As a videographer, you simply must react to "Crutch". Ren wrote it at the height of his illness and it's hauntingly beautiful. It was done with an almost zero budget and still, the cinematography is breathtaking! It's soft and delicate with an explosion of Ren's vocals at the end that will blow your mind! It's one of my favorite songs by Ren and is a f*cking masterpiece!

I took a look at the comments and didn't see anyone giving you the story yet, so if you don't mind, allow me. The lore is that Ren read an article a while back, about a boy stabbing a girl, and towards the end of this article, someone was quoted as saying "it's such a shame". This inspired him to write their story, originally just the two. He took some artistic liberties with the tales, made jenny a young lady of the night, and Screech a violent street thug, both 14, He purposely repeats the beginnings of both songs at the end ("it was a clear dark night...", "Our Story [begins] right at the [start]..."), and concludes both songs with the quote from that article. An unspoken social commentary on how these things just keep happening over and over on repeat. While all we do is give our insignificant 'thoughts and prayers'. Two year after the success of the first two (2019), he released Violet's Tale. Sticking with his themes of repeating tragedy, he placed Violet's tale back in 2005, to match the two kids' age. Setting the saga up for, in my opinion, the most critical detail. He makes both parents the source of the kids' behaviors. Jenny's Silence, and multiple forms of abuse. And Screech's violence, propensity to substance abuse, and even his panic after the fact. But crucially, he goes even further. By ending with Violet's Tale, Not only does that allow him to drop the bomb on us, he neatly ends the entire saga right back where it started. The beginning is the end, and the end is the beginning. Absolute masterpiece.

In fact, it was an article about a 14 year-old boy who stabbed a prostitute to death while robbing her. (In Britain guns are illegal but knife violence is prevalent.) The policeman who was interviewed by the reporter was quoted as saying, "It's such a shame." So the age of the perpetrator, the prostitute as victim & her death by stabbing were the 3 basic elements he used. And his empathy, creativity & amazing talent made magic out of that.

For what it's worth, many of Ren's fans love discussions about Ren's primary cinematographers; Samuel Perry-Falvey and Luke Flegg. I believe Connor Hunnisett did one of his videos and his photographer Joe Flackerz is awesome as well. As you can probably tell from this, Ren loves his team and they love him. *Edit: one of my favorite things about Screech's Tale is right when Ren is describing Richard not expecting a kid to be running at him, Ren moves quickly towards the camera, pausing twice I believe, while Sam moves backwards at a consistent speed and it really gives me the sensation of someone charging at me. It's subtle, and I love it.

Ren read a story in the newspaper that inspired this story. To break it down, listen to it line by line. Ren's lyrics are extremely intentional. Jenny walked the streets at night like she had in her high heels as she had 1000 times before, she was a sex worker. The entire song is to bring attention to not only abuse but the cycle of abuse that occurs within families. Jenny was silent and quiet and lived a life much like her mother even though the twins were taken into the system at birth. Screech was just like his father, reckless, abusive, and the cycle continued. Even how violet was sexually abused by her father, then it cycled back to her falling in love with a man that abused her in every way including the same way her father did. Another aspect Ren pointed out in an interview that he wanted to raise awareness to the way our society has become so used to these absolute tragedies that we often here " such a shame" and we move on throughout our day. So he repeats the line many times in an almost lackadaisical way to show the way we arent impacted by these horrific events and have become numb to most things. ❤❤❤ I hope I was able to help out with at least one thing someone else hasn't already mentioned. You're a gem to watch, can't wait for you to explore his bands the big push, Trick The Fox and his unbelievable collaborations with his female counterpart and close friend Chinchilla, together they are magical and their music will touch your soul. Romain Axisa, Sam Tomkins, Garron, Viktus, (viktus raps with Ren but is also the one who often wears the pig mask) Rens journey down the Rabbit hole is never ending and the further you go the more magical it becomes ❤❤❤

One thing I've noticed about reacters is their lack of historical depth when addressing Ren's techniques. Western classical operatic music had an overture for each act (operas were (and are) dividend into acts, like in a play). The overtures were not necessarily a preview of a given act's musical themes, but instead were designed to bring the audience into the appropriate mood(s) for the upcoming story/action. These overtures were, frequently, at first, seemingly unrelated to the following story. If you will notice, Ren introduces each story - each "act" ("Jenny," "Screech," "Violet") - with an introductory melodic line, in this case also mostly (though not entirely, if one pays attention to Ren's composition) seemingly unrelated to the angst/violence/story we are about to experience. Not only does Ren riff off of classical guitar picking techniques, he also riffs off of classical compositional techniques. This man is not a joke. Kudos to him for employing centuries-old stuff in modern music, much like, I would like to say, the inimitable George Gershwin did with his "Rhapsody in Blue," when he merged and melded modern (1920's) jazz with a classical orchestra. Yes, I'm putting Ren in that same illustrious company.

