Maddy dont worry about the mess, as my daughter says "the housework police aren't coming". lol. You always get through it! Your home is lovely and getting more lovely by the hour. xx
@Wheezywatches3 жыл бұрын
The hardest part of a renovation is always the mess. It has to get worse before it gets better especially when it’s your full house! The beauty of going room by room is that you can make those clean respites like your kitchen when you do finish a space. But take your time to do things right and you’ll be happy without feeling like you’re unfinished or have more to do. Such progress already!

The strips of wood to hold up the shelves is called shoe molding here in the US. It replaces the plastic clips. You would have to decide the spacing of the shelves because it would be permanent rather than adjustable.
@amandadobbs86093 жыл бұрын
Or cleats. But as you said, those are fixed mounts. Personally, I always prefer adjustability. If Olivia wants to keep the feature of adjustable shelves with zero-clearance storage, she could talk to the carpenter they're using about other built-in options, such as sawtooth tracks or various decorative rabbets (or all kinds of other things I've never heard of, since so much furniture these days is lazily designed and cheaply made). As far as I know, the tracks are usually the better option, since they're invisible to the front. You used to find them in old houses all the time, before people started gutting the built-in storage for more -cheap and lazy- fashionable builds. [EDIT: I don't suppose side-mounted tracks exactly qualify as zero-clearance. But, still. Something like that.]

There's always tons of work in gorgeous period houses like yours ~ always pace yourself and have plenty of short breaks & treats. It's surprizing that when you take 20mins out every now & then and stand back, you find solutions to what seem unfathomable conundrums. Your living room is already looking better with the lighter walls. I don't know how you feel about large mirrors but one in a wooden period frame on the opposite wall to your living room window would visually expand the space ~ spreading light around. It's possible I suspect Roxie is feeling unsettled because of the furniture upheaval, so she made a cosy 'den' in protest...gorgeous girl!

@damelesley-annewakefieldkt41282 жыл бұрын
Yes we do eat Mince Pies in Belize and anywhere British families are. The MINCE is made up of diced apples, rasins, or dried grapes. Brown sugar, cinnamon, rum or lime juice. Boil to thicken, and fill a pie with it. Of course you can use any dried fruit.

Silicone caulking over the foam Will give you a smoother finish. The foam might be a bit porous looking, like a sponge. You can get paintable caulking too. Also for “closed” storage in the meantime, get some big baskets for the bottom few shelves. It’ll add some texture too.

Invisalign is awful for about 2-3 weeks and then you get used to it, and your gums loosen up, and it's all a LOT better. If you change your aligners at night then by the time you wake up any discomfort is usually gone. If it's tearing up the inside of your mouth, some dental wax can help until your mouth adjusts.

If you ever decide in the future to add internal access to the garage room, would you also consider also breaking through behind the log burner and making it double fronted into both rooms? Practical from a heating pov and would look great too! House is looking amazing, and remember this is your forever home, take your time and try and enjoy the process as much as the result!

As I have progressed into what I call the Crone zone (I have just turned 70. Yippee!), I have begun to realize that things do not have to be done 5 minutes ago. So, my new mantra is that “I give myself permission to … hire someone to do the heavy lifting or fix this or that or … well, whatever

Whoopsy! Didn’t finish. Anyhoo. Just take the pressure off. Give yourself time to euphemistically “sit down for a minute” . Go see the Christmas lights. Have lunch. Have a cup of tea. And so on. Having all that stuff in the hallway IS annoying but just for the moment. No one you know and love will think less of you considering what you are trying to achieve. And … what you are trying to achieve is amazing! The kitchen is perfection. The only time line is Christmas and having your family and friends over but as I said above, no one will care. Your living room is shaping up brilliantly and, clearly, Roxie already thinks it is the bee’s knees. So … what else matters? Just sayin’.

I lived in NZ until I was 10 but my mum’s mother was English and mum made 6 dozen mince pies every Christmas. She gave 2 dozen to my uncle and I think my father consumed most of the remainder! I live in England now. I had an Aga a long time ago. The toast made on the hot plates is amazing and I would have loved one of your mince pies warmed in the Aga. Your kitchen is just beautiful and the rest is coming along nicely. Roxie is adorable!

So we *sort of* have mince pies in the US but it’s the kind of thing only your grandpa or that one great aunt eat at the family Christmas party. You can buy jarred mincemeat pie filling in the US around Christmas but it’s super old-fashioned. And we make it into full-sized pies you slice. We just have so many different varieties of sweet pies in the US that it kind of gets lost in the shuffle. My grandmother used to make it and it’s my uncle’s favorite pie, but my grandmother was half Canadian so I’m wondering if that’s something more prominent in Canada than the US.

I grew up in upstate Pennsylvania (US) in the 70s and 80s and my family ate mincemeat pies (the fruit kind) during the holidays. I live in the south now and was just last weekend commenting to my husband that nobody seems to know what they are down here. They were too spicy for my taste when I was a child but I imagine I would enjoy one now. Maybe I'll take a crack at my grandmother's recipe!

Good morning Madeline and Alex. Gotta love some comments, don’t worry about the peeps that don’t like chats. Love you being honest and direct. I had a coffee this morning with toast and marmalade. I’m putting my Christmas stuff today and the tree is almost done. I love mince pies. In fact my mum is British so we grew up with them along with Christmas cakes and jam tarts too along with sausage rolls. All home made. I have her tart pan and use them every year. Along with the tart cutters in original tin made in England and bought in 1944. Everything is going to turn out beautifully. Hang in there, take mini breaks and rest when you need too. Sending love and hugs from damp Northern California.🎄🥰🙏✨❤️😘🤗🎄🎄🎄🥂 Roxy just wanted to be in a cozy, safe place and too cute for words 🥰 I love the book shelves by the fireplace, it gives such a cozy feeling to the room. Once the books are in place, you will be ok with them. Xoxo

You probably both need a break from all the decorating , painting, plastering etc - you've both achieved so much & worked hard since moving in. A home is ongoing - you can't make it perfect straight away - you have to do it a bit at time. Also with Xmas just round the corner I think you are right Maddie to simply get the Living Room clean, tidy & comfy - it doesn't have to be perfect. (Its good to see you thinking like that). You need some space to relax ....it will be fine. I bet you'll both finish on time anyway you always seem so organised. x :)
