I flew hangliders many years ago (late 1970's) and was given an incredible sail plane experience In the late 1980's and was given the stick for a few minutes. Then the pilot finished the flight with a 10 foot of the ground fly by ending with a straight up ascent when he the completed a three leaf and landed. One of the greatest experiences of my life. I enjoyed watching you prepare and take care of you're aircraft in pursuit of what you obviously love to do. I subscribed to ejou your enthusiasm and you're beauty. Thank you for sharing with us and good luck and safe flying.

I lived in Germany as a child many MANY years ago. My dad was in the US Army. He had a friend with a glider, and he took me and my brother for rides every once in a while. I do not remember where this took place. But I remember well how it felt to be winched off the side of a mountain in the Alps. It was sometime in the early 60's. We were stationed at Garmisch.

JS, on the video at 5:15 you are attaching a bungee that you are pushing away from you to hook into the rear of the wing bag. Many eye doctors will not have any bungees around the house due to the large number of eye injuries they cause when they slip from the hand. You can lose an eye when they snap back at you. Always think of this when using a bungee.
@peterbremberg39003 жыл бұрын
True, sailors know this.
@alanmonument29113 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I cringed and thought the same thing. Pull the bungee strap towards you to connect, rather than pushing them away. Then if if the bungee accidentally slips from your hand, it springs away from your face/eyes, and not towards it. Many people have lost their sight when using bungee straps. Treat them as being dangerous. Good luck, and stay safe.
@Romans--bo7br3 жыл бұрын

Taping the gaps at the wing roots, hardcore! The tailwheel on my plane has more drag then this whole bird. I also liked the little suspension springs on the wing wheels. That is one lucky aircraft.
@HotelPapa1003 жыл бұрын
That's standard on gliders. You don't want the high pressure from the lower side blow through the gap and mess up the flow downstream.
@portnuefflyer3 жыл бұрын
@@HotelPapa100 Yes I realized/remembered that after I typed that, but for this fat tired draggy small airplane pilot it still gave me a chuckle. Her bird is otherwise so low drag, that the root taping is no doubt pretty significant. I also like the way she covered every inch of it after the assembly, my aircraft would have just had to tough it out! Hope she kicks butt in the competition, I have yet to meet a women pilot of any flying machine that wasn't excellent.

I've only been out once and it was such a different than when I'm normally tooling around in powered aircraft. Being in the glider was sooooo quiet. Gliding is fun. I called my mom right after I went for that ride (around the Rockies by Boulder, CO) and my mom was worried... "aren't glider more dangerous than airplanes?" I told her, "no way. There's no engine! After that, there's hardly any other moving parts!!" I don't think she fully understood. Was still a good laugh.

Hello Juliet and helper Michael . Good luck with your championship . Gliding is a fantastic sport . I used to do it a bit when i was young (Ka-8) . I have never seen a glider being packed like that , i like it . Does that also exist for , for example a general aviation aeroplane like the Piper cherokee PA-28 140 , or a Mooney M20C ? I have always wondered about this . Isn't it very important to protect the wings , because the slightest (especially with gliders) contamination diminishes the performance . Erwin , Belgium .
