The thing is, kart racers are the ones that works and are much more successful. The Riders games have middling review scores at best (and Free Riders was the worst), while the kart racers, that aren't the Drift games, were more positively received by a lot of people. Just like Unleashed, the Riders games are the games that most gamers outside the fandom point out as "wtf were they thinking?".

I highly doubt this means we’re getting a remaster of the riders games. I think they just know that some fans are nostalgic for the Sonic Riders games so they wanted to throw them a bone and get some nostalgia points. I mean, they’ve been doing the same thing with black Knight sonic characters for a while in the Sonic Forces Speed Battle (even giving us some black knight variance of characters like Infinite) but I don’t think we’re gonna be getting a sequel to that game anytime soon (even though I would totally be on board for it, just like a riders remaster).

It honestly would be a disservice for them to now consider going back to the Riders series. You have people in different communities such as Riders Evo who’ve already started remaking the game years ago. This is something they could’ve started back working on since 2019 when TSR sold horribly and was getting little to no playtime. We’re now in year 14 of no Riders sequel, let alone remaster. It’s sad that they’ve added the perfect gimmick for a Sonic racing title and they abandon it for an inferior kart racer. All Stars and transformed was cool. But it doesn’t even compare to the formula that they cooked up with the extreme gear. It was so intricate and different that nobody could’ve comprehended. Honestly, if they would’ve stuck with this, it legit could’ve been neck and neck with Mario Kart. Now as of today it cost them dearly and now if they even consider bringing back Riders, it would be by popular demand. And another thing I just find it a bit disrespectful for Sonic Team to add Jet and Wave to the character roster in the M&S series and even mention him in Frontiers but refuse to even talk about bringing back what we loved most. Speeder, you and I both know and understand how much this spinoff means to us. The more we continue to spread the word, the better!

Sonic Riders 4 should combine elements of OG Riders and Free Riders along with having returning gears like the skates. I enjoyed the gameplay of OG Riders such as dashing and hitting your rivals and drifting at tight corners, but I liked the concept of gear parts in Zero Gravity and Free Riders, with the latter being able to choose any gear part for any gear you choose.

4 things need to happen if Sonic Riders is getting a remake for it to become an instant success: 1.Keep the class system, that the original Sonic Riders and Sonic Heroes had, because that made sense for the characters and personality of the game and made you explore different styles of gameplay making the original game enjoyable to this day. They just need to tweak some aspects and maybe balance it along the way depending on how the players perceive them. 2.Make the online functional. No bullshit shenanigans with P2P or anything of that sort. It needs to have an amazing online experience to support the Competitive scene that will undoubtably rise if this project is a success. 3. balance the ring loss rate of the original game, because being hit or falling off making you lose all rings is the worst thing to ever happen, because it slows you down in a game that is supposed to be fast and snappy. also while we are on that and it kinda leans into my next point, I think it would make sense if rings were not capped at 100, but instead at like 30 with the same 3 stages upgrade system with rings not appearing from boxes anymore. or if anything as a usable item similar to Mario Kart. 4. and most importantly is that they need to add a bit more depth to the gameplay. Mario Kart as a series stood the test of time imo, not because of characters, but rather stages and items. Sonic Riders already nails stages and the general vibe that comes with stages (Music, Environment, Colors, etc.), but it lacks the item aspect, which is this rng element, that makes the casuals come back to the game. The best part is that they already did a lot of work on that front. Many items can be repurposed from the sonic cars games and they would fit perfectly into Sonic Riders and also make sense with the evolution and powerups from the mainline sonic games (Wisps from Colors etc.), making them the same as Mario Kart's items in that aspect. And the best part is, because the stages were already made in a way, where they don't need items to function it makes the game both accessible to casuals and competitive players with a simple toggle to turn off some or all items. I really have high hopes in Sonic Riders coming back especially with the classic class system most likely coming back for that sonic heroes remake, that is apparently in the works rn. I don’t think Sonic riders games didn’t really do so well but they definitely have the right idea to do something different other than a kart racer. Which nowadays almost any game can rip off Mario kart has inspired a thing that anyone else could do with their IP franchise so… I definitely think franchises as a whole need a remaster that combines all 3 games but all have online multiplayer to make it 10x better. Plus I think they should’ve put a tutorial how to play the game for a month better understanding how the game works and controls

