Since filming the reaction I've read through some fan theories and this MV goes SO much deeper than I first thought! So impressive when it comes to the cinematography and how they told the story. Really cool stuff.

Biggest fan theory: The members did die in an accident and she was the only survivor (why she wears the cast) but as she was dealing with her grief, she met that guy and he was the only one that seemed to make her forget about her grief hence why she got distracted and filmed him during basketball and the symbolic meaning of her putting her cam recorder down at the tap area means she's slowly moving away from her grief to happiness hence the happy yet eary sound of the song. Also, the deer that she sees at the end of the video, means she finally has inner peace. She has moved on. ( That's why we saw the video cam destroyed and in side b , the ending scene shows new jeans coming back to life and sat down happily on the couch).

I do really feel that NewJeans will start the 5th generation of the k-pop industry with this beautiful R&B music style. It is unique, sound is amazing and everything ADOR does with promotions and stuff = 10/10. They have talented people, and I can't wait what they will show us on 2nd of January 2023. Also - the MV is brilliant, can't say anything else about it, I lost my words after watching that.

I got carried away with the song at first too because it was so good. But if you really look into the MV, the story is kinda sad. The girl with the video cam (Heeseo) has been imagining her friends (Newjeans) all along. The way I see it, they were a group of 6 friends that got into some sort of fatal accident, and she was the only survivor (her arm was broken and wrapped in a cast). The boy in the video is a love interest who is concerned about her well-being after he notices her hallucinating . Not sure about the deer though. Heeseo breaking the camera was her attempt to get over her guilt or depression and letting her friends go (who are presumably dead)

I don’t think they’re dead or anything like that. I think she has imaginary friends who are new jeans. But at some point she notices that her friends aren’t real because there is a boy she is interested in, as long as the boy is there with her the imaginary friends aren’t there but if she recalls it again by watching the old videos she remembers them and they appear again. I think I’m going to far 😂

This MV shows the relationship between Newjeans and fans called bunnies. The girl with the camcorder represents a fans. N the male student represents realistic problems, the scene of getting rained is too. At first, she cheered for idols hard, but as she live, it weakens or stops. New Jeans means 'Kpop idols' for that lonely girl (her refuge). So they are imaginary ones- as she grows, she likes a boy and also she leaves the group with age. And she overcame her loneliness and became an adult. The final scene of B means the girl became a woman and recalls the new jeans.

In my opinion the video clearly is a view on the parasocial relationships formed between idol and fans, where we really feel like they are ours friends but ultimately they are people we don’t know. Those relationships despite bringing confort and company when we feel the most lonely can also be damaging to one’s life and that is represented in the video as the girl alienated herself from her classmates, walks in the rain and dangerously backwards on a rooftop. Ultimately as she grows older, she is able to grow up and move on from her loneliness and form a real relationship with the boy on the video while also looking back with fondness at NewJeans and the comfort they brought her.

NewJeans has said that "Ditto" is a song for their fans and continues the 90's nostalgia vibe. Here is my theory (similar to others as well). In the MV, "Heesoo" is a loner, kind of an outcast. Listening to Kpop, being a fan of NewJeans is her way of coping. She considers NewJeans as the friends she wanted to have. She imagines them as part of her reality. However, at some point, she moves from this stage in her life as she develops a relationship with the guy IRL. She then lets go of NewJeans and puts her memories of them away in a box. Years later, she opens the box and watches the video --- she remembers the time that she was a fan with fondness. The MV evokes a feeling of nostalgia -- how when we grow up, we look back at the group we liked and remember how they were a part of our life at one time.

hope this helps you so if you don’t know Ditto is a 2000 Korean movie about two students in the same school, one in 1979, the other in 2000, that are somehow able to talk to each other using amateurs and radio, so new jeans are the students from 1979 and the girl is from 2000 both from same school the one that is in the mv and so she got the camera and now can see the girls and that is why the uniform is different the brown one that new jeans are wearing is the old one and the blue on is new

A. The girl is into an idol called New Jeans. Carrying a camcorder and taking pictures of New Jeans. But in the middle, the existence of a male student starts to come into the eyes. I shoot them again today, but as expected, my friends look at me strangely. I share my sadness on the bench with New Jeans (I guess the male student caught my eye) When the male student looks at him, he spurns the spot and leaves. New Jeans looks at male students I take a picture of a male student with a camcorder. New Jeans seem to get along just fine without me or without me Maybe I'm not needed by them... I feel empty and lonely. There are no graffiti on my cast... I feel betrayed. As I go up to the rooftop, I think of the memories I had with them. I dropped my camcorder and it broke. I made up my mind. Saying that I will not go through the ordeal with the New Jeans, I take out an umbrella and go alone. Minji receives a poning, but I do not receive it. I fell in love with a male student. (Like growing pains) I became an adult and found a video in my memory box Let's see the camcorder videos I took They weren't looking at the camcorder, they were looking into my eyes. I feel my time was not wasted. When I brought out the memories, they returned to me as if nothing had happened.

What's interesting is that it seems like everyone who watched Side B before Side A immediately realized the meaning of the last 30 seconds of Side A (the NewJeans girls were never actually there with the protagonist), but everyone who watched Side A before Side B were too overwhelmed by the music and everything to realize this. I really do feel like people were supposed to watch Side B before Side A (the release order) but the names should have been swapped.

Lol....I can’t believe you missed the huge twist of the two videos! You were so intent on the music. Side A shows us this girl filming her friends...she is so intent on them she pretty much ignores the cute guy. In the end of side A we find out that a lot of the times she was filming them...they were not there, she was all alone...she was imagining them. In side B she starts to wake from this delusion, she starts to see that she is all alone. She is simply obsessed with people that is no longer there. So she drops the camera, she allows the grass to grow on her memory of them and starts to pay attention to what’s there like this boy. But in the end she goes back and relives their memories. There is a vhs tape and there are the girls. So it’s not clear if they were there before then they left or they were never there.
