Rudy Gobert is a top 5 defensive player in league history. Luka would have hit that shot on any defensive center. Gobert gets hate because people think hes goofy ane because his offense isnt good. But his defense, especially given how much the league has changed in the last 20 years, is special. The league has actively made defense harder over the past 2 decades. Gobert isnt allowed to defend the same way Mutumbo or Bill Russell did. And he still manages to be a top 5 defense pretty much by himself.

I wouldn't say contract wise... like the Timberwolves value him for what he's worth, but McDaniels never gets the same attention as others on the team, and yet, he's like a B or B+ caliber player. He's solid. He's a starter on a team that has the deepest lineup in the west probably. That right there kind of says something...

People who barely watched Wolves basketball would that the Wolves lost spacing because KAT was a pick and pop center, but in reality his spacing worked like a wing, spotting up from the corners or wings, barely had any pick and pops with Ant. Rudy would usually be the one setting the picks. So what they lost in spacing with KAT I think was easily regained in Donte. What they will miss is a backup 5 when Rudy sits or is out and a level of cohesiveness, this team lost a lot of chemistry.

Rudy spends more time out by the FT/Top of the key area setting screens, & only rim camps when he's expecting a shot to go up... The casuals think we'll have bad spacing... DDV is a better shooter than KAT & Randle is a better shooter than Slo-Mo...

I'm having doubts on Randle with Gobert. The paint will be looking clogged most of the time on offense. They box out Gobert, Randle misses his fadeaway shot and there goes an opportunity. Unless he learns to throw lobs at Gobert, Chris Finch would have to find a miracle how to make these two work. Gobert with KAT pairing was easier, because KAT has all 3 levels of scoring, but most importantly he could space the floor, giving Gobert room to operate in the paint by himself. Randle loves paint too much, when he asks for the ball to bully his way inside the paint, I am just wondering what is Rudy going to be doing.
@humblekind418911 күн бұрын
Great analysis
@Eastra311 күн бұрын
The moment Rudy's man come to double Julius, he'll throw the lob. Julius draws so many double's, because he makes tough shots in his 1v1s with ease. Not many players draw more doubles than Randle, so Gobert will not have a problem getting easy buckets at all. There are many ways to create open looks (spacing), but casuals think 3 pt shooting is the only way. 3 pt shooting isn't even the best way to create spacing. When the defense has to double or over rotate, players are more open than ever, and screen setting and drawing double teams cause these things more than standing on the 3 point line. being a 3 point threat is like the 3rd or 4th best way to create open shots in an offense, and usually 3 pt shooting is the benefactor of other space creating methods more so than the other way around. Even with Steph and Klay in their prime, player movement and the many screens in their offense gave them space to utilize their gifts. You'll see how good the T-Wolves play after they get some chemistry down, and you may wonder how they are playing so good, but come back to this comment and you'll understand what I was saying.
