We paid when we paid off slavers to release the slaves so it could be done far quicker. We paid with 20,000 sailors life's also. We only finished paying off that debt in 2015 which means every Britain alive today has already paid reparations. This is about greed and nothing more. The sad thing is, we were happy to pay that to end the slave trade back then, it was a point of pride. I bet they would wish they hadn't got involved and left them all to it because if we hadn't done what we had, the slave trade would still more than likely be going on as it currently is in Africa a d we wouldn't being made to feel guilty for something we largely eradicated

@scousen3il4 сағат бұрын
But was it even your ancestors? High chance it wasn’t but it’s also a high chance your ancestors were amongst those who were happy to pay towards the abolition of the slave trade. It’s only the elite who were truly involved in it and it was illegal to even have slaves in England at least from the year 1100. If a slave stepped foot on British soil they were considered free because Britain was considered too pure for slavery.

The descendants of slave owners were paid off by UK taxpayers on top of making fortunes from Slavery, so go after those family descendants who still have the wealth. Not from UK Taxpers pockets. Here are some families that owned slaves in the UK: Rees Moggs owned slaves in the 1700s The Williams and Lambert families: Owned estates in Thames Ditton The Godwin Austen family: Owned estates in Shalford The More-Molyneux family: Owned estates in Loseley Park Thomas Lord Onslow: A slave owner Hannah Barnes: A widow who owned nine slaves in Kingston, Jamaica The ancestors of novelists George Orwell and Graham Greene: Slave owners The architect Sir George Gilbert Scott: A slave owner The Centre for the Study of the Legacies of British Slave-ownership at University College London (UCL) has a database of thousands of slave owners and estates, dating back to 1763

The ottoman/uslim empire shipped 18,000,000+ slaves to the middle east, while North African slavers setup a base under the ottoman flag on the Isle of Lundy, in the Bristol Channel. Toi raid Britain and European Coastlines as far as Iceland for Christian White Slaves around 6,000,000. Sold by the jewish markets in Venice, Baghdad with artisans sent to work in Tripoli ship yards. The majority of unskilled males, castrated and chained to an oar on a war galley until tipped over the side if they could not roe any more. Reparations, really???

I have relatives in Barbados. They arrived during WWII and stayed (as did many others) They're much better off than I am (in the UK) and their quality of life there is way better. Should I have to pay 'reparations' to them, or their government? My ancestors (on the other side) left Ireland during the Potato Famine. Another ancestor drowned off the coast off Africa during the fight against slavery. Who's paying my reparations?

Personally i think it should be the other way round, if you come from a country that had slaves you owe reputations to britain for all the money they missed out in banning slavery. We sailed the world enforcing this ban and that wasnt free, not to mention all the profit made off slaves that was missed out on. If the UK had to pay the US for assistance in ww2 i dont see why the UK cant demand money from those it saved
