Sometimes both players know the opening through move 20 and sometimes they’re both out of prep 10. This game was definitely more on the complex side most games are quite games where white is trying to find a small advantage. Every game varies I think reducing the time by any more will reduce the quality of play and that shouldn’t happen for a world championship match
@kimaboeАй бұрын
@@tomatoisnotafruit5670 Magnus thinks chess should have shorter time controls because it is one potential route to make it more popular, but the issue he has with classical isn't with the time spent playing, but the time spent preparing for an outcome that is neither interesting or fun. He doesn't enjoy spending two months getting ready to play a match where his opponent is trying not to lose rather than win. One way to force the action is to make the games shorter, but from everything I've heard him say on the topic, he is fine with spending 2 hrs thinking over the board, as long as what he's looking at is interesting. That is why he wants freestyle/960 to become popular for the top players, because its *new*, not because it is *fast*.
@kimaboeАй бұрын
@@tomatoisnotafruit5670 I may be a bit biased from having had the Norwegian broadcasts, but it is possible to make entertaining shows from classical games even if they last a long time. :D What helps in a match situation is skin in the game, so for Norwegians we were able to root for Magnus, and we now have India vs China, so there are certainly eyeballs to capture. It'll be interesting to see. From the numbers I'm seeing across youtube, it might be playing out that way, and it is making me excited for both this match but also for the upcoming Rapid/Blitz championship. I counted like 3m views across FIDE, Chesscom, Chessbase India, Take Take Take etc. and people here are saying they watched multiple recaps. That is significantly more than the last match.

He probably saw a lot of those missed opportunities in earlier matches but was "no if even I can see that's a mistake my opponent would surely be able to see that as well" and basically talked himself out of taking these opportunities and even today you could see him struggling with his confidence but then something just snapped inside his head and he basically said "ah f*ck it" he just started trusting his intuition again which lead to this incredible victory. I think Magnus will have an entire career as a commentator if he wants to. I know he is streaming himself a lot, but that's mainly for the lols. This demonstrates he can do serious, too, and I am pretty sure we'll see him regularly now commenting on high profile games. I mean he was born to do that, he could never retire from chess entirely, and now without any pressure and time consuming preparations for championships, he can just relax and pour his infinite chess knowledge over all of us. He was always humble an generally just a great human being, it's also wonderful how well he and Nepo can go along. It's a great period for chess, propelled to new levels thanks to the internet and the more I think about it, the move by Magnus to vacate his title voluntarily was genius and a boon for the game! Instead of hogging the throne for another couple of years until he finally loses out of fatigue he made room for others and WCs as well as the candidates tournament became so much more exciting. We still see Magnus' other games when he casually crushes Titled Tuesday for example but we also get to see him commenting and I am all for it!

1:59 I thought she was gonna introduce Levy as 'known Magnus Milker' but swallowed her words seeing Magnus' unamused face. 😂😂

People, Ding deserves an Oscar for his show! 😂😂😂 Never underestimate the Chinese, they can fool the world. Now, Gukesh knows this is a real match and he needs to fight. Ding, great chess player and even greater actor 😂

Great recap! I've also followed the game in the app and it works really well. Great job!

I watch Hikaru and chess 24 back and forth live commentate the game, then watched Hikaru live stream his recap, then watched Danya recap on chess 24, then watched Hikaru recap again on KZbin. Now Magnus and Levy on TTT. The day can’t be anymore productive😞😞
