Thank you for making a video about adventuring guilds that isn’t “don’t run them, they don’t make sense”. You’re a legend

If anyone is wondering if the patreon is worth it, it absolutely is. I don't make a ton of excess income, but Malcolm's patreon is super cheap and has fantastic content. It's especially great if you're like me and like getting good ideas from places and then extrapolating them to make them your own and fit your world better. That said, I've also just dragged and dropped his content into my world unchanged, and my players loved it. It's like $6 and you get tons of downloadable PDFs. Not endorsed, just genuinely love this creator.

I really enjoyed hearing your ideas for a guild, one of my long ongoing campaigns was one shots tied together through an adventuring guild. Now several years later the high level party created a new town and a new guild of their own. Then we started a new campaign set in the guild town working for the previous PCs who are the town council government. It’s been awesome creating a setting with the players input and creativity I could not have done by myself.

Man I gotta say it: When I started watching your videos I was a bit reluctant, I thought you were one of the many and I thought your voice was fake. I changed my mind on everything, you're awesome. Keep it up! Liking all your videos so far, very interesting and clear.

@@lapaludeumana Hey mate, I really appreciate you saying this! I know my content won't be for everyone, but it's great to hear that it's grown on you over time. I've had that with a few channels myself, where initially I've seen their clips and Shorts and not been impressed, but then over time something clicks and I find myself actively seeking out their content! Hope you keep finding the videos useful 👊

I love this. I’m a new DM and I see this as a small world building exercise that I could bake into Phandelver with Gundren Rockseeker as the Guild Master.
@Piqipeg6 ай бұрын
I had Gundren be a client of the guild, hireing the PCs to help him find the mine. I also made (but never ran) a pre-adventure where you escort Gundren to find a vital clue to the mine (the old map of the mine) in an old abandoned monastery.

GREAT suggestions throughout this vid. Dare I say... back in the day I played a LOT of Traveller. The Guild idea reminds me of Traveller's Aid Society, and the Scout Service which never entirely retired Scouts so much as 'Once a Scout, always a Scout' gave inactive Scouts a place to kick back after a long jump, or find jobs.

Ive only recently started to get serious about DMing and world building. Finding your channel has been a massive help. Really enjoying going through your content man.

I love a good Adventurer's Guild or Monster Hunter Guild. Great for side quests, to sneak plot clues in, social encounters, potential allies for later bigger scenarios, and of course money! My next guild "The Golden Pursuit" will be a travelling tavern/air-ship. Now they have access as they travel through the campaign and I only have to learn a couple names and goofy accents!

Our original DM made one by accident because we got really attached to the bartender in the Inn, so when I took over it was really fun to use it to flesh out the whole town and the kobold nest nearby. (There's a peace and trading partnership that my players negotiated between them both).

I like the idea, it would be cool to have some craftsmen show up after completing some bounties, magic item peddlers, blacksmiths, and potion vendors just show up, seeing that the guild is getting lively with people that would by their wares.

I'm running an Adventurer's Guild game right now. It's going great. I've got a rival apprentice team, another apprentice team that was defeated and has gone missing (to rats, even). There several journeyman veterans, a few master heroes, and a retired world-saving legend Guildmaster. Plus a lovable house spirit who keeps the guildhall clean and repaired. This is probably the most named and statted out NPCs I've ever had this early on in a game, but I can already tell it's paying off in making the world feel more populated.

Rivaling adventure guilds could also be a fun adventure. Or if that gets to be too much, rivaling adventure parties within the guild (borrowing from Call of the Netherdeep).

Do you think an adventures guild would fit in the Riftwater setting? Perhaps as a neutral choice or early choice for players so they don’t feel pressured to pick a side in the war. It could even be based out of drunkard’s perch to fit the falling guild theme as it could have once been based in Terrin before the Creator Spawn wiped the town out leading to the guild’s downfall

Adventurer Guilds are legally essential for adventurers. Just like other Guilds, they provide some protection and perks to members, such as the right to ply their trade within a territory, access to resources, hirelings, etc. Unlike other guilds, however, Adventurers are legally considered nothing more than vagrants, marauders, roamers and vigilantes, unless they can prove the relevant Guild backing. As an adventurer, not being in a Guild not only prohibits you from legally taking jobs but can have you arrested or exiled for no crime other than just being there. Especially if you are armed or wear any armour beyond a simple hunter's leather jacket. Competing Guilds would have some level of agreement of conduct when adventurers compete for the same dungeon delve. But if an adventurer group without any Guild affiliation at all is encountered, the competition can become lethal. Unguilded adventurers have no legal protection of any sort, especially not outside the walls of the cities, because most unguilded adventurers are themselves cutthroats, waylayers and other such outlaws. If they weren't criminals, they would have no reason to not join a legitimate Guild.
