I really enjoy your videos, but here's a suggestion if you want to keep people engaged with your channel: do a deep dive mock oral instead of just asking the usual questions. There is a ton of stuff on the ACS that a DPE could ask, and you could probably spend an entire hour diving deep into a topic like weather (as an example). Like I said, I like your videos, but there's only so many times you can listen to a student pilot recite the AROW documents before you tune out.

@@mymyrrah No. The ACS only states that you can use the ACS. The ACS does state reference material for each task. That is reference material to study, not to use during the oral. The DPE is the sole judge if any of the FAA material is allowed to be referenced during the test. So forget bringing that big tabbed up FAR-AIM. You should know the information by memory.

This checkride is very simple and easy. Do not trust you tube. I just had a checkride and it was closed book and they asked more difficult. Again you can not use your FAR-AIM to answer any questions. Besides, you should know all of 61 and flight rules, VFR and airspace by memory. This guy is way to nice also.
@cheesepilot
@cheesepilot 26 күн бұрын
All of my plans of action have been approved by the standards department of und aerospace foundation which is a 141 school with examination authority from the FAA to issue certificates based on in house evaluations. As for being closed book that's false the expectation is safe pilot I'd rather a pilot not know the answer and look it up than make up bullshit because they are trained that they can't look it up. Usage of source materials are allowed but the extent is up to the examiner. Obviously if you have to look up everything that's not good but if you need clarification and you need to look it up that's a good thing. I have been teaching for years and even I have to look stuff up occasionally how would I expect a student to do better than me?

@@cheesepilot Great response!! I’m currently in a part 141 school and open book is allowed. But we should not be using it on every question asked, like you said, only to clarify information or find information if we have forgotten it. I take my check ride in one week! Watching this video gave me a lot of confidence, and it helps me expect what questions will be asked. Thank you!

@@cheesepilot I am just saying, We fly in Southern CA as we have the most crowded and challenging airspace. The DPE's down here want you to know the information without having to look anything up. Yes, It's up to the DPE's. I know this from experience and what my flight school says. I knew most of the material. I tried to look up a answer regarding weather to get more details. Also, I was not able to use the chart legends in AWC. I need to know them all for FOG, rain, drizzle. I need to know all the items in a Cigmet. I was missing freezing levels and Low level Wind shear potential below 2000 Feet AGL. I flipped open the AIM in 5 seconds and the DPE stated to put the book away. I was not allowed to look at the Legend for the Wind barb Metar on the Observations page. The oral is about 3.5 hours long and the flight is about 2.5 hours. Also, no go around for a short field unless you have to do a go around do to a reason such as another aircraft on the runway. You only get one shot for a short field landing. Another not, If you are not in a stable approach or some other issue, than you also need to go around and that is an automatic disapproval. I am just giving the facts and my real world experience. 🙂
@user-jh5fm7ci6o
@user-jh5fm7ci6o 26 күн бұрын
@@cheesepilot Also, if you guess or try to BS the DPE, he will give you a disapproval. You need to study very hard in order to be able to answer the questions by memory. It's that simple. Bottom line, you need to get the answers correct. You are allowed to miss a couple of questions and that's it. You have to be able to ask for transitions thru airspace withen seconds after taking off before you end up flying into it. Also there is a lot of Bravo and have to ask for clearance to go thru Bravo. They will not always give you a clearance. Also do not bump the Charlie shelf, TFR's and all kinds of special use airspace. So-Cal approach is so busy the can not always give you VFR flight following, And when talking with them one the radio, you have to like get your radio call in on edge wise without stepping on another pilot or the controller. You are working the radio's constantly. There is a lot of traffic you have to keep your scan going and communicate. Also, It's mostly all city down there - the sectional is mostly all yellow. You need to be diligent in looking for a place to land if you loose your engine or some other emergency. This is not like flying in the hicks where there is not a lot of crazy airspace and so on.
