Last night, someone groped me and I spoke up about it. And I wanted to share my story with you.

The fact that security and cameras in such a high profile area as the Strip didn't deter that a**hole just goes to show you how emboldened men are to attack women in public spaces. They almost never face repercussions for such things and when they do it's a slap on the wrist. I hope some vindication and justice is done for you Kelli, you didn't deserve that, nobody does!

THIS!!! One time I was in a similar situation and the police said, and I quote, "You don't want to press charges, do you?" I was so upset that I just lowered my head and shook it no. Women are programmed to be compliant and are so easily deterred from pressing charges because “it’s no big deal.” He ruined his vacation. He got drunk and decided he was entitled to grope a stranger. As someone who went through the legal process which resulted in my abuser getting 2 lifetime sentences plus 20 years, you are doing the absolute best thing given the circumstances. Some men will never learn to correct their bad behavior. Period. And in those cases, having them removed from society is the best case scenario not just for them, but for potential other victims. That was my driving force pushing me through my trial; I'm doing this so he can't hurt anyone else. Kelli, you are strong and your feelings are more than valid. Use your support system to get through this tough chapter, so you can move on with your life with you head held high.

Most women I know have spent their lives dealing with SA and worse, and have dealt with the exact same responses you have, "it's your fault" "you invited it" "take it as a conpliment" "it didn't happen". That sort of assault has happened to me many times. I was a young women in the 80s and 90s. At that time there were not many cameras and the attitude toward women speaking up about things like this was not good. I am so glad you are pressing charges against that jerk. It sends the message that women are done putting up with these belittling moves men make on women. You are not little, Kelli. Good for you. Please wear your bright colors. I went decades wearing only white and dark blue because of this kind of thing. I also kept my hair short.

Hold this man accountable because clearly he was bold enough to do this in front of hundreds of other people, who knows what else he is capable of. I’m 44 now, and I for the first time bought velvet pants at Christmas. I realized how I blamed myself when my high school boyfriend’s uncle groped me for over an hour when I was 16 because I wore a very soft velvet skirt to Christmas dinner. I was frozen in fear and never even thought back then that I should have gone to the police, because it was “my fault”. (Even though this older man stalked me at my work place). Please never feel like it’s not worth it, you may have changed a worse outcome for some girl in the future because you called him out. Second comment! This also jogged a memory from the one time my husband and I went to vegas. After a night at the slots at the Mirage we were heading back to our room. We observed this very clearly INSANELY intoxicated female being carried by a man towards the elevators (barely walking). There was always security there at night like checking for your room key and such. My husband right before security whispered to me “should we go up to her and make sure she’s alright?” (This was after we both agreed he was giving us bad vibes). I said “security is right there if they don’t do anything then yeah we should.” Luckily security stopped him and was like “What’s your name?” To the guy. Asked him if he had a booking with the hotel because they were about to look it up. He said no and he was “just trying to get this girl to her room.” (I don’t even know if he knew her name) and the male security guard was like “yeah we will take it from here.” And the female guard grabbed the woman to take her up to her room. In my experience security takes things VERY seriously down there and afterwards my husband and I were happy she got up to her room safely and also didn’t want to think about that man’s possible motives. It sucks that you think the worst but it’s so hard not to when assaults happen all the time.

I had a similar situation happen to myself. Oddly enough I was at the mirage as well. I've lived in Vegas for nearly 20 years now and in my 20s I partied a lot. But I almost always could hold my own. Never got to the point of not being able to walk or to the point of being pretty much unresponsive. But there was one time it happened. I had gone out the night before and then spent all day at Bare pool. Was fine the entire day, but then when I went to stand up at the end of the day after laying on one of the beds for sometim, my legs just gave out and I couldn't walk. I remember my friends trying to help me walk but then things just went real fuzzy. The next thing I sort of remember is sitting down and being in a wheelchair and hearing some commotion going on around me. That's the last thing I remember. I apparently had started to throw up while in the wheelchair, but the commotion that I recall hearing ended up being this guy that was trying to take me up to his room. I had been talking to him n hanging out with him earlier in the day but I didn't know him. Security was there and I think he was trying to get me away from them, saying he knew me n was going to take me up to his room. Another one of my friends just so happened to be in the vicinity, not one of the ones that had originally tried to walk me out but could not, since they were too intoxicated themselves. I honestly don't know where they went after they got me a wheelchair, I guess I was left alone with security. But anyway this other friend sees what's happening and comes in and just swoops me up out of the wheelchair to get me away from this guy and carries me back to the room we had and puts me to bed. I wake up a few hours later so confused about what had happened and he told me what happened. So if it wasn't for him this random guy could have potentially taken me up to his room to do whatever with. Not sure how security didn't question my friend and how he knew me, maybe they knew who he was since he was an independent vip host so he knew people in pretty much every hotel. But yah my friend saved me from some creep who was probably trying to take advantage of me. And to this day I'm not sure what happened as to why suddenly I just couldn't function. But good looking out for others when you know they can't look out for themselves, glad security escorted her back to her room alone and didn't allow him to come with.

