Firstly, I would again like to thank Dr Kwon as he’s changed my game for the better,/forever, and I’ve stopped listening to all the ‘noise’ other golf ‘coaches’ who either don’t know, or can’t verbalise the wisdom he has 👏👏👏. One question I have, on watching all previous videos he has done I have ‘interpreted’ the backswing as not only what is described in these illustrations but also a bending of the left knee which tilts the pelvis towards the target so that when the downswing starts all I have to do is drop my arms down, rotate the body and push upwards with the left leg to generate the power, is this correct?? Keep up the great work 👍

Ever since I implemented Dr. Kwon's methods on my golf swing I managed to hit every club further and faster. I usually hit an 8 iron at 120 yards, now I hit 150 yards average without a forceful swing. And my drives now are much more powerful and further than ever. truly amazing. thank you for sharing this helps us golfers a lot

The veteran pro I go to at our range, who has told me previously that he considers Dr. Kwon to be a genius, told me just the other day that Dr. Kwon's illustration and explanation of the longer moment arm between the center of mass and the combined ground force arrow creating increased lateral torque and thus swing speed was a concept he had never before thought of in just those terms, and that he now thinks it is perhaps the key, number one element to focus on in his instruction. He showed me that there are times when I have erred by spinning too much with the right, trail hip, basically putting myself into the position of the second golfer that Dr. Kwon shows here.

I agree. Dr Kwon's illustration of the longer arm between the Force (F), and Center of Mass (COM) reminds me of a catapult with a longer arm. Longer arm, more torque, more velocity, whereas shorter arm is the opposite.

Interesting and if your swing is 100 percent accurate then it is correct for you. My take on the transitional move just before the top of my backswing ends is the opposite of yours. I simply press on an imaginary gas peddle with my trail foot that kicks my trail knee inwardly moving my lead hip to my lead side and out of my way so I can swing as fast as I wish to on any given shot. Cheers

Here is a sports dot that has yet to be connected. I play Ice Hockey goalie up here in Canada 30 years high level. Watch how a modern goalie moves in net, this is how we move. Everything laterally and back and forth is opposite foot pressure and its all a continuous motion. Due to my experience as a goalie and connecting these dots thanks to you guys I am using the tools I already have developed for decades on the ice. let me tell you! its insane how much better I got. I'm' essentially now just moving right to left in the goal crease up and down left and right power sliding using the skate edges and foot pressure along with this continuous motion to gather a release the stored energy without suddenly stopping and destroying your body. luv this Channel

To me, Dr Kwon's message is essentially, "lateral acceleration of the COM (Center of Mass), both clockwise (backswing), and counterclockwise (downswing) is the catalyst of torque". His illustrations of the two tour players really brought it home for me. Player A had significantly more torque, and you noticed the distance between his COM and the "force" was far greater than that of Player B. More torque, then "kick the ground" with the left foot, then sending bombs down range.

You put it very succinctly. It took me a while to wrap my head around the terms clockwise and counterclockwise because I was visualizing a vertical clock face, like a clock on the wall, and trying to figure out how the hips moved vertically. But of course, duh, I have to see the clock face as horizontal, laying flat on a table. Then the rotation is easy to visualize.

@Omnis2
@Omnis2 2 жыл бұрын
To maximally accelerate the club, you need to maximize torque. Maxing torque with a constant force requires the moment arm (or the "lever") to be as large as possible. The point of the step drills is to train your body to produce a large moment arm, as Dr. Kwon explains with the first 9-10 minutes of the video. Dr. Kwon goes on to explain that as you pivot in the late stages of the swing, this original moment arm shrinks. So, in order to keep accelerating the club at this stage, you have to apply a larger force in a perpendicular direction to keep the club path torque maximized. The leg kick applies this large force upward to keep the club accelerating through the bottom of the swing and into the ball. at 6:30 Brendan puts "Force Generation in Step Drill Action" on screen. The caption should say Torque Generation, not force.

So I understand the importance of lengthening the moment arm. What I would question is the amount of lateral motion of the pelvis in the backswing. Gears shows that from address to the transition most PGA tour pros have 1" to 1 1/2" . I would be curious as to how much lateral Dr. Kwon would recommend in the backswing and could excessive lateral in the backswing cause issues in the downswing .
@thomasfraser9072
@thomasfraser9072 2 жыл бұрын
@@mslu62 absolutely this is where the confusion come in. The fact is reverse pivot at the top of the downswing is too much lateral move and a GRF i don’t want or need as it shuts down my obliques muscles groups I have heard Dr Kwon say to some of his students it may feels like a reverse pivot to them ; but actually should not be a reverse pivot. With this in mind . And real Vs feel I want to identify only the real in my swing. Cheers

