I had a 1992 SC300, 5 speed. Bought in 2012 with 60k miles on it, garage princess, 1 owner. Just NUTS how nice/ahead of the curve that car was for 1992. Toyota was out to prove a point with this car and the LS400. That they could build a better car than Mercedes at a lower price point. After owning that car for 9 years/50k more miles, it being rock solid reliable, didn't suffer any cosmetic maladies with age, they proved their point to me.

Your telling me, my same situation 1994 Celica is amazing, it was basically a Lexus Corolla. Smooth, reliable, quick, what you get from a Lexus but like a entry level base model.

The ls400s also had a whacky thermofan. We swapped ours out for the ones from an E series falcon which are basically identical in size massively powerful by comparison. Never had a cooling problem after that. And easier to control

Valved exhaust would be beautiful, loud when desired, quiet for day to day
@CockatooDude5 ай бұрын
This is probably just me but it feels like this is a kind of car to which being loud is never really suitable. It doesn't strike me as having that kind of personality. The gearbox and throttle mapping are simply too smooth, the bodywork too friendly and unassuming.

I love 2+2 GTs. Car enthusiasts don't understand GTs for some reason, when they're oh soooo fancy
@stoneylonesome40625 ай бұрын
There’s a three-way balance between handling, road-holding, and ride-quality - when designing a car, you have to pick two.
@Ang3lUki5 ай бұрын
@@stoneylonesome4062 GTs try to do all 3, and that's why many so-called enthusiasts think they're dumb, when they're honestly really cool. They're not meant for the track, they're meant to be a private jet for the highway.
@stoneylonesome40625 ай бұрын
@@Ang3lUki I own a Citroën SM (3.0L Fuel Injected, 5MT, Euro-spec headlights). It arguably has the best handling and ride-quality of any production car ever made, but most have never heard of it because it can’t road-hold very well.
@Ang3lUki5 ай бұрын
@@stoneylonesome4062 Again, that's why I think they're so cool, they inherently have to compromise in some way so comparing GT coupes isn't as simple as comparing stat-sheet numbers, it's all very subjective, it feels like engineering meeting art

This was hilarious. Great video. By the way, the passenger cup holder is only useful for holding an empty cup when you need both hands. I have two, a '93 and a '99. I drive my '99 (with 205,000 miles) whenever I can. I did take out the six CD changer and Nakamichi head unit and have a double-din unit with CarPlay. Great for cruising. As I watch this, I remember how much more refined the '97 to '00 cars are. I would love a black interior.
