What would you recommend for self employed people who are paid inconsistently?

For self employed (I've been there), it's even more important to build up an emergency fund. Other than that, getting a handle on all your monthly expenses is super important, so you know what's coming out and when and you know what to cut if things get tight. Don't beat yourself up with savings rates, it will be up and down month to month, and that's ok!
