Tiger lotus can definitely go crazy. I have one in a 60 breeder with African butterfly fish and it has completely taken over. There are tons of lily pads about 5 inches in diameter and it has sent off about 5 runners that are already starting to send up lily pads of their own. I use an inert substrate (gravel capped in sand) and only give it root tabs. It works great for my tank since the African butterfly fish love having surface coverage to sit under. The only thing to watch out for is that if you let them grow crazy their roots can choke out the roots of other plants.
@The_Crucible7147 ай бұрын
Here’s a tip if you want it to bloom; try feeding it with a walnut-sized, 50/50 mixture of clay-based soil and regular gardener’s bone meal wrapped in a single layer of cheese cloth and tied at the top. Water lilies are very heavy feeders and if fed thusly it will start to bloom like mad. If it doesn’t bloom increase the lighting and it will if the plant is mature. I’ve brought lilies to bloom using this method (given to me at Waterford Water Gardens) both outdoors and in aquariums.
@Jack-gh3vs7 ай бұрын
@@The_Crucible714 While I’d love for it to bloom in my tank, I’m not gonna specifically try to make it bloom, but I do appreciate the advice. There isn’t very much room for a bloom since I have a very tight fitting lid (big time jumpers) and there’s only about an inch of open space between the surface and lid, so the flower would be cramped. I’m not in desperate need of a bloom since I have a ton of lilies in my backyard koi pond that bloom regularly. I might even harvest a runner or two off my tiger lotus and try it in my pond to see how it does. Not sure if it would survive the Colorado winters, but it could be an interesting summer plant.

Hey MD. I hope you are having a great time in the USA at Aquashella. Please consider getting a better light on the saltwater tank the one you have is a bare minimum option for growing corals.💯🙏🏽👍🏽💙
@The_Crucible7147 ай бұрын
More light would allow that reef tank to really bloom & take off! Not a huge fan of hybrid Clownfish (usually bred from Perculas or Maroons) though those are cute. Try getting a carpeting Sebaceous Anemone if you want to achieve symbiosis. Sometimes I think fish which are too hybridized lose their natural instincts. Have you seen any Harlequin Shrimp in any of the shops? Prepare to have your mind 🤯!

Hi MD -- big fan, love all your tanks. You might want to check in about the legality of keeping medaka ricefish outdoors though. I am not british so, tbh, I'm not totally sure what's going on with you all (being an island maybe makes invasive species more of a risk to your endemic ones?) but I was surprised to learn from Practical Fishkeeping editorial recently that Medaka pose a risk of being invasive in your climate and the license they are imported under is limited keeping them indoors as a result. The PFK issue was April 2024 -- this mention was at the 'tailpiece' at the end, if you're looking for a jumping-off point to learn more or double check specifically which law etc they're talking about

I believe that Timmy thinks the fog is something blocking him from coming to the top of the water. He would swim right up to it and then turn around and go back to the bottom and look around and try it in a different spot. And he didn't break the surface not once. Have you ever seen him come up through the fog and break the surface of the water? It might be that he can't come up to the rock under the heat lamp when he needs to, or get a gulp of air when needed. It's just an observation that I made and thought I would share it. Just in case. 😊
