Generational trauma. Jenny was indeed 14 years old just like Screech but her life probably wasn't very glamorous either. What kind of 14 year old has walked streets thousand times wearing high heels..? I think it's pretty insane how Violets tale starts with depictions of child abuse but still manages to get darker and darker as it progresses. First you hear in very graphic detail what Stevie does to her, then as you're already devastated, you hear about the pregnancy. And then the ending hits you like a ton of bricks and as you process what you heard and start tying all the details together, the first two parts become so much worse.

I've seen a lot of reactions to this song, and I'm really pleased that you identified Screech as a victim of tragedy too, as this is often missed, with him being painted solely as the villain. He's a 14 year old kid who's clearly had a shoddy upbringing, and you can see how devastated he is by it when he tries to speak to his friend Patrick and then his girlfriend won't see him, just when he needs some support and reassurance. Don't get me wrong, what he's done is fucked up, and there's no walking away from that, but essentially he's a scared kid who acts a lot tougher than he actually is. I really like that you got that, when so many others appear to miss it.

Ren has said that Screech and Jenny’s tale was inspired by real life events. He wrote Violet’s tale years later to give some sort of closure to their story. He’s a fantastic writer and storyteller but he also pays attention to every detail in his music videos. As for next thing to watch, Murderer or Loosing It are my favorite newer songs that he’s done but he also just dropped a video called Eden that I think you’d enjoy. Also, HMack dropped a new Beardyman colab video that is fire.

@@pauzeandrewind Yes, it was initially loosely inspired by a news article Ren read in passing, in which a woman had been killed in a robbery gone wrong, and then later the suspect was killed whilst attempting to be apprehended. What stuck with Ren was the young age of both the victim and the suspect, their proximity at death to one another, and the senseless nature of the whole debacle. This was then echoed by the final quote in the article attributed to the policeman who had pulled the trigger, "It's such a shame". That's why the line "It's such a shame" is carried through so many of Ren's songs with storylines, not only 'The Tales', but also 'The Money Game' trilogy, coming into a collective full circle in the last lines of TMG3, "Here's the words of his father, it's such a damn shame. Then he presses on the trigger of a money game." Both kids wind up in State 'Care' { which we all know is vastly underfunded, under-supervised and Broken }. They fall out of this system and both wind up on the streets. Jenny; winds up an underage prostitute, and Screech; toughing it out with his knife hanging with the gang, and age 14 they meet... Is this a real story? No, but it could easily be, all too easily. Maybe has. How would we, or even they, know! When, as you say, there are so many real tragedies just like this happening out there every damn day. Ren is not just a mega-talented artist, he's a modern bard, a 'town crier' and above all; a powerful Social Commentator. He shines his spotlight on the hard truths. He said he read about a young street kid who killed a young prostitute and then was killed himself. How he was saddened and disgusted to see how quickly that story just disapeared. Swollowed up in the relentless never-ending stream of the 24 hour news cycle. How habituated we are becoming to violence. How people - news readers etc. - murmur such meaningless platitudes as " Isn't that a shame...' and then it's gone, and on to the next 20 second news bite, as if those lives don't matter. Ren says; They DO matter! Every life matters. Pay attention. We KNOW the pathways ( he lays these out clearly ) that lead innocents like Jenny and Violet, and yes, poor boy 14 y/o Screech too into becoming victims and /or perpetrators. He leaves the big question hanging - echoing loudly in the sudden void at the end. " Why aren't we doing more to prevent these tragedies!?! "

He gives a whole Quinton movie right here with a flash back AND a twist ending 💥 What I've always wondered was, if Violet was being molested, were the twins the result of that or were they Stevies? "Violet, she fell fast"... he never says how long her and Stevie were together before that night in the hospital so there's a possibility of the story taking an even darker turn. It's the most masterful piece of music I've ever heard ❤️🔥 I love seeing reactors like you, who can appreciate all the beautiful details from the use of the environmental acoustics to just the sheer dopeness of those guitar solos.
