The first 3 months of waiting to go to court for what helped me get 14 years clean so far was spent in a prison unit with about a 50 50 mix of people coming out of the state hospital and death row convicts who had won an appeal who were taken off death row. What some could do with just a number 2 pencil was mind blowing. Hand them a photograph and a few days later you'd have a B/W photograph copy any size you wanted. Then there was the picture frame made from bags like chips would come in. The tattoo work I saw over my 16 months and 9 camps, prisons, was better than anything I've seen on any show and done with the most basic things like the ink made from the soot of melted burnt game pieces or toner ink borrowed from a printer lol.The people I met facing the needle completely changed who I am and for the better but that's a book for another day. @@davidpawson7393 That's amazing. Sometimes I seriously think that a sentence would be good for me in terms of sobriety. Whether an addict or not, there is so much wasted potential with inmates and most of it is a result of a harsh legal system or a very dark childhood and personal life (although not always the case). Even among people that truly deserve to be there, there are a lot of artworks that will never be seen, a lot of books that will never be read, and a lot of talent and humanity tossed to the wayside. On the other hand, it's better than the streets and worlds better than addiction. As long as you have a free date, there's always hope. Love that you got sober, especially for so long bro. 14 years to me is insane. Addiction is a piece of shit, I'm glad you made it through. RIP indeed to all those who've been senselessly lost to alcoholism, the opioid epidemic, and everything else.

It's honestly a relief to hear about a prolific liar/conman who didn't choose to murder his entire family when his web of lies came crashing down. I'm not saying Mark was a good guy - not murdering your family is the lowest possible bar - but true crime KZbin is full of videos about Chandler Halderson and Anthony Todt etc. This video was a breath of fresh air! I hope Mark really has turned his life around, and I hope his victims recovered financially and emotionally. I also hope his ex wife and kids are doing well and were able to rebuild their lives ❤

Nothing to lose and a desperate need for something, anything to be ok for even a moment and exactly zero cushion to withstand further misery even momentarily to try to improve your life through legitimate means does that to ya. It takes luck and hard work to get out of that hole and improve things in a way that isn't lies. That will likely take outside help from someone you manage to not push away just long enough for them to be willing to help you and then go through with it not based on lies. And of course mostly just your own hard work. But the change in life circumstances through luck, happenstance, and your own efforts is really the biggest contributor.

Lying to get the pilots names were genius esp back in the day where there’s no internet. What irks me is that usually the women who got the boob jobs, lived glamorous and put up with infidelity only leave when the moneys gone. I think they know their husbands are shady but love the life which makes them complicit.

He's quite the strange one, given his experise in investnent fraud, and ability to convince his cash cows that their investments are secure and making money. The stress of juggling all the clients he used, and lies he had to maintain woudnt be worth the millions, of others people's money, that he spent like a rockstar. Then, when it all falls down on him, he makes moves to avoid his suicide by faking his death, to then actually try to do it before facing prison time and ultimate failure. The man had the social skills and education to do great things, even in the realm of imvestment advisment and strategy, but he chose a quicker path that eventually led to his demise. Was the exciting life he seemed to lead worth it in the end? I suppose he is still here figuring that out. I do wonder if he'll choose to do it all over again?

It's sad to see how easily a particular kind of person can turn into such a destructive fraud, and then ,seemingly, can't fathom that he could have a good life without destructive crime dealings, trying to get out of all his problems by the same illegal means he got into them. It is, however, rather joyous to see systems work the way they should and cause a smooth operator to look increasingly less smoothe. With his broken spine and pill addiction, you wonder what, if anything would change such a person, how delusional he'd be about his own behavior and what goes into someone becoming like this. Does it really go back to his abusive father, or is that a lie too?

I was expecting the case of police brutality to be another one of Mark's lies. Kind of funny that, in the middle of this story about a greedy, pathological liar, there's another story of false arrest, police brutality, possible child endangerment, harassment and failed bribery of a civilian, and a begrudgingly paid restitution by a corrupt department. Goes to show that even in a story about someone like Mark Schrenker, the cops won't hesitate to play the villains

I've known someone that was as a prolific liar as this person. Thankfully they weren't otherwise as morally bankrupt. He would tell stories about stuff and I would try to figure out why he thought making up a lie seemed like a better option. I mean, I've known him since he was 5 (and I was 19) so it isn't like there is much history before we met. I've finally just had to learn to accept who he is and just take everything he says, no matter how trivial it seems, with the proverbial grain of salt. I've now known him for ~34 years and is thankfully a pretty good person with this one exception.
