I am not a professional, nor an expert but to me it seems like Carlsen is sometimes playing some risky, openings, some risky chess and this is why Carlsen has so many more wins than other top players this year, but this approach also comes with more losses and probably lower rating performance. I really respect it, Carlsens games are getting even more interesting imo.

As opposed to more draws. Say two people play 20 games (not with each other). Person A draws 10 games, person B wins 10 and loses 10. They will both have a score of 10 (assuming draws are 0.5 pts, wins are 1 pt, and losses are 0 pts), but player B will have both more wins and more losses. @@K4inan

I think, he is playing risky because he knows he is the best and wants to have fun. He doesn't need to prove his skill. He can get away with more than an average GM. He is past the need to play with a stress. He didn't play World Championship simply because it was boring him. That is one of the biggest factors why the rating drop IMO. If he would compete and win, I doubt his rating would dip bellow 2800. But then he wouldn't play chess the way he wants it. I still would like to see him go against Ding in classical format though. That would be a game! But then again - him deciding not to play, just further pushes him into the mythic player category, rating drop or not.

Magnus just seems actively tired of Chess at this point. And who can blame him? What does he have left to prove? Most already consider him the best ever. At this point, he's just solidifying his lead. The next person to topple him is 10-50 years away. And that is if he quits today. Magnus seems to be wanting a break.

12:18 You can't play Bd3 without first seeing Rd5+ Ke6 defends the d3 bishop as after Rxd3, Rxg6+ and if Kxg6 it's stalemate and for any other move black grabs the f6 bishop and retains material equality. Rd5+ is what made me think Bd3 was impossible, and I'd imagine it's the most likely reason Magnus didn't play the move either. In fact, I suspect Kd6 was played to prepare Bd3 and Re3 was played to prevent it.

It's intriguing to note the fluctuating nature of Carlsen's Elo ratings over the years. From 2010 to 2013, he experiences a notable ascent, going from 2809 to 2875. However, the subsequent years saw a gradual decline, reaching a surprising low of 2807 (even lower than his 2010 rating!). Nonetheless, he attains another peak at 2889 in 2019. The rollercoaster continues as he faces another descent, hitting his lowest rating in 2023. While this pattern may not serve as a reliable predictor, it reflects the ebb and flow nature of motivation and the potential for improvement plateaus. Perhaps in the upcoming years, he will stage a comeback, aiming to finally realize the elusive 2900 rating he has been aspiring to achieve.

Players (IM/GM) have defeated Magnus on a random match. It has happened but defeating him in an important match like World championship is a totally different thing. Amazing that after Ra7, the black king still has d7. What a player Magnus is, he apparently gets away with illegal moves!

#suggestion Svetozar Gligorić vs Tigran Petrosian. You can choose Belgrade, Zagreb or LA. In your earlier videos you have stated it is is one of your favorite players of all time and you are ignoring me for years, while I'm suggesting this games to you. It's not about nationality it's about the beauty of the game. All the best P. S. Check out how many times I have suggested it.
