The tale of Jenny was based on a newspaper article he read about a boy who mugged and killed a prostitute, the tale of Screech and Voilet was just further from his own imagination. The reason you hear the ocean and seagulls on Violets tale is because it was shot in Brighton which is near the ocean. Yes Violet was the mother who died giving birth after being beaten up. So the father Stevie probably went to jail and they went to foster care. They got split up and grew up not knowing each other and then they meet on the streets 14 years later and Screech kills his own sister not knowing who she was. Jenny was quite and timid like her mother and Screech was violent and crazy like his father. They were born together on the same night and died on the same night. The history of violence repeats itself.

Seagulls are scavengers and will feed on flesh, it's an edited sound, although you think Ren conjured up a flock of seagulls at that exact moment 😂, but seagulls are to be seen and found on the River Thames ... the story is set in London, not Brighton ... Ren is a genius and I adore him but he is not Dr Dolittle (animal flow) nor is he David Attenborough (King Dotta Diss), so please don't hate me all .... just saying ❤

@@davemcc9642 Yes, the seagulls were added for effect. The story is indeed set in London but it is performed in Brighton and I believe that is why he added the seagulls. I lived in London for decades and I only once saw a seagull. I have no idea what your Dr Dolittle or David Attenborough comments mean.

Such great story telling in this trilogy. It starts with Jenny walking home late at night. At the end of Violet's tale we realize that Jenny was 14 years old walking the streets late at night in high heel shoes and rosie on her cheeks. This paints a whole new image of her. In Screech's tale he starts the song by saying we start the song right at the end because in chronological order Screech would be the final tale. At the end of Screech's tale he says the story ends right at the start with the image of Jenny and Screech lying one street apart foreshadowing to the end of Violet's tale and twins lying side by side. And then all neatly wrapped in a bow in Violet's tale with the life of Violet being one of violence and abuse resulting in her death and the twins likely separated at birth. A masterful story played out acted and narrated by Ren

I'm 69 and I've seen lots of musical innovation across lots of genres, but Ren is unique and very special. I've never come across anyone quite like him. His writing is second to none and everything he does is immaculately planned. This is performance art of an incredibly high standard............. and to cap it all he seems like a really nice bloke! I'm intrigued to follow his career. It is virtually unheard of for an independent artist to top the album charts in the UK like he did with his Sick Boi album..... it's always nice to see someone shake up the self obsessed 'hierarchy'...... Money Game 3 is genius!!

The seagulls can be heard because all three Tales are filmed live. No cuts. Something Ren does a lot of. Also, it explains why all the reverb in the hallway and stairs. In a recent interview with The Charismatic Voice, Ren talked about the painstakingly meticulous way we mixes his live videos. And they sound good!

I guess the sound of the seagulls appear in this very moment, because that's when the reality hits back for Stevie and Violet. Before that they both were so sucked in in this scene of violance, that they forgot about the reality. The moment Stevie realized what he did, the sound of something extremly real overflows him, like the waves of the ocean.

Ren is 33, from Wales but has been living in Brighton for some years. Until recently, he was also in a band, The Big Push. There are lots of their videos too, usually busking on the streets of Brighton. Their mash up of I Shot the Sheriff / Road to Zion / Hip Hop is wonderful - the video with the red braces. Ren has/has had some serious health problems from years of undiagnosed Lymes disease, which has left him with multiple health problems. It derailed his career - he'd just been signed by Sony, but they had to let him go because he was too ill to work. Now, he's an independent artist working with a small group of friends who are involved with producing videos etc. His second album just got to number 1 in the UK charts. He's been in Canada for the last 12 months undergoing treatment. Also, look out for his collaborations with Chinchilla, Sam Tomkins, Eden Nash. The Ren rabbit hole is a whole warren.

Ren is a modern day bard painting such vivid imagery with his storytelling that it pulls you in and forces you to keep watching - even when it gets physically uncomfortable. And Ren uses this ability to shed light on far too real issues. Also you might be as excited as the rest of us to know that Ren and his cinematographer Sam plan on filming a pilot to pitch something for Netflix sometime next year when Ren has finished treatments in Canada and is back in the UK. If Netflix doesn’t jump on it and give this man his own show, they are fools 😅 Anyway please check out Crutch feat. Bibi. As a metalhead I think you will love it 🖤

