This Is How You DON'T Play Assassin's Creed Origins (0utsyder Edition)

The conclusion of the Layla Saga in the TIHYDP Assassin's Creed series starts with the very beginning. Can 2017 DSP lead Begek of Renton through his quest of revenge?
I started this I think back after TIHYDP AC Odyssey in 2019 or 2020, but it got delayed and eventually Valhalla came out. I was aiming to have this out before Feb 2022 was over, and at least i succeeded.
Next month will be Fire Emblem Three Houses. Probably won't be a 2 parter like originally planned. Also going to try to play catch up to TIHYDP CoD Black Ops Cold War, please stand by.

Phil ACCIDENTTALY got history correct. Lol. He said it wrong but it was overall right. The pyramids are so old that even to Egyptians during this time, they were considered old. That’s how far back those marvels were constructed, which makes them all the more impressive. You can see this in how they fall in to disrepair by the time the game is set in, as well as the painted surface finally falling away to time. Pretty cool stuff reallly.

I'm amazed that a version of DSP as recent as this actually thought it was acceptable to do a "gay lisp" for 5 minutes straight and being quite offensive about it. He then has the audacity to say his stream is a "safe space" for queer people in present day. I know he doesn't know when to let a joke go, but he should've set that one free after the first 5 seconds. His obsession with gay people is weird. Especially since that wasn't even a good attempt at it.

1:37:38 highlights an important aspect of current DSP that has become obvious to anyone who either watches him outside of TIHYDPs or just through this medium. He's forcibly changed himself to an even less funny, more greedy, and unlikable person. At least before Kat came around he was funny to watch in a bad way. Now even TIHYDPs can be stale just because his personality shift has ruined any kind of enjoyment even detractors have of him. I can't imagine actually wanting to watch his streams seriously. It's a shame he thinks what he's become is better as it's apparent to anyone watching him before and now, that he is even worse somehow.

That beginning rant about female assassins creed characters aged very poorly considering that the game was originally designed with Aya as the main protagonist and then Ubisoft executives decided they don't want a female lead (and the reasons for that them just being sexist to begin with).

I see, I didn't know that. I guess that makes sense, but I like how things shook out with Bayek and I think he's a well designed, storied and very well acted character. I do wish the Aya segments allowed customization of her weapons and all that, since she's so much at odds with the rest of the game played from Bayek's perspective. Something like the Syndicate character swapping would have been cool, like some missions or events are only available for one character, or Aya has her own separate open world area. It ends up being better imo, they created not one but TWO well done and lore relevant characters, damn shame we don't have direct sequels to either of them. Instead we get them advertising Male leads (Alexios, Male Eivor) and making the females canon (Kassandra, Female Eivor) and that just destroys the whole Role Playing spirit of the game. Why spend hours upon hours getting to know and role play and building your character when from the literal start you picked the "non-canon" route. It's like a spit in the face for idiots like me who try to keep learning the lore. They could just further reference the characters as "Eagle Bearer/Misthios" and "Eivor" and leave it up to the player which was canon. It just feels like Ubisoft is too afraid/sexist to commit to having a full on Female mainline game (Liberation doesn't count) when Metroid, Tomb Raider, and so many others have existed for decades.

@@The0utsyder I always had a strange feeling when playing Origins. Because while I didn't dislike Bayek, I also never felt that he had any kind of character arc. Bayek, from the start to the end of the story, is just about bringing his son peace (which is a bit more explained by the fact that Khemu was stabbed in the heart, which in egyptian mythology would be the part of the body that is weighed and therefore has to be intact). He was always against working with Kelopatra or any other person. He also was always about helping the poor in the country. So it felt weird, when the betrayal by Kleopatra was portrayed as a huge point in the story, even though Bayek never trusted her anyway. I think the part that worked the best was actually the first DLC about the hidden ones, because it included Bayek and his decisions and how he changes the foundation of the brotherhood through his experiences. Someone showed an a very detailed video ("What Assassin's Creed Origins Failed to Understand - A Critique") which I can recommend where this disconnect came from. Because it makes a lot more sense for Aya to be the protagonist. After Khemu dies she is the one who can't go back to their own life and who feels that something has to change. She is the one that trusts Kleopatra and has to then understand how naive she has been. She is then the one that changes how they should act. The person also showed that the original idea for the story was for Bayek to die early on and then follow Aya as the protagonist. But the director was then given a "new project" (that was never released) and a completely different person took over and changed the story to one revolving around Bayek. Of course there is no way to know what the exact reason was but after what was revealed about Ubisoft I think one can make a fair judgement. All of that obviously doesn't mean you have to dislike Origins. I can see why people have fun with it. I just wanted to mention it as I found it very interesting.

This and Odyssey was where AC hit its peak. Valhalla felt so dull compared to this. These games were vibrant. Odyssey greatly improved on the rpg mechanics and loot. Then Valhalla pretty much scaled it all back to even less than Origins. Just so sad. Dawn of Ragnarok is gonna be my last AC game or title I play. With Rift pretty much sounding like it’s reverting back to the first few AC games and not open world I’m out. With Infinity being a live service means AC will no longer be an rpg and most of the new mechanics will be removed. I mean you see it now. BF to Odyssey was where AC went from rpg lite to full blown rpg. Valhalla is now going back in the other direction. Sucks.

Agree wholeheartedly with this assessment tbh. The Ezio trilogy will always be close to my heart because they are the games that got me into the series, but it’s undeniable that Origins and Odyssey basically nailed down a perfect formula. I didn’t get Valhalla myself, and thank God because I’d be just as disappointed as you are. Can’t blame you for finishing off the DLC then calling it quits. Let’s just hope and pray that one day we can get back to this level lol

Unity is actually a great game and has some of the best mechanics in the entire franchise. The parkour being the best, by far. I have never seen someone ignore so many ingame mechanics before, then whine that its not going his way. The game literally tells him to not let them light the brazziers or else it brings more enemies but phil just ignores it all lmao

Apparently an ex Ubisoft employee revealed they decided to ditch Unity’s parkour system because of how “expensive” the animations were. And the newer games are way more spread out. I really liked origins, Valhalla was ok. Didn’t like odyssey
