Hey good people, thanks for dropping in - in this video I walk you through a quick digital kitbash of this Heavy Vault Mech from Geargutz as I alter and fit an alternate head, and hopefully demonstrate that bashing bits digitally is as easy or as difficult as you want it to be! The hill of skill required to climb here is not very high at all, so don't be afraid to try - it can be seriously rewarding stuff.

7:14, If you want to print bashed models hollow, you can use blender's remesh modifier to turn them into one mesh. It's honestly really easy, I cant do anything in blender and I was able to figure it out in less than 5 minutes.

For us Mac and Linux users, everything you demonstrated there I guess we could do in Tinkercad. It's not the most powerful tool in the world, but if you've never made so much as a cube, you can still use Tinkercad. Except I don't think it has a planar split/cut tool, so for that you jump through the small hoop of making two copies of an object and using a cube to cut it twice.
@OnceinaSixSide
@OnceinaSixSide Жыл бұрын
There's also Lychee slicer now too which recently added a planar slice tool!
@NoobixCube
@NoobixCube Жыл бұрын
@@OnceinaSixSide Oh cool. I use Lychee and I haven't paid any attention to the new features they've added. I mainly switched to Lychee because the community resin and printer profiles, while they overexpose a little, are reliable. That, and when a model isn't presupported, Lychee's auto supports do a good enough job when I make them dense but light. I've only used auto-supports for Battletech miniatures, but the only failures I've had were temperature related as I printed overnight. I still _check_ Lychee's work and sometimes add one or two more supports, but generally, they're good enough.

Happy to hear you got some value out of it! I learned from one of the other commenters that there's a Merge function in the Edit tab of 3D builder that actually deals with the overlapping geometry, so if you want to hollow something you've kitbashed group your models then merge them and it should be okay - just be sure to double check in your slicer that everything is fine.