Its being filmed in Brighton, which is on the south coast of England, that is why you can hear seagulls - just ambient noise as they're recording outside. Each tale is a one take - no edits. I'd suggest doing Money Game. It's in 3 parts, and while each one can stand alone, they make more sense when watched in sequence. Enjoying your reaction. Don't take offence at the jacket, in the UK its just an American style jacket. In another video someone said he was wearing a Dolphin's shirt 🤷‍♀️

I am so excited to see you go down the rabbit hole that is the RENiverse! You are intelligent, intuitive, clearly artistic, articulate, quick witted, appreciative, expressive- you are the exact kind of reactor who belongs on the Ren Rollercoaster, and the exact kind of reactor that the RENegades LOVE to react to. PLEASE stay the course! I’ve subbed in anticipation of many more EXCELLENT REN reactions to come! PS. When you said that Ren does everything with purpose, you couldn’t be more accurate. In that hall scene, you’ll notice he finishes that section by singing, “The devil comes to danceeeeeee”… he is so intentional, that he holds out the S sound in dance as he slithers over to the door to knock on it, to signify the sound a snake makes (and everyone knows that a snake represents evil/satan/the devil). Every lighting technique, every bar, every flick of the wrist, every pluck or strum of the strings… it all has purpose. He IS a GENIUS.

Due to severe depression and immense loneliness for more than 3 decades, i almost completely lost my ability to experience joy, any joy. Nothing excites me anymore. But Music and good, meaningful lyrics have always been a love of mine, healing, calming, letting me FEEL something again. At the beginning of 2023 i stumbled upon "Hi Ren" on KZbin. And it hit me like a punch to the stomach. Never before in my life have i felt so heard and understood. REN is a once in a generation artist, multi - instrumentalist, a phenomenal, modern day Shakespearean storyteller, lyricist, bard, rapper, producer, creative *genius.* And i have fallen in love with music again, he has lit a fire in me that i thought was completely lost. Yes, REN changes lives. And i love him for that.

The 'such a shame' line he repeats at the end of Jenny's & Screech's tales is a comment on society when we hear or read of such awful tragedies that's often said then people just carry on without another thought. How desensitized some have become we hear so many awful things day in & out. There is nothing really in these tales far fetched enough to not have the possibility of being true, sobering thought 😔 loved your "WTF" reaction 😊 Ren can mess your mind in the best possible ways 😊

You hear seagulls because Ren Wants you to hear seagulls!!! Brighton of course. I am not from the UK, yet have always understood Brighton is a seaside town. Ren makes the most of what he has around him and draws from real life. You will enjoy the Ren rabbit hole of differing masterpieces which elicit a variety of emotions from heartfelt tears, to dark emotions , to wonderfully upbeat, cheery ditties. Enjoy, there is not a bad song amongst his collection (although some I might not listen to regularly, I can appreciate the skill of them and the performance). Edited to add: he did it (a live version of this trilogy) on a 360 degree stage in a carpark. (where Screech's tale was filmed?) Look for it on his channel. It is Interactive - so move it like google maps to watch the crowd etc....

Jenny’s Tale came first and was based on a real event ( a 14 y.o. killed a woman with a knife). Screech’s Tale came a year later and Violet’s Tale came 3 years after. Ren has said that he has ADHD ( as do I) and while he was confined to his bed for long stretches of time ( upwards of 23 hours a day) his mind, when not in a fog brought on by constant pain , was working…overtime. When he was able to,he made music on his computer from his bed and I have no doubt that there are notebooks filled with lyrics, poems, beats… all drawing a picture of what his active mind stuck in an inactive body looked, felt , and sounded like. He is clearly well read and intelligent beyond just the obvious “IQ” - he is also highly emphatically ,ranking equally high in EQ. It’s how his songs are not just songs ; they are narratives , they are stories , they paint a picture. They are art. And art, in all its forms, is meant to provoke a feeling, a thought, an emotion.

You hear seagulls and the ocean in the background because (despite the story being set in London) it is filmed in Brighton, where Ren lives. Brighton is a beach town on the south coast of England. The audio you hear in all 3 parts is all recorded live during the shooting of the video. The reason you hear the reverb in the building is because that's actually the acoustics in the building. He's boosted bits here and there to clean it all up, but this is in essence, 3 single take videos (audio and visuals) stitched together

These are recorded live and in one take in these spaces! This is why you hear the reverb change when he moves from room to room (especially evident in Violet's tale), and you can hear the seagulls when he's outside. You can see his lapel mic. 🙂

Violet gave birth to Jenny and James (Screech), then she died. The rest is ambiguous, but it's fair to assume Stevie the Father went to prison, and the twins were separated and put into foster care, which we can tell was a success for these kids. Also notable is that Jenny stayed silent just like her Mother did the night she was killed. As far as the birds, I believe this was recorded live in Brighton, which is right on the shoreline, so the I think the birds made it in unexpectedly, and were kept. All these were live, one takes, which makes it even more impressive.