@@thomasfraser9072 The "feeling" of the reverse pivot is from the extension of the thoracic spine. It is a very powerful position to be in for sure. Dr. Kwon needs to be more specific when speaking of lengthening the moment arm specifically from address to the top of backswing. Could Dr. Kwon be confirming the teachings of Mike Austin whom taught getting the trail hip outside the trail foot in the backswing? When there is to much lateral motion of the pelvis in the backswing that can absolutely lead to a reverse pivot. I feel this is exaggerated or just plain bad advice . AMG advanced motion golf has some great videos on this subject and I feel these guys are not only specific but 100% correct. I respect the fact that he emphasizes drills to improve the dynamics of the pivot but like anything things get exaggerated or overcooked sometimes. Be better golf or Dr. Kwon has failed to answer my question. How much lateral motion of the pelvis should occur from address to the top of the backswing? Thanks Thomas Thanks Thomas

@@mslu62 you’re absolutely correct! At the beginning and through our this video he only talks and shows motion going both lateral and vertical. Under Newton Law of for every action there is an equal opposite reaction; and that an object traveling in a circle (the head of our golf club) must travel angularly along its axis point. So as you can see it is impossible to swing the golf club the way he shows in his graphic. The fact is that Dr a Kwon did not state specifically that In the golf there are two opposing GRFs at play and neither are going vertical or horizontal but both are going diagonal and opposite of the other crossing at the center of our body. When in this video we see arrows dynamically crossing from one foot to the other foot as he was demonstrating it visually shows what he said was incorrect. But his illustration of opposing GRF was 100 percent correct. Cheers 🥂⛳️

How do you know when you are doing the step drill wrong tho? Also with the step drill how long do you think it takes before they start to realize in your swing? Also not much is mentioned about tension, how loose or tight should you be and does it matter if you use a strong or weaker grip?

This is my guess to you questions: 1) I needed to watch and rewatch and then watch again the videos on the step drills. It is so important that they are being done correctly, or I believe they will mess you up. 2) I think it is different for every player on how long it takes for the step drills to become part of the subconscious mind. But for sure, it does take some time.

Hi Brendon. Dr Kwon has help my swing improve 100 percent this year so I applaud him for this. However at the beginning and through out this video DrKwon only talks and shows motion in the golf swing going both lateral and vertical. Correct? Well sadly this is wrong information Under Newton Law of for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction; and that an object traveling in a circle (the head of our golf club) must travel angularly along its axis point to the bottom of it inclined plane. Meaning specifically our golf swing cannot not swing horizontally and cannot swing vertically as in a typical drawing of a circle ⭕️ as this is or if it were flat on the ground. The golf swing is swung on a slanted plane creating a slanted circle with our body bent. Agree? So as you can see it is impossible to swing the golf club laterally and vertically the way he shows in his graphic. The fact is that Dr Kwon did not state specifically that In the golf there are two opposing GRFs at play and neither are going vertical or horizontal but both are going diagonal and opposite of the other crossing at the center of our pelvis. Although I admit this fact was vaguely being discuss towards the end of your video so I know he knows what I just wrote is science fact; not fiction. However suggesting to anyone to feel as if they are in a reverse pivot absolutely contradict the laws of physics when it come to an elite golf swing. I know he knows this because he said in his own videos that the reverse pivot it nor real in an elite golf swing. To Dr Kwon’s credit In this particular video we do see briefly arrows dynamically crossing Dr Kwon’s pelvic region with the shifting of one foot to the other foot due his marvelous stepping drills. Don’t we ? And so Dr Kwon stepping drills are the best in the business when done smoothly; repeatedly; and never taking a brake or breaking at the the transitional part between the backswing and downswing. When both the backswing and the downswing becomes one and the same; temporary slowing down our swing so the head of our golf clubs can make a sharp clockwise turn at the top of our swing. Think about that for a moment. So my question is: in your other videos did he graphically clarify and show that the their are actually two opposing ground force at play and at the some moment and time? And has he correctly name that the forces at play are neither horizontal nor vertical but uniquely diagonal and obliques? His drills are excellent; but his graphics as shown are incomplete. . Cheers 🥂on the 19⛳️

I feel like what Dr. Kwon is saying has already been discovered my Swing Catalyst, no? Aren’t Player A and Player B are just using their force differently? The slide at 2:34 is easily proven to be right or wrong by putting those players on the Swing Catalyst, then show me the pic of the 2 players with with their 3 forces under them, I don’t understand the hype. I am concerned that Dr Kwon is showing evidence for forces in 2 different swing methods without any evidence that one is better than the other though he obviously prefers Player A. Both are elite players. For decades, successful golfers have used a variety of swings. Teaching trends change almost like fashions without finding "the best method". The emphasis now seems to be on distance yet the tour pros are way behind long-drive experts. Having said this, I do believe that Dr Kwon's methods produce a much more natural, flowing swing, almost "old-fashioned"! Truth is, we can all achieve 80% of our power with just a short, wristy flick. Elite players can carry 250 yards on their knees!

Yes I thought the same thing. It's like he's confirming what I was taught in the 60's and 70's about the lower body dominance while at the same time confirming Ernest Jones' 'swing the clubhead'. I think, though, to varying degrees, all great players swing with some of this. The tour rhythm that seems to exist in about 85% of pros' is the rhythm he's showing. Nick Price, Jon Rahm and Webb Simpson excluded of course. lol At the end of the day, most all swings will be helped with a better sense of rhythm which is an essential quality of great swings no matter the tempo.
