THe Promotion thing is exactly what I thought was going to happen when they introduced it. When everyone promotes, no one is Promoted; you're just paying to get to Level. Sooner or later eBay gets all the profits and sellers may or may not break even. But if you don't pay you don't get seen. Mark my words - sooner or later Promotion will be mandatory and the only option left will be how much of your lunch you're willing to let eBay eat. It's one of the reasons I quit selling. I don't pay blackmail.

The problem I have with "promoted listings" is ebay takes the percentage from the entire total. When you are selling items that flirt with the shipping cost, lets say a $20 item with $7.60 shipping $2.40 in tax,so the fees are say $3.60 which comes after the shipping is paid. If you promote it could be another $1.80 or so with fees and shipping totaling $15 out of the $30 total then you need your original item cost, then self employment tax and income tax as well......ugh!

24:40 Promoted Listings: It could be that eBay is trying to get more money from sellers so that their quarterly numbers look better. The suggested rate (12% for example) can be a made up number by eBay. It does not have to be the average sellers promote at. I still can't believe that they get away with charging their fees on the tax they collect from buyers. Cheers, Julien

I have never promoted and based on those fees lol I don't really feel like I ever will. My titles and my photos sell my items- and if I realize they aren't selling, than I take that as something I just shouldn't have picked in the first place.

I just saw another video where a woman said she had to turn off comments and tell people to keep their rude opinions to themselves and just keep scrolling if they don't like the video. It's amazing how mean people can be when hidden behind a screen. As for promotions, I HATE them. I did try them at 2% when my sales tanked and promoted listings were new, but when ebay added the promoted fee to taxes and shipping, I ended them all. They're just greedy, and like you said, the rate keeps going up. I saw some suggested rates close to 20%! But, 2 weeks ago my sales almost stopped. I had two days with only 2 sales each day. I felt like I was being punished with 8700 listings and so few sales, so I decided to test promotions at 5% across the board for 2 weeks. It helped just a little, and who knows if I would have had those sales either way? I just wish everyone would stop doing them, because like you said, the suggested rate keeps going up.

I do a flat shipping rate on all my clubs. 12.50 on single clubs and 15.99 for more than one or sets. And 35 for golf bags.

When you list online you sort of have to list high, it's just the way it is...I list everything VERY high because every time I post something I inevitably get customers wanting $20-$30 off the price hours after I list it. It can be frustrating.

I agree on promotions. What a scam. You don't have to do promoted to sell something but quite often, it becomes Pay to Play. I refuse to literally double my selling fees by paying 15% to promote. At max, I'll do maybe 2ish percent which is the minimum where it makes any bit of difference...if it even does. I don't know that they ever even proved that promoted listings actually makes a diff

For some reason as a buyer I hate promoted listings. I always skip over them. I feel they often are not what I want anyway. I feel like the top of the organic listings are the best options usually. I feel like this may just be me as I am weird like that. Of course this view of mine comes from any search I do. Whether just a random google search or on any marketplace. I always scroll past the paid results at the top.

If the shipping price of clubs has gone up for you, then it is up for everyone. Sellers will be raising prices to cover the increase. You could do the same. Raise you price the amount of the shipping icrease. My guess is, you will still be competitive.

promoted is a scam, search function may put it at the top but if the person refines the search, like filtering by price it may not stay at the top. I have been selling on ebay for over 20 years and I refuse to pay them more. I tested it originally and didn't see any improvement.

Selling clothing is the worse I will have five photos of measurements alone not including all the other pictures and I still get returns. Clothes are the easiest way to get defects and slow your traffic down. 33:48
