Saw the game live. Nb2 was brilliant, a positional masterstroke by Ding Liren! Gukesh would later say that he underestimated that move. What a thrilling start to this World Chess Championship! Applauding from the Philippines! And excellent recap, Sagar!😊🙏💕👏

I have been saying this from the beginning. Many people were taking ding too easy as if gukesh will demolish him and grab the title. But i knew ding has been using this mental breakdown as a strategy and will win games. He did the same against nepo. Nevertheless there are 13 more games to go. May the best player win.

I don't really know if you all agree with me , but I don't think gukesh gave his best in his first match , i mean he would have totally played differently if he was against magnus carlsen or hikaru or fabiano but the thing is he just played some passive moves thinking it won't harm him in any way and that's the reason he lost

Because it often leads to passive positions for black with a greater probability of loss or draw than a black win. e5 and c5 responses to 1. e4 lead to much more solid positions with higher chances of a win for the black side at the highest level.

Gukesh's timing for f5 was no-good if he thought Qe1 for Qd3 as for showing all the weakness and almost failed(if there was Bxe6 then 100%, but still 80% or more) to use the positional advantage his time control and positional dominance was nice before that Ding's idea of Nb2 was magical but time loss+bad move must become to be a suffer after all if this kind of loss happens again Gukesh should be more discreet after this I think and always wish for two playing the best they can!