He's a rare all round performer, it's art plain & simple. The thing with Ren Gill is you just never know what you're going to get from track to track. Now every time I watch that part I become deeply emotional; it encapsulates the deep sadness of the entire trilogy in a few seconds without saying a single word. I also love how you let the 2nd half of V's Tale run without pausing, too. It's so easy to get engrossed in Ren's videos, almost to the point of hypnosis 😆 As a cinematographer, you couldn't have picked a better study subject! All the best from the UK.

I've seen too many reactions to this trilogy to count. Your's was so fun to watch. Thank you. I knew you'd love it. I think you would enjoy Ren and Sam's very first video together, too. It was Children of the Moon. It was their smallest budget and not a one-take, but still so well done.

After seeing your reaction to these, I know you are going to love Money Game 1 and 3. I would highly recommend you listen to Ren's 1M subscribers speech. Even if you don't do a reaction to it, it will show you the amazing heart that Ren has and why we love and appreciate him so much.

i havent started the video yet, im SO excited to see your reaction !!! ok, HERE WE GOOOOOOOOOOOOOO...unpauses........ and im back :) that made me emotional watching it wash over you. i cant help but get emotional on some level watching his art. if you really love the one shot video, he is the man. i recommend animal flow and the hunger, power, to see another side. then theres more but, i think you should see that side next... animal flow is fun. his money game series is phenomenal as well. god i cant tell you how excited i am for you! you appreciate the brilliance of the videography as well, which he works HARD to achieve. hes got very orwellian influences in alot of his art as well... youll catch it in animal flow, but thats also what the pig references are about as weell as how doctors butchered him. its all very symbolic and NOTHING is on accident. welcome to the RENegages Sir! its a joy to have you

Same here. Will add edit when watched lol Edit. Just one thing... He did Jenny and Screech in 2019. They were 14. Poor Violet died in two zero zero five. Fourteen years earlier. Some brains to pull that off... Plus all the other stuff. Big love from Spain

Yeah this is a masterpiece with many hidden Easter eggs that gives you more clues about the story, I’ve done a playlist on my YT about all the main characters in these tales with my theories about how it’s all connected. That’s the beauty of this masterpiece it makes you look deep into it and promotes conversation

Did you notice that when he dropped the bomb about the twins it was the first time in the trilogy that he did not touch his guitar? What an effective way to get our attention. ❤😃💜
@Cinematic_Jesse8 ай бұрын
He utilizes every instrument that is available to him to tell a great story....this includes him dropping that Guitar and using his vocals to grab the viewer! Genius 🤯
@Sunshiningme-jj9of8 ай бұрын
@@Cinematic_Jesse I think when he started to reach to strum the guitar and then hesitated and chose not to it showed a realization that what had happened was beyond stunning and the guitar could add no more to the amplitude of the situation, and in fact may have taken some of the gravity of what had happened away. The use of the guitar may even have detracted from the horror and sorrow that should fully envelope the viewer. I hope I explained my perspective well enough for you to understand my meaning. Any thoughts? 🤔💜

Great reaction! Cant wait to see what’s next! This is a story of generational trauma. Violet was physically/sexually abused by her father who most likely did the same to the mother. She left home and ended up in a relationship with Stevie who physically/verbally/sexually abused her. She passed away, he would have been sent down and the kids separated at birth. Screech killed his sister and then he died a street away. They were born side by side the same day and died “side by side” the same day. 🖤

In reference to Screech's reaction during the phone call: I think that Ren expanded on it in an interview or something. Screech's girlfriend was cheating on him with Patrick. That's why Patrick wasn't home and his girlfriend told him she was busy in middle of the night instead of like "oh it's so late and I'm sleeping". Screech just made the connection during the phone call, prompting his angry response.
@Cinematic_Jesse8 ай бұрын
Yeah I picked up on that the second time around of me watching. The vicious cycle came around full circle and claimed everyone. If you think about, starting all over with Patrick, Screechs girl....so many Jenny's, Screechs and Violets out there.
