One of my wise mentors who was also an activist for social justice causes for part of his life said a few of things about being "conservative". He said the best progressives he ever knew began conservative. He said all of us need a good foundation and law e.g. Torah to begin any life journey we undertake. Citizenship question used to exist in the census. From my experience of looking at census: people lied and said they were citizens when they were not; people went out of their way to avoid being enumerated, even when they were citizens ... and the list goes on and on. The citizenship question does NOT help anyone except those people who want to single out one group and given that census data is only viewable in the aggregate -- meaning only totals can be viewed and not individual data -- for 72 years, there is no rationale for including this information in any census going forward.

I walked door to door and enumated the 2010 Census. I can tell you from experience that a lot of people would definitely not want to answer honestly, if that question were on there. As it was, I had to assure people that their data would not be made public (for at least 71 years) and that it was not being used by their ex-wives or employers or anyone to track them down, and ally other "Big Brother" fears. And yes... some folks were also worried about the fact that they were not here legally and it could be used against them if they answered. Ilegal aliens use the roads and hospitals, too. Illegal aliens shop at stores and use the same public resources everyone else does. So they do need to be included-- Every. Single. One. I'm also a Genealogist. The censuses are a vital and invaluable part of any genealogy research. They are like a huge "family photograph" of our entire nation, a snapshot of what and who we are at one moment in history. The loss of the entire 1890 Census (the entire census was burned in a great fire) is an infamous roadblock that all researchers must fight to get past and to work around. To have any incomplete census is to have an incomplete picture of our nation as it exists on Census Day. It makes people invisible to history, and invisible to those who do not wish to acknowledge their worth. Manipulating the census and intimidating people from answering honestly is a vile attempt at altering history, and it must never be allowed.

Hand counting votes is not a terrible thing, as long as you hire enough people to do it. Many countries don't have any electronic voting or automated counting, and some of those countries have a higher population than Georgia. Those countries will be able to count most of the votes in a day or two. I admit it's not directly comparable, since American elections pile so many different positions and propositions into one ballot, while other countries are unlikely to vote on more than two or three things per election, but it's still something that can be solved with more people.

The race & ethnicity questions in 2020 were very confusing - evem to the helpline operators. I called to verify since the question didn't give "American" as a suggestion & later I saw that they weren't even tabulating American as a valid answer. I didn't come from somewhere else - I am an American! Today's census data is different than the censuses collected when a majority of immigrants came. I am a 3rd generation Finnish American on my paternal side as both sets of my great grandparents immigrated here in the early 1900s. I consider myself a Finlander, but I am only half Finnish descent. My mom's family has branches who were here 400 years ago from the Mayflower, the New Amsterdam colony, etc. I am 1/4 German as my maternal grandpa's parents & grandparents immigrated in the late 1800s. The other 1/4 is what my mom called "a Duke's Mixture" of English, Welsh, Irish, Scotch, Danish, etc. I cannot answer an ethnicity question with a single nationality other than American. I have some Finnish family customs, but my grandparents were Americans. I have some family customs on my mom's side, but I lived across the street from my dad's parents, so Finnish was more prominent since my mom's dad died when I was 7 & my grandma passed 6 years before I was born. I called & asked the census worker how people were supposed to answer the ethnicity question if they had several generations born in the US - she said it wasn't clear what answers were "correct". I asked if "American with ancestors from ..." was what they wanted - she wasn't sure. After the fact, I found out American wasn't an acceptable answer to the question - weird that an American Census didn't accept American ethnicity as an answer! I am sure there are many Americans who don't even know where their original immigrant ancestors came from! Clear instructions would've gone a long way! My answers are different than the answers my great grandparents would've given as immigrants who were born in Finland/Germany. Once you start researching your family tree, you realize that census data is important in your quest for answers. Sure, I know where my most recent ancestors immigrated from 100+ years ago - I also had an idea of where my ancestors came from when they immigrated 400 years ago, but DNA tests don't even tell you exactly where ALL of your ancestors started out at because everyone receives 50% of their DNA from each parent & the distribution of DNA is random, so every generation loses DNA from the line of ancestors. I started researching when I was 12 in 1984, so I am very interested in the various genealogy tv shows. There's a lot of famous people who don't know anything about their family tree once they go back a couple generations or more.

I don’t think you can underestimate the value of the Project 2025 analysis. Win or Lose, they will push all this forward and have. I hope that Velshi remains vigilant in reporting this topic in detail. I’m not sure conservative it is to plan overthrown of each institution of government, but I guess we are stuck with a word that should be autocratic or white rasicit or despotic.😊

Citizenship v Census v House of Representatives When this Constitution went into effect, a Slave counted as 2/5th's of a person, NOT a Citizen, when they were setting up the House of Representatives. The Constitution does NOT limit it to Citizens.

I am conservative, white, very low income -- and add, elderly. While I hear of the 'great financial boom' this country is experiencing, more and more that I had relied on has been taken away. With Maga obstructed congress, plus 4 prior years of trump, parts of Project 2025 HAVE been enacted, with the most vulnerable-- Watching Maga fight to take food *away* FROM children is *morally* SICK. Telling seniors to go ahead and die, *not* to utilize medical care in order "to save the government's money" is heart sickening & breaking!! 💔 How can this country BOAST about being the richest in the world, AND seeing a sprawl of poverty growing soo deep be possibly happening?? Did Maga only count the rich and middle classes, and toss away census of a third of the people?? How did Covid Death count affect census??

There's another downstream effect that's not as serious, but does effect the information used to make decisions. Gallup and many other polling companies use census data to determine how to choose a representative sample of households/people to survey. If a population is undercounted, less of them will be polled, so the results tend to skew to whatever beliefs & attitudes are held by the majority of those unafraid to complete the form.

Oh like do you have a toilet? That was a standard at one time. How many rooms, running water, stuff like that? Census is more than just a headcount. It gives a snapshot into the socioeconomic conditions of people, and doesn't go public for 70 years.

The census used to include the citizenship question years ago. While doing research on my family research found many who lied. They were not citizen ( they thought) and nothing happened. In truth their mother was born in Texas about 10 years after statehood. In truth, they really were citizens. I found a lot of family that were missing from the censuses since 1930.. i think they were hiding. Also found one family member who was counted twice because the info giver probably thought he was supposed to give all family members regardless of residence. My dad and uncle were missing from their foster home because the info giver didn’t understand it was for all people living in the house. Poor instruction from census takers.

Not citizenship. Place of Birth. 1910, 1920, 1930 census also asked date of Immigration to US if applicable. The Census in 1860 which was 15 years after Texas statehood only asked place of birth. Same questions on 1850 5 years after Texas statehood.

@@TH-tl6sy my Great grandmother’s birth certificate says she was born in Zapata Texas. She didn’t know she was born there. You are right about place if birth. Looked at my census copies again. One census, they were born in Mexico. 10 years later born in USA.