@@KelliMarissaVlogs I live in a city where things are handled very differently. One might find understanding in the ER, but it’s unlikely with the police. I’ve reported to cops who are unaware of the correct laws regarding SA and the procedure by which reports are made. I’ve been victim-blamed and mis-quoted and scrutinized and yelled at by a cop here. When I was 17, in my home state, I picked up my 18yo friend from a house party and took her to the ER…the cops then stood in the waiting room asking me the wildest questions about her previous sexual experiences, relationship status, her child … while evidence was collected from her body … I didn’t know all the words then, I didn’t know how to SAY what was wrong with them, but it felt so messed up and I was getting so upset at them … that was around 2012. When you said to us, what you THOUGHT the cop was about to say to you, my mind went back to that hospital and I thought “YUP” - and then the reality of your recent experience was so literally the opposite. I needed to hear that. YOU needed to hear that. I needed to hear you say you heard that. We all need to hear that, directly to ourselves and spoken to our peers and we need to believe that’s what we will hear, to have any chance that WHEN (not IF) we are assaulted, we will have a scrap of reason to believe we deserve to file a report. It’s important to speak about what going wrong, to hear what needs to be changed. It’s important to speak about what goes right, to know what the expectation OUGHT to be, and to build the belief that we WILL be believed and taken seriously.

My friend was sexually assaulted in an elevator and when she filed a police report, the cops asked what she might’ve done to provoke the attacker. It made me so sick to hear that and I’m glad that wasn’t your experience with security, though none of this should’ve happened in the first place. I had almost the same exact thing happen to me at a train station. I asked an older lady nearby if she saw it and she said "no, and I wouldn't go looking for trouble either". I ran after him and yelled at him in front of a bunch of people and he said, "you've got tickets on yourself, don't you". Men will never understand the daily fear that we women must walk through the world in. We are always on the alert for predators, jerks, perverts. It happens across the lifespan, from preschool with our precious female babies all the way even into retirement homes. If all of the assaulted women were empowered and made aware that they CAN press charges, half of the world's population would be in jail where they belong. Or at least half of the disgusting men (not the good ones -- there are some out there!).

This showed up in my home page, I’ve never seen your channel before but I just want to say. I’m so proud of you!!! Woman to woman hearing your story reminds me of something almost identical that happened in my city but there was no cameras and nobody around me when I scream and pointed even looked like they cared at all. In fact I got looked at like I was insane. Not that I expected random strangers to like chase him or anything but a “hey are you okay?” Or “I’m so sorry.” would have given me a bit more hope for humanity. If something like this happened in the workplace and the woman goes to HR to report it and HR’s response is “boys will be boys”, the woman has every right to go higher. She needs to make sure to document that she went to HR and that was the response. If the higher ups don’t doing anything, she has every right to go to law enforcement and seek legal action not only against the man but the company as well. A lot of companies are starting to take that stuff seriously. Some because they realize that everyone should feel safe in the workplace… some because they don’t want the potential legal consequences. Unfortunately, sexual assault goes underreported because it has always been dismissed and the blame put on the victim. It is never the victim’s fault. You did the right thing.

A BIG HUG AND THANK YOU! Being a senior, I suffered a rape by my husband! Couldn't do a thing about way back then! Also I was riding my 10 speed bike down a main street as teen when some guy in a car slapped my rear! Needless to say it caused me to crash as it really startled me. Oh there have been countless times of forced other things! So Thank you for all of us that couldn't do anything about our assaults! I can guarantee that if I could of reported it l, I would have. 😢 They are scars we carry for ever! When I was younger (I'm 48 now), I used to think that being fat would protect me from SA. It did not. I've been groped, had disgusting comments made about my chest, and had something put in my drink. When I was a teenager back in the 70s my mother warned me I was going to experience unwanted attention from men and I’d need to learn how to handle it. Well that was crap, what she should have said was don’t allow any man to make you feel violated or uncomfortable. I won’t list how many times men have inappropriately touched, propositioned and been vulgar to me during my lifetime. I am almost 60 now and I was just complaining to my husband that this month alone I have been catcalled two different times while I was out alone making me feel really uncomfortable and unsafe. You absolutely did the right thing making this guy accountable for his actions, how will men learn boundaries otherwise. I am glad you did, thank you for being so brave ❤

I'm glad that you stood up for yourself! I'm older than you (early 50s) and I don't have a female friend that hasn't been groped inappropriately at some point. We were supposed to laugh it off as "no big deal." It's not acceptable behavior and, thankfully, the world has finally caught up to that way of thinking.