Great reaction! Mind blowing to say the least isn’t it 🤯 Mad Renegade here & followed The Big Push for a few years now - Enjoy the deep, deep, beautiful, soul altering rabbit hole ❤ Violet was their Mum, she’s passed at birth, they’ve grown up orphans not knowing they had a twin. Their life trajectory’s set up by genetics & environment led poor Jenny (quiet like her mum) to a life “on the red light street” & Screech to violence & anger like his dad. Brother killed his sister - And it’s such a shame! I’ve read it’s loosely based on a news article Ren had read. There is an interesting & visceral back story video out there where he set the scene for these tales - a prequel performed with his friends, Ren acting as Screech & his friends Jenny, Patrick etc - it nearly got banned from insta (I think it was) as it was thought to be “real”. Interesting fact: Patrick wasn’t home at No. 54 & “Babe” his GF was busy when he called…..I’ll leave it there 👍🏻😊

The idea came from a news story in the UK about a 14 year old who killed someone. (Or something like that). Generational poverty and trauma. Time for Money Game 1 though 3. You can do them separately this time. "Money Game" is a live one-take again (possibly my favorite). Money Game 2 is a lyric video (so good) and Money Game 3 is live again.

Nice reaction. You commented on Ren using his surroundings like the stairwell for reverb. You'll see in "Chalk Outlines" that he does with a woman named Chinchilla uses the surroundings for effect too. I see you've done one of his songs busking with the Big Push now; much of Ren's music is unconventional rap, but he's got a ton of range. Bongo Bong with the Big Push is a fun, silly remake of the song. He's got a homage to the Beastie Boys with "What You Want". The guy can just do a ton of different stuff.

On Ren's KZbin Channel he has him doing the trilogy live in one of the alleyways he recorded one of the three videos in. It was recorded before he blew up but it's amazing seeing how many fans show up and packed the area. Even Ren was taken back by the turnout. But he has a PA set up that he uses busking, a little stage and everyone in almost total silence in awe watching him sign and act out all three songs and he even added a fourth that doesn't at all contribute to the story, but it's a good filler that adds to the live performance. He put it out on the internet ejat

I'm not sure you have fully realised that the songs are performed live and the videos are done in one take. Firstly the reason why you heard seagulls might be simpler then you think: Ren records those live... And when you record stuff live you might just hear seagulls not because of some creative decision but simply because they where close by. Secondly as far as I know the story originated from a news article Ren read that made him think "what could drive a young boy to do something like that?" But I myself spend some time at psych wards, like Ren, and I can tell you that you hear and meet people with such stories there... I guess some of the inspiration also came from such experiences.

The seagulls as others mention are part of the background of Brighton (so the English Channel not the Ocean) but I believe it's seagull sample used for dramatic emphasis. He uses a seagull sample to emphasise in his retake of the Verve's "Bittersweet Symphony". Like you say, everything he adds in is done for a reason. Hahaha i agree with the Cowboys statement 🤣 (coming from a poor old Bearcats and Bengals fan lol)... If you noticed in the 1st video he's wearing a throwback Nebraska Cornhusker's jacket. Both were powerhouses in the 90s and Ren LOVES the 90s.

The snow effect coming down on screen freaked me out at first, then I got it. After your first pausing of the video, I noticed Santa in the top left and laughed; now I keep seeing him pop out lmao. Ren is phenomenal! (everything else has pretty much been said, so I won't repeat (anything else haha)). Great reaction dude, just wish that your square was a bit smaller so it doesn't cut part of the middle of the video off (just a thought).

The back story I heard, which is probably mostly accurate, is that he saw a small back page article in a newspaper that without much detail reported a 14 yr old female's death and ended with "what a shame " Ren supposedly feel that was disingenuous and cold, and thus wrote this trilogy to humanize the scenario with a bit of the cycle of violence as a bigger picture motif

Thank you for this great reaction! I have seen a lot of reactors react to this piece of artwork for the past 10 months or so, and you are the first to mention the fade out when Screach died. I happen to love that part and you are the first to notice. It's like the spirit leaving the body. Such an awesome effect. Thank you! I am a new sub. Please react to Ren's Sick Boi

I understand the location for violet's tale was the basement of a friends apartment block, the hospital room was the bicycle storage room which they cleared out and 'dressed' for the shoot. The hospital bed was something Ren ordered from Argos and when it arrived it turned out he had ordered a childs bed so they had to put packing under the legs to get it to work for the story. The imagination to put all the elements together to produce this is phenomonal. He does it time and again. Mudererer and Bongo Bongo same location, as are parts of losing it. Animal flow is apparently also a friend's apartment.

