Language is like the gold standard for prog drumming and music theory

This or Exoplanet. They got me into playing techy riffs.

EXQUEEZE ME?? First listen?? lol I am glad I’m here. Big fan is an understatement. I will follow this band as long they produce and I breathe. Contortionist and Aviations share a similar space in my heart. Also, guitarist and drummer are twins, same can be said for misery signals. It’s a buff.

😄 indeed! Very much liking what I’m hearing here so far.

Reimagined and Relapse are highlights, but Clairvoyant as an album is a real work of art.

Great band!! I didn't even think of mentioning them to you, but not surprised you enjoy them :) Great review as usual Steve!

YES! If you want to get a grasp on their sound before diving into full album reactions, I'd suggest Flourish and then Language I: Intuition. And as mentioned before in the comments, listening to their album Language is an amazing experience.

They're one of the best, and I feel like everyone's forgotten how good they were/are. 'Language' was one of the best modern metal albums by a long shot

The entire language album and the EP this is off of are phenomenal. Very talented musicians that are very educated in music theory and are able to make complicated music without being overly busy

Love this band I remember when this single dropped had it on repeat. They really got my attention when they dropped their song Reimagined then a few months later dropped the Clairvoyant album just fantastic stuff then went back and listened to the Language album. These guys are due for some new music this song and EP dropped in 2019 it's been 5 years!

Ahhh The Contortionist ... really good thoughtful band ... truely unique.

Anything by them is outstanding. Their first album was very deathcore, screamy, djenty etc, but each album after has been slowly getting softer and softer, more into a modern prog rock vibe.

the album Language is my top album of 2015. They have new music coming this year and I'm hyped for that, their vocalist is also in a band called Last Chance to Reason, who have released 2 new singles after nearly 11 years, it's very good. would recommend.

Another band whose drummer is VERY good, Joey Bacca's playing is so damn unique and balanced between musicality and technical skill. He's the only drummer, imo, who plays with a level of creativity and uniqueness that is on par with Jay Postones of Tesseract. Both bands are fantastic and are both producers of math/technical madness, but always contained by beautiful ambience, melody, and mature song writing ability in general. Love this band.

If you do a reaction to the song Language Pt 1 by The Contortionist (and you absolutely should) - do the video that has Part 2 included as well (should be 9:40 in length). They need to be heard together as one track. It would be a travesty not to - like listening to Euclid without hearing The Night Does Not Belong To God first.
