I worked through my emotions. I am pretty sure I affirmed too but mainly I sat with the feelings, fears, insecurities and worked through them instead of suppressing them.

why did you not stay together in the end? did you not really want him anymore? did he stay changed longterm?

We were together for a couple of years but at some point I had the chance to study abroad and I moved on from the relationship so I broke up with him. And yes, he stayed changed long term. When I came back we stayed friends and I even met someone he was seeing and she told me that he had told her that I had made him a better man.

I'm still having a hard time to fully believe that it's possible for men to overcome their womanizing and anti-monogamy tendencies because it's like an addiction... it's hard to believe it can change that drastically and for good. Since I'm dealing with someone since years (with periods of no contact in between) who has commitment issues. Also he temporarily committed to a woman in the time we were apart but then said he only agreed to it because she was pushing for a relationship . I think my fear is that even if he would decide to commit I could not trust for him to "stick with it" or be faithful because of "his nature" and don't want to be fooled. So it's great to have an example of someone who really decided to change more or less overnight and then actually did follow through :)
