I think Virgin Cruises might be my favorite ship to sail! I love the fact that the food is excellent and complimentary. I also love the vibrant nightlife. I'm not really a show attender nor want any day activities, so it seems like a great match for me (even though I wish they'd improve their entertainment quality, atm, it seems corny). I'd prefer going on excursions, the spa, or lounging around during the daytime. I can't imagine doing all that without screaming kids nearby, it would be luxury! LOL! I think they should have a drink package as well and maybe do business with Starlink. I've heard great reviews from ships using it. I really appreciate your reviews and I'm sorry you had your luggage lost on your recent sailing. Most of your cruise's misfortune centered around their mishandling and I think they should have compensated you much better than they did. Your experience makes me want to carry my luggage to my room.

Decent work J. Never really considered a Virgin cruise. And quite frankly, still haven't. From what I have seen through your eyes/lens, it isn't for me. I'll stick to cruise lines with the kids. Even though I have none. I'm not an old fart, but I do have my limits when it comes to themes and overall feel of the cruise. I like it to be somewhat tame, but not boring. Royal and Carnival to meet those needs easily. Good reporting though. Keep it up. Take it easy.

Great review! We went on VV in September and for the most part had a great time. I did sense some arrogance (within the crew) towards us and that made it somewhat of a bummer. Also what you experienced with the leaky vent and door handle is a good example when they made it seem like your fault. Very inappropriate and not customer friendly. Overall, I hope they make it, but I have heard rumors that MSC may take them over. Time will tell. See you on the Celebration over Thanksgiving!!

I have no desire to go on Virgin after seeing reviews. I loved the idea of having an 18+ cruise line with premium offerings. But after seeing reviews, I’m not a fan of the cabin setup, the food is not really of my interest (seems to be a ton of healthy, vegan/veggie focused meals which isn’t me) and I’m not into taking exercise classes on a cruise. I like some of the traditional aspects of cruising and the ships seem super cold and trying too hard for that super high price

Umm Theres like 20+ restaurants and only one is partially vegetarian lol Sooo no its not all healthy stuff. Theres a big variety in food to fit every taste. From vegan to fast food to italian to tacos to pizza etc. The exercises are optional. Idk if you ever cruised before but they all have gyms and excercise related things on the itinerary lol You should watch more vlogs cause you got most of that wrong.

I made a comment on a previous video of yours addressing things breaking down on a ship that's barely two years old and you mentioned that exact thing on this video and that helped me verbalize the exact concern I had when I heard that they intentionally used people from outside the cruise industry from building to staffing with the intention to break the mold if you would but at the very least for design and construction people with experience in this know how to build the ships to last, I think Virgin tried to build these ships to impress without really putting too much thought into longevity and I fear that will come to bite them in the butt in the next 3 to 5 years when all the fancy gadgets and technology start to break down.

We've been on (4) times (bumped into you a couple weeks ago actually!). Your overall impression is spot on...really spot on. They've improved in pretty much any avenue they've gotten complaints on - day time entertainment a year ago was down right pathetic, now I'd say its almost on par with everyone else, they added storage, etc. Customer Service - specifically Sailor Services related customer service, is spotty - we had to argue with them over a $7 erroneous tax charge, even though we were Rockstars (3rd time - in other words they make plenty off us). Employees seem so much happier than any other cruise ship we've been on from the other big 3, and you didn't mention it, but the allowed self expression makes the staff more memorable, which leads to better relationships overall. Can't wait to do some longer itineraries with them.

I just finished my 3rd cruise with RC, and loved every minute of it. And it was my first cruise with my girlfriend. We are DINKs (Dual Income No Kids). And we have no plans for kids, and she really doesn't like kids at ALL lol. And we would love to do a kids free cruise and your videos are good information on Virgin. Wish this could be a cruise for me but it won't for now. No drink package option is bad for me as wife and I drink, bad costumer service? No I've had good costumer service @ NCL / Royal. Lack of day time entertainment seems bad, I like a good band I can go check for example. Party jumping in the pool, very HS like, not wild or special for me. The night entertainment looks silly. Well too bad because seems food is great and food is important to me in a cruise. But seems everything else is not a fit.

I do absolutely agree that Virgin is a great deal. My wife and I had a bad experience with them in September. I felt like the week we were on Scarlet Lady it was being run by amateurs. There were a lot of great crew members on board but it also seemed like there were quite a few that simply weren’t trained very well. Our customer service experience was awful. They simply weren’t competent.

I cannot agree with you about the crew boarding and during my cruise with Virgin in September 2022. They had their own Terminal and were the BEST in helping out disabled customers to get onboard and had no problem with the room or services. This however is the ONLY good thing about this cruise line. We were EXTREMELY disappointed in every other aspect of this "CHEAP IMITATION" of a reputable "CRUISE" It was way OVERPRICED, (Princess "Mexican Riviera" 10 days with all its costs was only ONE HALF or LESS than what we paid for this poor excuse, five (5) day cruise. The entertainment was so low grade even for an LGPTQ member, it's a complete turn off, catering to middle-aged couples with no idea of GOOD quality shows, etc. This however was PALE in comparison to the standard of food and restaurants available onboard. As a seasoned traveler (18 Cruises and counting) we found that 50% of expectations on "REPUTABLE" cruises are the food and drink options. VIRGIN CRUISES FAILED MISERABLY IN their quality of food supplied, served in the restaurants, particularly the "JOKE" of an authentic KOREAN BBQ, food so cheap and sparce (thin sliced bacon would you believe), other Specialty Restaurants no better, (COLD LOBSTER!!!), Italian BLAND PASTA, absolutely vile "MISO SOUP" so fishy had to trash it upon smell???? This is by far the WORSED cruise we have ever experienced, bar none. When you say, "NOT FOR EVERYONE" you should say "NOT ANYONE, EVER" Please to go back to the rule book for travelers. NEVER, NEVER pay good money for CHEAP DISGUTING FOOD AND ENTERTAINMENT, EVER. Anyone who appreciate the good things in life as they age should read this and be aware of such gross PITFALLS......

