THIS IS HOW WE FIXED THE JERKING & SHUDDERING ON OUR JEEP PATRIOT EASY! WAS NOT A TRANSMISSION ISSUE
If your Jeep Patriot is Jerking And shuddering while driving! You may have some bad spark plugs! This is what this video is about! Just our result after changing the spark plugs!
Changing the spark plugs is quite simple!
1- disconnect negative battery terminal
2- disconnect coil connectors
3- loosen and remove coils
4- remove spark plugs!
And re install in reverse!
It’s really easy to do and it’s very inexpensive compared to replacing a transmission and still having the same issues!

I wanna let you guys know I had this shutter issue as well at 100k. It turned out to be the ignition coils and the crankshaft position sensor! Ensure to change those out at that time as well to save you a lot of headache both are very easy to replace, and now I also get extremely great gas mileage.

My 2015 Jeep Patriot seems like the transmission is slipping, could it really be that easy? I just just edited this post to tell you. Dude! you just saved me a lot of money!! I changed the plugs by the book torque specs and everything and my Jeep Patriot sound and feels like a new vehicle!! Not kidding!! It's quieter runs smoother and I get better gas mileage and the slipping and bumping is completely gone! I even thought I had a wheel bearing going and I can't hear that either! I used OEM plugs NGK-ZFR5F-11 gap 0.043 torqued to 20 ft-lbs. Unbelievable! Thanks dude!

Dude, Thank You so much for this video !!! I too, was having the same exact issues. I had a couple people tell me that they thought it was the transmission, I had my little doubts but didn't know. I took it to the jeep dealership and they said it was the transmission, if it was anything else it would show the problem lights on the dash. I had to do something because i only had 5000 miles left on the warranty. So they put a new/used transmission in. This was doing the same thing but not as bad but getting worse. So I took it back, they said the same thing but wanted to wait till it got worse so they could get a better reading on it. So I was on here searching for radio problems and i happened to see this. So I decided to do as instructed and replaced the plugs and BOOM !!, that done the trick !! Its been a couple months now and still no problems at all ! Meanwhile, Lol, I have a new transmission with a 36000 mile on it ! I called the dealership and told them and they couldn't believe it, Lol. So again, Thank You for this video !!

Adding my voice to the chorus here - I installed NGK ZFR5F-11 (part number 2262 on some websites) spark plugs in my 2016 Jeep Patriot and it fixed the weird accelerating from a dead stop issue and the shuddering feeling at certain RPMs.

This just happened to be last week when pulling an empty utility trailer. When the RPM dropped below 3500 it started bucking, so I had to downshift to 4th gear to get the revs up over 4k. I made it home and was talking to a buddy that does mechanic work and he said it sounded like the torque converter was acting up. It kinda made sense, but what I didn't tell him was if I got the revs up it was okay. I can't wait to tell him about this. Since I took the trailer off I'm no longer having the issue but I'll be changing my plugs really soon regardless. I'm up around 88,000kms on the odometer and though I bought it used with 25k on it, I doubt the previous owner changed them either. This is good news. Thanks man! BTW...clunking in the front end. Steering is fine. Replaces the lower control arms, sway bar bushings and sway bar links and still clunking when I go over even little bumps. Any suggestions?

Ive had this same issue after a drive from Southern California to Ohio two years ago. I have changed the air filter, spark plugs and used octane booster to clean the injectors and nothing helped. I was about to change the fuel pump and then flush the trans as a last resort but now I may just try the plugs one more time with better plugs and hope for the best. Thanks

heyy there. we hope you are doing well. I am curious to know if replacing the spark plugs fixed your problem... keep in mind you may also want to change your ignition coils to be 100% sure that everything is in good working condition.. because a faulty coil can still show misfire and jerking etc

Are you sure that you have a CVT transmission in your 2016 Jeep Patriot? I have a 2014, the first year for the 6-speed automatic transmission. The 2013 Jeep Patriot was the last year for the CVT transmission in the Jeep Patriot.

Hey thank you so much for watching and doing research. Be sure to have a professional check your engine mounts or transmission mounts… these worn out mounts could cause vibrations while in gear.. but when it’s in park and you’re stopped it is much milder and not noticeable until you start to put it in gear ⚙️

Very auto-novice female here. Just bought a 2010 Patriot and mine only slightly shudders down when braking to a stop. I am wondering if mine will be fixed by spark plug change too. I am very worried it is a case of hidden transmission problem. Mine is CVT also and most ppl in the comments section say their shudder is in accelerating. Mine is only when braking close to almost stopping. Otherwise this car drives super smooth no issues. First of all thank you for doing research and watching videos to learn about your problems. Second. If it happens when coming to a stop. It could be fixed with spark plugs. And without a proper diagnosis it's very hard to tell. But we suggest making sure your ignition coils and spark plugs are new that will solve lots of issues

That’s a good question… I would suggest a few things. Worn out alternators, belts and idler pulleys usually whine when the engine is started. Power steering pump could be one. And last it could be your transmission is worn out or low on trans fluid..

The spark plugs on these things go bad every 30k miles but really I would change them every 20k if I don’t do mine that often it looses acceleration idles roughs and gets shitty mileage it seems like also the default gap for plugs is .044 when I changed mine after 30k it was .067 about so yah not joke
