It is bloody MENTAL that we can print something like this in ONE part now. Amazing work and kitbash, I thought I saw a few of my Dark Gods bits in the thumbnail haha! Well done mate - love it.

Awesome 3D kitbash! Blender is a great (free) program for this sorta thing-- it's easier to move, rotate, and scale parts in there imho.
@luketfer8 ай бұрын
Only thing I would suggest is with the self-made component, maybe applying subdivision modifier, since you can see the low amount of polys come out in the 3D print and setting it to maybe 2 or 3 subdivisions (2 would probably be enough to make it look smoother) would give a lot smoother of a surface and then using the 'Mean crease' to make it conform to those edges. Though later on you stick stuff ontop of it, which hides the low poly look nicely. The other thing to look out for when digital kitbashing using this method is that you *might* end up with unintentional holes inside the object, which means it will have uncured resin sitting in it which, later down the line, will expand as it gives off fumes and cause the model to crack, spilling uncured resin everywhere. Remember folks you don't want random 'pockets' inside parts of your model model for this exact reason and with anything large you *might* want to put a drain hole in it if you're not making it 100% solid (to save on resin printing costs). Edit: Watching the video, those arm connector joints are domes with a hollow inside, there is a decent chance these could accidentally trap uncured resin inside the model, the way to test this is get a small drill and drill a little hole into those connectors and see if Resin comes out.

Does chitubox have a function to combine parts into one STL or did you use another program such as blender?

I had no idea you could do this!!! Youve made me so excited to try kitbashing now! I also think printing the panneling ans gluing on is better. Gives it a real 3D looking finish.

Im still learnin bout this but Microsofts 3D builder, free program, from what ive been workin with it seems it CAN (unsure if just always) take unsupported parts from a single model and put them together. Then from there you can export it as a single part.
@arkredeemer8 ай бұрын
I have been tinkering with it too, kitbashing some custom Imperial Guard stuff together. It has an awesome Merge feature for making the parts join together, and they print really well when you support them in the slicer!

This would be a really fun method to make looted vehicles! You can get a "clean" 3D model of some cool looking tank or spaceship and just slap orky bits all over it

I will point out he didn't show *the* most tedious part of making a 3D print design (which is something a lot of people leave out of their videos because it's not interesting to watch)...doing the supports. Since you can't rely on the auto-supports to always pick up islands and the like, meaning you, usually, have to put down autosupports, slice the model, save the slice, then load the slice into UVtools, look for any large unsupported islands the auto-supports missed (and it WILL miss some), anything above like 4-5 pixels might need a support on it...maybe...it's one of those things where you sort of learn what does and doesn't need supports as you go, anything 10 or bigger DEFINITELY needs a support on it. So you go to the first layer that has an island on it. Then you need to go back into the slicing software (I hope you kept it open!), back to the layer in question and play 'hunt the island' for a while to see where on that layer in slice the unsupported island is located (usually having to try to orientating your view to match UV tools, which can be tricky). Repeat the process for the next big island until all of them are supported. Sometimes you need to move the slice back and forth to really see the Island grow and go "oh, that's where it is!". There's a reason why good supports that are easy to remove but don't give any failures are a skill most of the bigger 3D STL makers will actually *pay* someone they know is good at it to do it for them.
@JohnHensman-f1q8 ай бұрын
There was another video when Jon mentioned the auto supports in Chichu box and how much they have improved in recent updates. He said that he doesn't do his own supports as it is beyond his ability.
@luketfer8 ай бұрын
@@JohnHensman-f1q I think doing ALL the supports yourself is a skill which takes a lot of trial and error but using autosupports, UV tools and the like doesn't take a lot of skill, it's just tedious. As mentioned there will be times when autosupports will miss islands, sometimes big islands, so it's worth running through UVtools just to double check that everything is supported that's bigger then 4-5 pixels.

As he said in the video it's a mishmash of parts bought from other creators, save for the crescent. You can find something similar by searching "Kromlech Krumpanaut".

Cool thing! Be careful about selling kitbashed stuff. Some, if not most, artists do no allow the use of their art for arrangements like this, if you use them commercially.
