible?

Little known fact. Toyota is the only automaker that still uses distributors in the United States. You may know them as Southeast Toyota or Gulf States Distributors. They are a middle man that has the monopoly on Toyota vehicles in their markets. These middle men distributors notoriously add markups to every single Toyota sold in their markets. On Camrys or Corollas this is usually 1500 dollars and anywhere from 3000 to over 10k on Tundras and more expensive models. These distributors add cheap, unneeded products like safes, protection packages, dash cameras, trailer towing balls, and other low value items that are then marked up exponentially. An example is a dash cam with a value of 75 dollars for 500-600 dollars. Toyota allows these middle men to exist because of a loophole in their contracts that basically allows these distributors to exist unchecked with no clauses for expiration. In distributors markets, a 60k dollar Tundra is marked up by a distributor an average of 5-6k dollars. It astounds me that this has been legally allowed to happen for 70 plus years without any government intervention.

Dealerships refuse to work on vehicles after 100k miles . Only reason i can think of is they want to sell not extend the life of their products. The problem is as the computers get more complicated and the manufacturers charge small shops a fortune for diagnostic software it's a planned obsolescence by attrition.

It’s a shame what has happened over the decades. Brands used to - at the least - *appear* to want to build a loyal customer base. My aunt went from a Ford Tempo, to a Taurus, and then a Lincoln Town Car. She has had that Lincoln for at least 15 years and she loves it. It’s been very reliable and her husband has had his Ranger for over 25 years. Now, everything seems disposable and it’s a shame. These executives are greedier than ever; higher costs, lower quality, and a nearly-abandoned car market. They’re insane if they think this will be sustainable. Everything doesn’t have to be “premium” for crying out loud! Reverse-engineer a 1995 Toyota Camry and stop trying to sell us this unreliable garbage! I hope we get some people in power to put the brakes on this push for EVs. Every vehicle CAN NOT and WILL NOT be electric. People are sick of all of these agendas that keep being pushed (mainly from the left). The real problem is the overly complicated build of cars and trucks. EXAMPLE: Electric brake calipers, electric steering, direct injection engines, cylinder deactivation technology, unnecessary 8-9-10 speed transmissions. Everything electronically married from the build date. You can't purchase a plain car anymore, the base model of a car line is already over the top with "standard features" driving the price up. As for hiking up tariffs, if the company has already invested in outsourcing. They will not bring the manufacturing back on a large scale to make a difference. The additional tariff cost will inevitably be passed back onto the consumer.

The dealers should realize that right now, fuel is cheap. If a potential customer is considering buying a new vehicle, you are not just competing with dealerships an hour away, they're competing with dealers several hours away if the price is right. I drove 300 miles each way to buy a truck in May. I saved $7,000 by driving that far instead of accepting the offers I got at nearby dealers. Your observation matches mine. Of the brands I looked at earlier this summer, GM is offering vehicles that are more affordable in their cheaper trims. Half-ton trucks specifically, but also some of the SUV's. There's a reason they went from nearly having Ram sell more trucks than their Chevy brand to selling more trucks than any other manufacturer. If you're that worried about reliability negotiate an extended warranty into the price. Most dealers will move on the warranty price, it isn't set in stone. I work with several guys that have newer GM half-tons and they all show up to work every day. A few have over 200k without any issues.

I've been following the 2024 Golf R inventory of 5 VW dealers in my area. In September they had 35 in stock between them, today they have 33. At that pace they have no choice but to slash prices by year end, and then even more in Jan/Feb. I can wait.

No one can afford a $100K+ truck to work out of, if it can't handle the job, and spends all its time in the repair shop for a recall. I'll keep my 25 year old pickup. It's a paid for, dead reliable, powerful, plain turbo diesel. 235 K miles and still working well. A new truck would be nice, but not at today's prices.

