This student was completely ready for their check ride I wouldn't have any concerns signing them off for their checkride if I was their instructor.
With that being said I was only concerned about the fact that there was certain Textbooks he was unaware of so I have linked below all the text books that are free you as a student should be using as you go through your training.
Pilots handbook of aeronautical knowledge (PHAK)
www.faa.gov/regulations_polic...
Airplane flying handbook (AFH)
www.faa.gov/regulations_polic...
Aviation Weather Handbook
www.faa.gov/regulationspolici...
Now if you are a student and nervous about your next checkride head to ko-fi.com/cheezepilot and schedule a mock checkride.
But that's not all, my friends. Join me on my other social adventures:

Hi everyone! I'm the student in this video. I passed my PPL checkride 3/22/2024. I will be honest, Cheese Pilot mock made me feel extremely prepared and confident in my knowledge. The mock checkride he gave me was way more in depth than the actual checkride. Cheese is a great instructor and I hope anyone who is taking their checkride soon needs to do at least one mock with Cheese Pilot. I want to say thank you to Cheese Pilot for well preparing me for this checkride of mine and it was the best feeling in world to get that certificate. Cheers to many more!

@@mymyrrah No not yet. The DPE are super backed up. PS, I was told by my school that you should have all everything memorized. You are only allowed to look up 5 to 10% of the answers in the oral portion. Plus if you get a question on weather incorrect, it's an automatic fail in most cases. When flying, I will be put under the good, given random ordinates and attitudes to fix while under the hood. I will still need to keep my hood on and then use two VOR's to find my position and Chart it on the map. While I am under the hood and I must stay within standards. I can use Foreflight since Electronic flight bags are allowed. He will turn the GPS function off. I also have one shot to get my short field landing - No go around is permitted if I miss my spot. It's a automatic fail. Good thing I have that down. The reason why the DPS's are tough is that I am flying in the Southern CA LA basin. The most crowded and most busy airspace in the US. I waiting to get scheduled as they are super busy.

Just remember, you can only look up about 5 to 10 percent of the questions. The DPE want to make sure you know this instead of having to look it up. However, you need to know where to look it up and be familiar with the the FAR-AIM and the other books. But you have to know your stuff.

Mike model 172s prohibit slips with flaps. I fly M’s and it’s not always on the flap switch, but can be placarded nearby. You’ll lose elevator authority with flaps in during a slip. 0 degree only.

So I thought the "AVOID SLIPS WITH FLAPS EXTENDED" was on all 172M models. A little research and I found out that on 1975 models it isn't mentioned in the POH but on 1976 models it is.

Ah, I made a similar comment about slips with flaps in the M model. All that I train in have placards for no slips, even the 2 1975’s at my school. Maybe they placarded thr 1975’s to be cautious as the 1976’s prohibit it.

Just started the video, but a horsepower increase can come from the prop, not necessarily an engine swap or mod
@cheesepilot
@cheesepilot 4 ай бұрын
Can you explain how a HP increase can come from the prop? Thrust at certain rpm can increase from prop based on my understanding but engines are what generate horse power not props. Props create thrust.
@Algrimor
@Algrimor 4 ай бұрын
@@cheesepilot Sure thing, the propeller pitch and length can allow the engine to spin at a higher rpm, thus generating more horsepower. A good example of this is with Cessna 172 S and R models. They use slightly different props, the R model is an inch shorter and there is a pitch difference between them, they both use exactly the same engine, but the R model makes 160 horsepower and goes to 2400 RPM, but the S model can make 180 horsepower at 2700 RPM. The prop on the S model allows you to get more horsepower from the same engine by moving at a higher RPM. So basically more engine RPM means more horsepower, and a different prop can allow you to reach higher RPM. The formula is Horsepower = Torque x RPM / 5,252. Or another way to look at it is Power = work / time = (force * distance) / time = (torque * revolutions) / time This is also common with boats, they change out their propellers to increase the horsepower of their motors.
@cheesepilot
@cheesepilot 4 ай бұрын
@@Algrimor TLDR(credibility) I have a degree in automotive tech and have built multiple sub 10 second 1/4 mile cars. Engines have volumetric efficiency and can only move air so fast. Engines are air pumps. Props choose which rpm an engine will operate in not how much horse power is available. If you put a prop that allows the engine to rev higher than it's peak rpm you don't gain power rpm≠power power has to be available at that rpm. Try it in your car engines have volumetric efficiency to take into account just generating more rpm doesn't mean you will always generate more horsepower. If the valves and intake can't provide anymore air you can't generate more horse power if the exhaust valves or exhaust system can't scavenge enough of the burnt fuel/air mixture away you can't generate more horsepower. If rpm was the only factor then your car wouldn't have a transmission and constant speed props would be useless. Engines have peak torque and horse power rpms anything beyond these peaks is useless. If the engine has more torque to spare at a higher rpm you can generate more with a different prop to allow you to get to that higher rpm then sure more power but props don't generate more horsepower they allow you to operate in a different range of the engine that might have more power. Think of high performance diesel engines vs high performance gasoline engines. High HP and torque diesels operate around 3-6k rpm but high performance gasoline engines operate in the 10-15krpm range but both can generate the same horsepower. I have a degree in automotive tech and have built a couple sub 10 second 1/4 mile cars. Rpm≠horsepower. If your still questioning go try it with your care you'll notice a drop off in acceleration past your cars peak hp rpm and if that was an airplane engine I'd put a prop on it that would keep it at that rpm at full power. (Gear box for rpm reduction to prop may be needed)
@cheesepilot
@cheesepilot 4 ай бұрын
Also the HP=torquexrpm/5252 is just a rule of thumb to ballpark HP without anymore information or understanding the volumetric efficiency of the engine or how the air actually flows through the cylinders or how efficient the burn is you can have margins of error of 10-20%. I've built engines with math then built them in real life and using that ballpark equations gets you close but not that accurate
@Algrimor
@Algrimor 4 ай бұрын
@@cheesepilot "but props don't generate more horsepower, they allow you to operate in a different range of the engine that might have more power" This is what I meant. For all intents and purposes that's what really matters, you're able to access more power, and when flying the plane, the power you can access is the power that matters. If you're trying to get more power out of an airplane engine, you can modify the engine itself, or change the prop. This is why I said a horsepower increase can come from the prop and not just modifying the engine. Thanks for your explanation I like learning about this

You were definitely over-critiquing for what is expected from a private pilot. Very informative, but I’d be careful not to overload his brain with new material or making him feel like what he is saying is wrong. It could lead to him performing worse on the checkride by not having the confidence in himself. I know I’ve been there. Nonetheless, cheers to you for preparing another eager student pilot and good luck to this young man in his aviation adventure.
