I personally disagree with Killzone, mostly because there’s enough generic military shooters in and out of VR. I feel like a good singleplayer tactical shooter (like the good Tom Clancy games, or the S.W.A.T series) would be fucking awesome. An immersive sim that would be a ton of fun in VR is the Thief series. I know there’s a similar VR game called Unknightly, but that game seems to be permanently stuck in Early Access hell. VR needs more good stealth games in general.

+1 for killzone VR. I literally only have a PS3 for Killzone, now that The Last of Us and the Metal Gear Solid collection are either on or coming to steam. Killzone 3 already showed it makes sense by having a stereoscopic 3D mode, and VR is literally just half a step away from 3D (3D TV and VR owner). If they got it to run well and didn't half-arse it, it would sell like crazy. Also, an FPSVR version of Deadspace would've been a day 1 purchase for me. It'd be like playing a newer, more brutal Doom3VR. My ideal VR port would be Darktide, or Deathwing. Darktide would be super intense and probably run like shit, and you'd have to rebalance around not having set animated attack patterns, so that's probably less practical. Deathwing is basically a VR game that isn't in VR for some reason. Left hand is your melee weapon, right hand is your ranged weapon. Melee attacks are basic and you can block too. It would be super easy to convert, which is probably why its listed in the titles getting UE4VR injector support!!!

Yup, the Bioshock Trilogy would be an incredible treat in VR. Especially since the games run on toasters these days. The biggest problem is that Unreal Engine 3 lacks VR support (from my understanding), so either they would need to create a VR-plugin for the engine itself or upgrade these massive games to Unreal Engine 4, causing a whole world of pain for game developers and the QA team. But yeah, Creating a generalized VR plugin/mod for Unreal Engine 3 engine would've been amazing since there are so many games created in that engine which are super light on hardware. (Batman Arkham Trilogy, Bioshock, Borderlands, Dishonored, Enslaved, Mass Effect, Mirror's Edge, Q.U.B.E, Sherlock Holmes etc.) Not all of them suited for first person perspective... But still. I would play through all of them again. :)

Awesome job with this video, man. I totally agree with every one of your picks. Interesting note about Dead Space, there was a rail-shooter in the franchise called Dead Space: Extraction which was first person and used motion controls (Wii and PS3). I'd hope a Dead Space VR game wouldn't be on rails, but I think Extraction proves the franchise can work in first-person with motion controls. As for my own picks, I think an Uncharted game would work well in VR, but instead of playing as Nathan Drake you would play as a sidekick. This is both so that you could still see and interact with that character, and also to justify why you wouldn't be able to do some things the way he does, like climbing. You could still climb in VR, but Nathan Drake climbs like a lemur on crack cocaine. But Uncharted would lend itself really well to some VR puzzles and traversal. Same sort of setup would also work well for a Tomb Raider game. I also think there are some puzzle games that would work really well in VR, like The Witness and the recent game Viewfinder. They tend to rely on perspective a lot, and sometimes require a flat view, but for VR they could either blank out one screen to simulate the character closing one eye, or on PSVR 2 they could use the eye tracking to actually activate mechanics when you close one eye (like The Witness' puzzle interaction mode).

I find it absolutely ridiculous that Microsoft, who have already spent tons of money on Windows Mixed Reality, that they don't use it as a VR portal for XBOX while offering VR support in their games (both on XBOX and PC)... They really don't need to come out with their own hardware competing with PSVR2, they could just partner with other VR-headset manufacturers like they did with HP, Dell, Lenovo, Samsung a couple of years ago. It feels like such a small investment on their part since they already have the middle-ware ready and VR could be treated as 3rd party peripherals instead. (minimizing the financial risk, while still being in-the-loop of VR).

Games where you use one hand to shoot and another to cast some spell would work really well in VR. On a flat screen you can only aim in one direction at a time but in VR you could aim your plasmid at one enemy and gun at another. Being able to fluidly combine the powers of both had would be great. Another game that you didn't mention is Crysis. It would be a great VR game because that suit turns you into a kind of super hero with speed and strength. Grabing, punching, and throwing enemies with one hand while shooting with the other would be great in a Crysis VR.

A crucial piece of porting games from flat to VR is that the game play needs to be rebalanced. VR can pretty drastically alter the difficulty, usually toward making the game less of a challenge because VR inherently provides better control over your character. For example, the Half Life 2 VR mod was well done. But despite the game itself being the same, it's much easier when played in VR, in some cases quite dramatically so because you can do things like blind firing a shotgun around a corner to kill a large number of enemies while being invulnerable to their fire. While I enjoyed playing through it, VR made the difficulty very inconsistent. Some parts remained hard while other parts were reduced to being laughably easy in VR when they were hard in the original flat game.

I disagree, the best thing for VR would be to let propriatary hardware/software to fail and die or else we will have to wait 20 years till that tech becomes available for other commercial products. Look what sony patented for the PSVR2, now all of that is blocked for 20 years for everyone else.

Vr is ALREADY a niche category, restricting games to be PSVR exclusives is a surefire way to kill the genre.

Having those games as exclusives is the only incentive Sony has to fund them (and make no mistake, Sony IS funding things like Synapse, the official RE8 port, RE4 Remake, etc). Why would they put their money behind multiplatform games? Besides, they usually only sign deals for 1 year of exclusivity with third parties. Also they've been porting more of their first party games to PC lately, so there's nothing saying they wouldn't do the same with VR titles (though they might be hesitant due to the small size of the PC VR market).
