In order to get rid of the little knobs that you don't like, can't you just carve out little holes from the shelves? So they fall over the knobs and sit a tiny bit lower? That's the way IKEA shelves are made

Great idea! If you know someone with with Dremel they’d let you borrow, it would be super easy.

Yea there's literally a million and one more sustainable ways of covering these lil bits instead of ripping out perfectly good shelves and having a carpenter recreate them..

Your vlogmas is great 👍 your living room is coming along and I’m proud of seeing you and Alex dive in and get it done. When all the painting is done and your curtains up, it’s going to be so beautiful and cozy. The color is lovely. It’s satisfying to see the old ugly bits disappear. What a wonderful way to refresh the room. Loved the Christmas lights. So nice to see you enjoying some free time. The talking reindeer was a crack up. So exciting for both of you. 🎄🎄🎄😘❤️❤️🥰✨🍷

Suggestion to get rid of the shelf tabs... throw them out and before you paint them install the shelves using long thin (could even be beveled or mitered, decorative) strips of wood ... 1"x1"x12 ", 1.5"x1.5"x12", (12"=whatever the depth of the shelf is) depending on how much weight the shelf would be supporting. You would need to glue and use finish nails for a good strong shelf.

I love lights displays! My hometown here in the US has one that for many years got rated the best in the US so they’re super nostalgic for me. Ours is drive through (except for the first weekend where you can buy special tickets to walk the 3.5 miles and bring your dog) and goes through our city’s botanical garden. All the original displays were made by retired rocket scientists because my hometown is famous for developing the rocket that sent man to the moon. They even made a Saturn V out of lights! But tbh, any light display, even driving down streets where people deck out their houses is great.

You need to watch some videos about how to install bookcases to look built in. A lot of people start with a pre made bookcase like yours and then use trim to make the bookcase meet the side wall. If you're using the shelves that came with it, you can attach a piece of trim across the front, that will make the shelf look thicker and could hide the shelf pegs. As you say, a darker paint color will hide a lot of sins. Your space looks so good painted, excited to see more!

Love your renovation videos :)! For the bookshelves, it you go to a carpenter, he can make small notches under each shelves to hide the fixings. It's really easy to make!
@Stephanie-lg1cm3 жыл бұрын
Love the paint colour you’ve chosen, have you considered putting wood trim around the bookcases and along the front of the shelves to make them look chunkier, we did this with some we had and they looked like they had been custom built. Don’t get too downhearted about the mess, it’ll all come together beautifully.
@flamingoliz3 жыл бұрын
Agreed, that's what I came here to say. A lot of woodworkers will fake a thicker shelf by attacking a thicker piece on the front of a shelf. Adding some trim pieces to cover the gaps between the shelf and the wall will make it look built in.

The best way to sand is with a wet/damp sponge after the filler has dried, and let dry for a bit before painting, that way there isn’t as much dust

Hi, i was thinking about your shelf support issue and on a handmade cabinet we have there are holes routered into the edge of each shelf so the holders slip in when you put the shelf in the cabinet and are then invisible from the front if that makes sense. Obviously you would have to have a shelf deep enough to do this but i thought mabe if the ones you have were not suitable you could mabe get old of some old pine from somewhere which was thick enough, that way you can keep the cupboards you have worked so hard on and you get a bit more of a unique look

hi maddie and alex! i had an inspirational thought about your bookcases in the sitting room i wanted to share with you. i remember in one video you pondered lighting them up and i thought that was a nice idea! my suggestion is: what if you put mirrors on the back wall on the bookcases and glass shelving, similar to a curio cabinet. the mirrors would reflect light, so you would not need to use electrical. i thought glass and mirrors on the top part for display and cabinet doors on the bottom 1/3 would be nice