The big trouble is that the car companies are dealing with a mandate to make their products more energy-efficient and not pollute the atmosphere so much. That's why these trucks have such small engines. It's also why these trucks are not selling so much. What farmer or rancher is interested in an underpowered truck that cannot pull a livestock trailer or haul a bunch of grain? What's going to happen is that the government will have to subsidize these vehicles to get them sold. That's the only way a someone working in a service-oriented business is going to afford one of these vehicles. If the government can finance the Ukrainian government and the Israeli war effort, why not the car companies?

Excellent video, im astonished by your knowledge of the auto business, I've sold cars/trucks at numerous dealers for last 25 years. Our DOL (days on lot) or what we called years ago "lot rot" was after a vehicle sat for 45 days without selling now it's pushing a year for some models, 70k and up mostly. But I'm curious you must be in th8s business to know all of this😅😅

I'm a Toyota guy, I've have had over 10 Toyotas throughout the years. In 2020, I traded a 2019 4Runner for a Colorado ZR2 Bison with the baby Duramax. It was an incredible vehicle, and I regret trading it. The Chevrolet Colorado of that generation were a far better value than the Tacoma. I currently have a 2019 Tundra with 38K on the clock and a 2017 Highlander with 120,000 miles. We really want to get a new vehicle to replace the Highlander, but there's no Toyota's that are worth the price. We're now hoping for a Tahoe, but looking for the right deal and the low single digit interest rates. Keep up the great content.

Something has to give in this economy and I'm sure the only way these vehicles are rolling off is if the dealers sell these at a price so low it'll break them. It'll take more than a $15,000 price cut. People need $300 monthly car payments to come back and the industry all made $1,500 car payment vehicles.

Excellent video. Some in the industry have stated that many dealers are trying to hold out because they fattened their wallets during the pandemic. If true, those dealers cannot hold out much longer without dropping prices dramatically. Also, what happened to dealer service departments covering upwards of 100 percent - some even 120 percent - of the entire dealership’s costs? That’s what these dealers should focus on and move the darn metal already. It’s absurd.

Average american is at all time high for debt, this country's fucked financially we need a great reset. I've been looking at buying used models that are a few years old and every time I look up the MSRP of that spec and year, it ends up being within 5% of that years MSRP, with 30k+ miles no thankyou. Used cars need to tank in price so as far as I am concerned the automotive industry did this to themselves. I'll just keep buying really old cars and fixing them up fuck it.

Just talked to 2 toyota dealers. Aside from Tundra, they want to sell at MSRP saying stuff is high demand. At best they can give 500 off + all their junk fees. Dealer lots are packed. In no rush for a mini-van and from what I can tell, the longer you wait, the lower prices go at this point. Wasn't too long ago sienna's were ordered and waited on, but now they're sitting unsold on dealer lots. I don't care as much for price...it's the resale...to buy today at MSRP and then next year they selling 10k off MSRP you'd get killed on depreciation.

Heck, Chevy dealers are discounting Stingrays 11-12 percent. I really think that most car companies don’t mind if some of their dealers go under. The “traditional” manufacturers would love to have the control that the EV manufacturers have over distribution. Not really a good thing for consumers though. If companies don’t have decent choices at 30k in development, they will not have a future.

Hell even my dad with a 750 credit score just had to drop 10g's up front to get a standard bronco sport taking away from his retirement to pay for it. These dealerships and car companies need to pander less to investors and personal wants when it comes to pricing and pander more toward the 28k a year 5-600 credit score 72% of americans. Otherwise this will continue and ill get a cheap laugh pissing on a dilapidated old ford dealerships front door

As far as these GREEDY MANUFACTURERS, who have raised sticker prices waaayyy higher than the rate of inflation & selling us BAD QUALITY vehicles to boot, well, FRIG THEM TOO!! Here is a suggestion for them.... SLASH those MSRP's and be like Hyundai and give a 10 YEAR bumper to bumper warranty on your vehicles if you really believe you are selling a quality product, then stand behind your product!!
