It's no secret that I have been trying to eat more healthy so I wanted to try to eat like plant based tennis champion Novak Djokovic for a day and wow... it wasnt a huge change for me, but the little changes that were there were pretty great. It was fun to try something entirely different and see how it felt.
This is the best information I could find about what Novac eats. I did my best to find accurate information, but I can not guarantee this is 100% his daily diet.

20 years ago when i first went vegan, i subscribed to a magazine (veg?) that featured frequent articles about vegan olympians. i aim for a high protein diet (tofu, beans) and am gluten free because that seems to work for me. but i'd love to see what VGF olympians are eating these days. i wonder whether they're going for what novak does with the easily digestible micronutrients, or do they go for more protein like i do (i'm pretty active but have a desk job)? thanks for doing this, sir!! @@SauceStache

I'm currently doing a pretty successful food experiment as well: I let ChatGPT design me (vegan) food plans with recipes for the next day. I give it all the ingredients I have including amounts and best before dates where available and tell it the current date and that it should prioritize fresh fruits and vegetables and ingredients where the best before is in the past or near future. It works pretty well. Sometimes it makes some errors, like for tomorrow it gave me way too big portion sizes for one person, but after telling it so, it corrected the recipes. Today I had some popped amaranth with walnuts, raspberries and chocolate soy milk for breakfast, a chickpea curry with rice for lunch and some pretzel stick filled with mustard, fried vegan bacon cubes, onion, tomato and salad for dinner. Tomorrow I'll have a raspberry-oat smoothie for breakfast, a risotto salad for lunch and potato pancakes with apple sauce for dinner. Might be an idea for a video - you can steal it if you like.

I'm also not a fan of rabbit food style salads - but I do quite like grain or carb based salads like tabouli or bean salads. Not a great deal of protein as everything was either super carby or super fatty - I'm sure he ends with enough by virtue of just eating a ton of calories but if you aren't eating 3-4k cals this is probably going to fall on the lower side.

Pasta and oatmeal are pretty good sources of protein, plus the nut butter and seeds. Still I’d reckon there’s no more than 30g of protein all told. Surprisingly little. I have a suspicion that we have been mislead about how much protein we really need on a daily basis. I mean, it’s not like there’s a multi billion dollar industry out there with a vested interest in push protein on us, is there…..
@raithneach
@raithneach 5 ай бұрын
30g is way too low though. Theres plenty of good quality research our there on protein requirements, and it has nothing to do with industry or profit. Christopher Gardener is a huge proponent of a plant forward, wholefood diet and without protein supplements, and even he recommends to aim for the RDA of protein. Some experts like Stuart Philip's would argue a higher amount is needed. Bearing in mind our absorption capacity lowers as we get older, right at the same time we may experiene loss of muscle mass and a loss of bone mass. The greatest body of evidence on protein restrictive diets is based in animals, there isnt good human data to support diets low in protein.@@philiptaylor7902
@Ermude10
@Ermude10 5 ай бұрын
@@philiptaylor7902Oats, pasta and grains do contain a lot of protein, but it's not a lot from a per calorie POV. Nuts even less so. So while they are good and should be accounted for, that should ideally not be the main source of protein. For someone like Djokovic, he should be getting around 1.2 grams per kilo of body weight if he wants to be able to maintain or increase muscle mass. For normal people who don't work out a lot, 0.8 is more than enough. So if you weigh 80kg, that's about 64g. And no need to fret more if you're plant-based, as long as you eat varied. Christopher Gardner is a nutrition science professor at Stanford and has a lot of good content on protein, and Simon Hill has a good podcast where he invites leading scientists to talk about nutrition if you're interested.

@@kimclark399You're welcome to your opinions but what I'd assume the OP of this thread meant was that they hope that this video is ONLY about the FOOD. I'm not here for random health crap, I'm here to learn how to cook interesting vegan meals, as I am a vegan for animals not plant-based for health.

Oats have no taste Imho no matter what's in them, tried some the other day after not eating any for like 40 years, nope took 2 bites and threw it away. I couldn't eat that stuff he does.

ugh... 1 I lost 100 pounds using Noom. I've been dieting, exercising, dieting... trying everything I could to lose weight over the last 25 years but the "Scam" is the thing that finally changed my life. How is it a scam exactly... I would LOVE to hear this.

Interesting diet, not too far removed from my own except for the complete lack of protein. It's enough for me call Novak Djokovic a liar, his body simply wouldn't recover optimally from HIS very active lifestyle on such a small amount.

Your body needs protein! It's how we evolved. Educate yourself on the essential amino acids that our body cannot manufacture and combine those from different foods. Not saying you have to get them from meat if you do a little research and come up with a diet is that nutritious. You can survive on just about any diet for awhile but eventually you will put your health at risk if it doesn't give your body what it needs to thrive, not just survive. We are too easily influenced by everything new that comes along with some slick marketing by someone famous .

@lauraschwartz1077

@@SauceStache Hey Sauce ! wasn't expecting you to respond .Nice to know you read the comments. Depending on your goals, 80 gms of quality protein up to 150 if you are trying to build muscle. By quality I mean foods containing all your essential amino acids. protein is just the name of the package that contains a few or high amounts of them. Just about every food source contains protein . An athlete burning many calories a day could obtain enough protein by the sheer volume of food he eats, even if no particular food contains a large amount. Protein is necessary for just about every function in the body for such as tissue repair, for hair, skin, bone, blood production (hemoglobin to carry oxygen), hormones , everything !