Animal Flow was shot in the same building as Violet's tale (according to a Viktus interview) just upstairs. This is the same doorway Ren eventually walks through at the end into the alley where his "animal followings" then gatheres behind him.

It’s because it’s all a one take and he uses the natural reverb from the buildings when he walks from Hall to Hall and up staircases and then it’s where he records. The purpose for you to hear the seagulls is the location.

It's filmed in Ren's home town of Brighton. It's on the South Coast of England, so seagulls are everywhere. I doubt you're hearing the sea though. It's more likely muffled traffic noises. We get some seagulls in London too, as the Thames in London is a tidal river but nothing compared to a proper coastal town. :)

wait.....wha... yes that's a reaction many of us have had when first hearing the twisted circular tale ( it reminds me of ouroboros, the circular serpent eating it's own tail) violence begats violence. I first watched your reaction to the war pigs mash up and would recommend you listen to I shot the sheriff which was recorded on the same day as war pigs... another amazing performance. There are so many great songs by this guy and so many different genres that he seems to be at home with.. not a singer, not a rapper but a true performance artist the likes of which or seen all too rarely. Subbed to watch more insightful reactions from you. ... oh and yes well spotted the under lying reggae tones found in so many of his songs.

Yeah the original story of Jenny & Screech was sparked by an article of a teenage boy knifing a young prostitute. And I believe it was the police officer quoted in that article "it's such a shame" There is a stage version of this, not something to react to but Ren did a 360° VR concert. It was announced without the location given, fans were met at a train station and guided to the "stage" put together on the streets. Police did show, as it was technically an illegal concert, but know Ren from his busking so let it go ahead. This full concert has extra context and content, you'll enjoy it.

From what I have heard this was based on a true story that happened when we had a very bad knife crime epidemic (uk). An underage prostitute was mugged and killed by a 14 year old lad. EDIT: he was later killed by police I think the third part was just ren finishing off the story in his own creative way but also very cleverly changes the narrative from knife crime to the cycle of abuse. Hope that helps More so I hope its correct lol Great reaction Jimmy. Keep them coming!

Ignore this. It's not true. The very brief story that Ren read, described how a 14 year old boy killed a young woman in a knife attack. Apart from time and place, that's pretty much the extent of the story that got Ren thinking about how a 14 year old boy could end up doing that. The rest comes from Ren's imagination. Unfortunately, Ren's storytelling and performance skills are so good that many fans think a lot more of the story is true than it actually is. I've even heard some claim that the entire trilogy is a real life story. Other fans read it and repeat it and so it spreads. That's social media for you! :) About the only parts of the story that are the same, are that the boy was 14 and he murdered a female with a knife. That's it! The female was a woman, not a girl and there was no mention of her being a prostitute, never mind an underage one like Jenny. The boy wasn't killed by the police. He was arrested.. Shooting, by an ordinary police officer, just wouldn't have happened. Mainly because ordinary police officers don't carry firearms! Also because de-escalation is the prime response. A firearms team would only be called in extreme circumstances and as a last resort. A taser may be deployed if nothing else has worked but not all officers carry tasers either, as it involves extra training.. In reality, all we know is that he was arrested, not how and that he wasn't shot or killed. Ren used poetic licence for dramatic effect. 99%+ of this story is from Ren's imagination and creative genius! He's just so good, that some believe the story to be real. :)

Looking deeper into the story Jenny wearing high heels walking the streets suggests she was a prostitute, and had the attributes of her mother staying silent when threathened. Screeech had his father Jame's attributes, violent and little morality. A horrific tale where both were seperated at birth and met by chance where uknowingly killed his sister.

Original music, busking with his former band The Big Push, Collaborations with Chinchilla, Sam Tompkins, and many others, two albums each with 18 great songs. From what I understand, he saw a news story where a girl was killed and then the murderer was killed by police nearby and it struck him how we just get desensitized and shrug these stories off, so he wanted to tell their story so to speak (all the details are fictional, obviously).