Sonic Lost World=Super Mario Galaxy Sonic Frontiers=Zelda BotW/TotK Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing Transformed=Mario Kart 8 That’s not to say that they’re bad games, just that they’re clearly “taking inspiration” from Nintendo. SEGA has struggled with Sonic, fighting the right format or genre, causing a lot of different game styles and themes (again not automatically a bad thing, who wants the same thing over and over after all?) so it’s understandable they copy their more successful competition. I promise I’m not dunking on SEGA, or Sonic. I love them, probably more than Nintendo and Mario (although I did grow up more with them, still love Nintendo and Mario, Zelda, Kirby, SMASH BROS., and other franchises……..) One of those games I grew up with Sonic Riders on the PS2 (and Heroes and Unleashed, and yes I now know that the PS2 version of Unleashed cut out not only hub worlds but an entire location, Empire City! I had no idea at the time, but it’s what I had and it was still fun!). Sonic Riders was unique and differentiated it from Mario Kart, before becoming a more direct ripoff of Mario Kart (Sonic Kart). It gave Sonic its own racing spin-off/sub-series its own identity. I only ever got to play the first Sonic Riders, but I’m sure that Zero Gravity was even better (and Free Riders if it weren’t for being an XBox Kinect film body motion control exclusive!) I’d love to see a new Sonic Riders game (without required motion controls!) as well as another open world (if not “open zone”) sequel to Frontiers. (There’s a Riders mod to Frontiers btw, it’s cool but I’d say not really NECESSARY to be a part of the main games, but hey it’d be cool). I think Sonic Riders at least has more if a chance at getting a new game than the Sonic Storybook series, (as cool as that Sonic in Greek mythology world game would be, I think SEGA wants to stick to the main series, and at least the main Sonic world). *Whatever happened to “SEGA does what Nintendon’t”* Now SEGA is doing, COPYING what Nintendoes?

Hopefully this is right, though it is just another skin they're adding to the game, which is supposed to just be acknowledging Sonic's past games. The Riders series was such a unique competitor to Mario Kart, and it's surprising that no one made a spiritual successor yet, even though they were never the most popular. I'm saying this as someone who grew up with Mario Kart. What made this series unique was that they didn't feature cars and they had in depth story modes, and that is something I appreciate as you don't really get that anywhere else, making the experience and characters more memorable, and that goes for the whole Sonic series. Glad to hear you also like Free Riders, it's my favourite! Controls always worked well for me. I think it has the best track design in the series, and designing for the Kinect was a really neat idea, but they should have added a controller option. Honestly, optimising for the Kinect must have been really expensive, so in turn the story mode took a downgrade with those cutscenes and simpler plot, though I never hated it as the cutscenes are more expressive than most animated ones and the story is better written and suits a racing game more, plus I like how more characters are involved, plus Metal Sonic. Shame Zero Gravity scrapped most mechanics as it felt boring to play, almost as much as TSR, but it's story would have been really good in a mainline game. The first game didn't have a tutorial, which really affected it's reception, and something that Free Riders did really well. Its graphics look almost as good as Unleashed, and its locations were the most unique. There's just so much untouched potential! I'm grateful there are some fan games and mods that exist. I can't wait for the dx 3.0 update with custom tracks, as its only in X at the moment! I Also checked out that Roblox fan game, and was reminded of the forgotten battle mode, and I thought, imagine custom battle arenas! Would you want the next game to feature this? I think it could be really good if they had bigger arenas and better items! What sort of story should the next game have? Should it play more like the first game or even feature the Zero Gravity gimmick? Free Riders played more like the first but slightly more simplified and had really cool setpieces and side modes, so I would love gameplay which takes that further! It would be good if they did something like that to make it more accessible, plus a detailed tutorial mode! Also, at least Speed Simulator has Extreme Gear.

I couldn't agree more. Sonic Riders needs to come back. It felt like they had finally found their own thing with the boards. It was really unique and different from Mario Kart. More on the cool side. I like the Sonic Racing games but it's so much less interesting because it's so similar to Mario Kart. When Transformed came out, I was happy but I thought: "It's cool and all but it's still not Riders". It's similar to Luigi's Mansion that was just a simple game with Luigi at first but fans now regard it as Luigi's own game series because it's so specific and different from the Mario games and it fits perfectly for the character of Luigi who is always afraid of everything. In the same way Sonic Riders really is the unique series of racing games for the Sonic franchise.

the idea is a bit too raw, but i see potential... hmm okay, what if it's a trade off of sorts. you pick the broad with the ability and when used, your forced to run on your feet for a few moments. doing this would also mean the abilities will be insane and the slow down after will even the playing field, creating more strategy but more chaos. but this is just my quick spin of it

Having team diamond cutters (Lanolin Tangle Whisper) along with Surge Kitsunami and Mimic In a riders game would be insane, especially if they included characters who we’ve wanted in the style for forever now (Tikal, Chaos, Big, the rest of the chaotix) Especially with the older characters they’ve been bringing back too, imagine team Hooligan (Bean Bark Fang) or even a team mania with Mighty ray and someone like Honey