I can't speak about the other execs, but Tom McAlpin, CEO of VV, was formerly the CFO of Disney Cruise Line and the president of World Cruises....so he obviously has some experience with at least the financial end of cruising. I got off 14 nights on the Valiant Lady a few days ago...it was a wonderful cruise. I'm not saying that there were no issues, but they were few and minor. I'm a lot older and probably more conservative than their target. You are correct that the wifi in the Med area was crap, but at least I could check email at no charge. We had at least 2 "extra" entertainers on board for the longer cruise as well as increased choices in dining "special of the day" items. Each of the entertainers did at least 2 shows. My travel companion has a theatre background, and as you mentioned, she couldn't turn off her critiques, some of which were very accurate. For example, the gymnasts in Dual Reality are amazing gymnasts, but they could benefit from an acting and/or stage combat coach. We were also experiencing a change-over in some entertainers and it was obvious that those with contracts ending were A LOT better than the new ones coming on. No, VV isn't perfect....but neither was DCL at the start. As you said, there have been many changes since they started sailing just over a year ago. I believe that they will continue to incorporate customer feedback as they evolve. I actually like the "bar tab" feature a lot more than the typical "drink package" because it works whether you are a rather light drinker or a heavy one. As a light drinker, it makes no sense for me to purchase a drink package at $80-$129 per day + gratuity, so I get no discount on my drinks. In contrast, on VV I can purchase a bar tab and share it with anyone I wish--my cabin mate, my new best friends, or even purchase a bottle of something from a bar to take home. That $300 purchase came with a $100 bonus, which was essentially 25% off the posted prices, which are the full price--no gratuities added. When the ship is not in international waters, taxes are added. Someone who drinks more can purchase as many "bar tabs" as they wish. The addition of the "Deep Blue Extras" matching program for those with loyalty on other lines was another nice addition--$10 per day in the Grounds Club, one bag of laundry, a cocktail party, a bottle of Moet, etc. just for sending electronic proof of my status on another line! They have not announced how long this matching program will last; for now it is until the end of 2022. There's no perfect line for everyone, and each of us should explore and find what works for us at our stage of life. For now...I have more cruises booked on VV. The good, for me, far outweighs the few problems.

Thanks for the information and great detail. I have wanted to sail Virgin since hearing about them. My reluctance has been two-fold. One, I am not a fan of their US itinerates. I think they need better destinations and more options to just have sea days to enjoy the ships. Second, I am in my 50's and I had heard about the swinging and younger crowd which also made me hesitant. I am sure that I will eventually experience Virgin but your review has helped tremendously.

I just got off the Carnival Liberty. It was a 3 night shorty. There was one incident that was quickly contained and everybody stayed cool during the comedian show. We had a great time. The Liberty is an old ship that on the surface is very well maintained. BUT ... I have to say that the ship has a problem with bad air. On one part of the ship you might smell a backed up toilet odor or a chemical smell, and the one that bothered me the most was the smell of a rancid dish rag sometimes in the cabin and especially by the bars.

The point that you made about not needing to reinvent the wheel just to improve on it is where I agree with you most in your critique of Virgin and why I personally am not planning to take another virgin Cruise. I feel like they go out of their way to insult people who are used to cruising on other ships in the way that they act like their ideas are superior, when in fact they are not. I really don't like the fact that they refuse to have a bow camera and related information sent to their TV screens in the passengers rooms. This makes it so that an inside passenger has to go outside, which is not necessarily close to where they are. just to see if the Sun is out or if it's raining. I also really dislike the fact that there was no good view on the ship of what the view is in front of the ship whereas when they were backing up the views that they gave you are very good. Regarding the raunchy part that you mentioned. I have some concerns on how that affects certain crew members especially the one that I know that works on one of the virgin ships who has had an issue with being raunchy in the past and that's I think why he's no longer with the other cruise ship company. I am personally not a fan of the extra huge sized cruise ships, that the major companies are creating. so I am very opinionated on what I like and don't like and I'm pretty sure, as I said at the beginning of this post, that I will not be going on another virgin ship.

I (straight guy) went on the ship and enjoyed it. Sure, there were some gay/lesbian individuals, but it wasn't over the top and being excessively thrown in my face. I was also hit on a few times, but after nicely declining, we both laughed and went on with out day. The one thing I will say is that during nearly all of the activities and events the cast would give sexual and suggestive one-liners here and there, some would even make sexual gestures, but that's about as far as it went. So if you can deal with those little things, you'll be fine. If those little things bother you or get under your skin, then you'd likely want to steer clear of Virgin.

Very informative review. I’m a rather newbie with only 6 cruises under my belt. The first was with NCL in 2013 on the Gem and the others with RCCL on both Quantum and Oasis class ships. I’m a middle aged single gay man. My experience with NCL was not good. The ship was not up to par, the service was poor and the entertainment was mediocre at best. I absolutely loved the entertainment/shows on RCCL and service was definitely better than NCL. I’m very interested in cruising with Virgin with the information you’ve given. Thanks Jay.

I think they got the dining and fitness right but big miss for deck space / swimming and entertainment. If all I wanted to do was exercise and eat then great choice but otherwise looks extremely boring to me. I need more for the $$. So many great new ships to try, Virgin needs to rethink its different for the sake of different stance and include better entertainment and use of deck space. That net is ridiculous and annoying when they could have added an actual swimming pool or entertainment venue.
