In this series you will see the initial invasion of Edward I in 1296, the galvanizing resistance of William Wallace and the campaigns of the Scottish Guardians from 1297 until 1304, as well as Robert the Bruce’s campaigns from 1306 until his infamous victory at Bannockburn in 1314, and, finally, the Scottish diplomatic missions coupled with military victories culminating in the Treaty of Edinburgh-Northampton in 1328.

(HistoryMarche) - If you could possibly explain to me why the scots formed as they did during the battle of Falkirk because it's obvious that the way William Wallace had them formed up in skilltrons as he did he must have known it wasn't goin to hold up as it may have held more precisely as it being more of a line or even possibly preferably mimicking a phalanx like Statuto as a sense other than leaving your flanks open to encirclement/envelopment. Hopefully I will get an answer to this question one day n not be stumped on why someone with his knowledge of tactics and battlefield strategies to make such a mistake like this as one would if they were at their first battle

The unbiased commentary is so perfectly scripted that, unlike with football, I almost appreciate the losses as much as the victories!

As a Scottish American (Clan Fraser of Lovat) I can agree to an extent. I don't watch sports very much, but I love learning our history. It's important to do so, maybe moreso as in America, we have no Clan Castles or clan lands. We have Clan gatherings, highland games, and occasionally we speak Gaelic and have battle reenactments. It's important to know this I think and to remember what our ancestors went through so we could be here.

I don't see why Scottish history is rich and there's plenty to be proud of, as far as i recall this is the only time England invaded and the Bruce ended that, the Act of Union was signed in 1707 according to the history books it was initiated by the Scot's to gain access to English colonies and trade and because the Scottish state was bankrupt, the English never forced the union on them in the same way the Welsh and Irish had, you're not proud of the Higlanders who charged the French at Waterloo? with the Scot's Greys charging through the Highlanders as they smashed the French line... and that's just my favourite in all of Britain's wars the Scot's have played major roles, away from military stuff the Scottish are also responsible for a large number of inventions far above the the ratio for other countries, you have a lot to be proud of my Northern brother don't let the Nationalists change history for their own ends, the Scot's entered into a union of their own free will and chose again during the referendum, this is not propaganda this is fact, we have and will always be "better together"

@@xtoll123 The Scottish elite sold out the Scots with the Act of Union. Having signed this they proceeded to evict many Scots from the Highlands and Lowlands, as they didn't men any more for defense and instead wanted palaces and money to support their lavish lifestyles in London and Paris so sought to replace people with more profitable sheep (this failed by the way). They also set up the regular Scots to be used as cannon fodder in the expansion of the British Empire - particularly in India. After one slaughter of the Scots a general was reported saying to a subordinate 'don't worry, there are plenty more where they came from' - the truth is Scotland went from being a global leader in many areas to a sad, dependent nation, with its regular people enslaved to England and that dependence is so entrenched it now cannot stand on its own. Like England It has turned into a decadent nation with no Christian values, unhealthy people and ruined economy. The only reason England is not impoverished is because of the finance sector, set up by the Elites there (for their own purposes) and based out of the City of London - a cabal of the rich whom flout decency by setting up tax havens in British dependencies.
@DavidNotSolomon Жыл бұрын
@@Jürgen_von_Schumacher You most likely are in the U.S because the Scottish elites evicted vast number of Scots after the Act of Union. There is no traitor so bad as the Elites of nation - the elites of America have equally ruined the regular people there by allowing their industries to be sent to China. If America could not print money like crazy, the true destruction of America would be revealed.

Off piste running I completely agree with you on wanting videos on the Jacobite rebellions but I would also love to see a video on this one Scottish battle that I really only know two things about but I don’t know anything else about the battle and this battle is the battle of Athelstanford and what I do know about the battle is very interesting and important to Scottish history and what I know about the battle is that the commanders of the battle were Pictish king Oengus the second or oengus the first and facing them was king ethelstan grandson of king Alfred the great but the important part of Scottish history is a legend and the legend is that on the eve of the battle king oengus had a vision and in the vision Saint Andrew who was crucified on a diagonal cross came to the Pictish king promising him victory and then in the morning of the day of the battle the picts saw a cloud formation that looked like Saint Andrew’s cross and the picts won the battle and attributed their victory to the blessing of Saint Andrew and then the picts named him as their patron saint and adopted his form of the cross as their flag and the important part of Scotlish history is this is where the flag of Scotland supposedly came from.

The Jacobite rebellion. As a Fraser, that's a very hard subject for me to remember and talk about. Culloden Moor.... so many of our ghosts dwell there. My grandfather tells me stories of what it was like. I hope to go there with him one day and pay our respects. I am Protestant, not Catholic, but it's still a momentous day in our history

@@Jürgen_von_Schumacher okay but I mean for the Jacobite rebellions I would love to see videos on the underrated stuff that happened before culloden like the Jacobite rising in 1689 like the battles of Killiecrankie and Cromdale and also the Jacobite rising of 1719 and the battle of Glen Shiel and I would like to see the battle of Glen Shiel because fighting on the side of the Jacobites was Scottish born Spanish, Russian and Prussian general and Field Marshal James Keith who was responsible for putting empress Elizabeth of Russia on the throne however James Keith is best known for fighting and Dying in the service of Frederick the Great king of Prussia.

I wish you completed the Hannibal series. The production quality is one of the if not the best out of all KZbin history channels yet I rarely stop by because of your lack of systemic uploads. It sucks when great history channels upload a bit from here a bit from there. Instead I, and I'm sure many others, would appreciate more systemic series based uploads. I remember watching the final battle when it first came out and it still puzzles me why Edward II wouldn't commit his infantry against the Scottish infantry. Lock them in place, have your calvary destroy their archers, and have your archers obliterate the schiltrons. Like his infantry didn't even take part in the fight nor try and relieve their calvary when things were looking bad. Edward II certainly was not his father's son.
